Today, a large number of tomato varieties are presented, which would have an exquisite and unique taste. The tomato variety Andreevsky surprise appeared relatively recently, but many have already fallen in love with it. In this article, we will consider the characteristics of the variety, the dignity and taste of the fruit, the ripening period, yield, and note the agrotechnical features.
Breeding history
Tomato variety Andreevsky surprise was bred by Siberian breeders A.A. Kamanin and V.N. The variety was listed in the State Register in 2007 and then went on sale for growing on plantations and garden plots.
Description of the variety
The culture belongs to late-ripening varieties. The bush is a representative of indeterminate plants, that is, it is an indicator that the shoot can have unlimited growth force. On average, it grows up to 1.5-2 m in height. The stem is powerful, due to its rapid growth, it is necessary to tie it to a strong support so that the bush does not fall over. 2 stepsons are formed on the bush so that the fruits ripen well.
Leaves are medium in size, dark green in color prevail. Inflorescences are formed every 2-4 leaves, they are intermediate in type. Flowers are bisexual, self-pollinated, can be pollinated by insects and wind.
The first cluster at the stem is formed with 8-9 leaves, the ripening of tomatoes begins from the lowest peduncles, gradually rising to the top of the bush.
Extra forming stepchildren must be removed.
The advantages of tomato varieties include a number of factors:
rich and full-bodied taste;
fruits are famous for their large size;
unpretentious care;
have a universal purpose;
grow well even in the northern regions;
lack of tendency to wateriness.
There are also disadvantages:
with improper care, the yield is average;
fruits may crack after full ripening;
short shelf life after collection;
intolerance to a sharp change in temperature, after frost the bushes do not leave;
tomatoes cannot be transported over long distances.
The main qualities of the fruit
Fruits are large, round, slightly flattened at the base, crimson-red in color. The weight of one fruit averages 170 g, there are also large fruits of 0.6-0.8 kg. The skin is smooth, slightly ribbed in places, firm, but fragile. The pulp is juicy, fleshy, a large number of seeds are formed in the core.
Due to the fact that the fruits are large, they are of little use for canning. Therefore, they are most often used for salads, ketchups, tomato pastes and juices.
Taste characteristics
Many gardeners note good taste in the Andreevsky surprise tomato variety. Ripe tomatoes have a characteristic tomato flavor, with a slight sweet aftertaste and almost no acidity.
The weather conditions greatly influence the taste. The more sun and warmth, the faster the tomatoes ripen and the flavor fully unfolds.
Ripening and fruiting
As mentioned earlier, the variety is late ripening. Harvesting occurs at the end of August in warm regions and at the beginning of September in the north. The ripening period is from 110 to 120 days. Fruit ripening is amicable and does not stretch.Those fruits that did not have time to ripen on the bush are removed and stored in a dry, warm and dark place until they are fully ripe.
For good fruit ripening, the top of the shoots should be pinched in August.
Yield
The yield largely depends on the agrotechnical aspects and on where exactly the tomatoes were grown. On average, up to 3.5-5 kg of tomatoes are harvested from one bush. If the tomatoes are grown in a greenhouse, are well fed, and all points of agricultural technology have been followed, then up to 8 kg can be harvested.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
Before planting the seeds, special seedling boxes are prepared. It is worth sowing seeds from the first days of March for the south, for the northern regions you can sow until March 15.
The pits should be located as follows: 2 cm each between future bushes in a row, and the rows should be spaced 4 cm apart from each other.
The room temperature should be + 25 / + 28 degrees. If the temperature is below the specified, then the growth of seedlings will slow down. This trick can be used if the seedlings start to grow too actively.
After planting the seeds, the box is covered with foil on top. It is worth spilling from a spray bottle, but do not allow large waterlogging or accumulation of water. The seedlings will sprout in about one week.
It is worth diving, provided that two strong leaves appear, the sooner this is done, the better they can take root in the new environment and germinate normally in the open field. A pick will help strengthen the root system. The procedure is repeated up to 3 times during the growth of the plant. Since the tomatoes Andreevsky surprise have unlimited growth force, during the formation of seedlings this process is slightly restrained, but so that the time of planting in the ground does not shift.
A month before planting plants in the ground, it is necessary to take them outside so that they gradually adapt to weather conditions. The seedlings are brought out to the greenhouse in early May. But landing in the ground should take place at a daily air temperature of at least +15 degrees. The exact date of planting depends on the weather conditions and the growing region.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
Before planting seedlings in the ground, you must inspect them. The stem should be thick and firm, the leaves should be dark green, and the rhizome should be strong and well developed. The plant should form one flower cluster, but the peduncles should not bloom yet.
The soil is prepared for planting in advance, it is dug up for equipping with oxygen, then moistened. The soil is not fertilized with manure before planting. It is better to treat the ground with wood ash or potassium permanganate solution. This is to remove possible harmful bacteria.
The layout should be as follows: the bushes are placed at a distance of 0.6 m from each other, for convenience, when tying, the bushes are planted in two rows. The distance between the rows is 0.4-0.5 m. It is worth remembering that it is necessary to arrange it so that the bushes do not shade each other, the leaves and branches do not intertwine. Therefore, many gardeners plant bushes in a checkerboard pattern. The depth of the fossa should not exceed 0.2 m.
It is better to prepare the stakes for the garter in advance.
Growing and care
In order for the seedlings to develop well and bear fruit, the following rules must be observed:
make a watering schedule;
feeding schedule;
the formation of bushes and the removal of unnecessary stepchildren (side shoots);
timely garter support;
maintaining the temperature in the greenhouse no more than +30 degrees.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
