The Abakan pink tomato is a very popular variety. Differs in high yields, excellent taste and good immunity to various diseases. Due to its unpretentious care, it is suitable for growing for novice gardeners.
Breeding history
The Abakansky pink variety was obtained at the Moscow-based Lance company. To register this variety, an application was submitted in 2005, and already this type of tomato was added to the State Register in 2007. In the same year, another variety was entered into the register with almost identical characteristics, but from a different company, with the name Abakansky. These varieties go hand in hand inseparably, and very often they are confused with each other, selling the Abakansky variety as Abakansky pink. But since their properties and external signs are not too different, this does not make much difference.
Description of the variety
The bushes of this plant are spreading, of medium height and are determinant, which greatly facilitates their care, since it is not necessary to monitor their height, and there is no need to carry out pinching. The foliage of this plant is green and medium in size. A tomato can grow up to 150 cm, and in a greenhouse even up to 170 cm.A lot of simple inflorescences are formed during flowering. The peduncle has an articulation.
The main qualities of the fruit
On the bushes of this type of tomato, large fruits are formed, flat-round, slightly ribbed in shape - "bull's heart", pinkish in color. With juicy, fleshy pulp with medium density. Each tomato has more than 6 seed nests. Each fruit weighs 200 g and even 500 g, rather large in volume. From 5 to 6 tomatoes are formed on one brush.
Taste characteristics
It has an excellent sweet and sour taste with a rich aroma, which allows it to be used not only fresh, but also as an ingredient for salads, as well as juices and pastes are obtained from it. The sweetness of the fruit depends on the growing climate. The more sun the plant receives, the sweeter the taste.
Ripening and fruiting
Refers to mid-season varieties. Matures in 110-115 days. This plant is annual, bears fruit for a long time period from July to September, inclusive.
Yield
A very productive variety. From 1 square meter, up to 4-5 kg of fruits are harvested. Considering the large size and weight of the tomatoes, this is not surprising.
The timing of planting seedlings and planting in the ground
First, they are engaged in the preparation of seeds somewhere in the late winter - early spring. Then the seeds are planted in special trays with peat, this happens in March. After the plant has the first large leaf, and it gains enough strength to grow in open ground or in a greenhouse, it is transplanted into the soil. This happens in May.
The plant grows from seed to seedling in 55-60 days.
Growing tomato seedlings is an extremely important process, because it largely depends on whether the gardener can harvest at all. All aspects must be taken into account, from seedbed preparation to planting in the ground.
Landing scheme
When planting seedlings in the ground, you should adhere to the scheme of 2-3 plants per 1 square meter.
It bears fruit best in the presence of a greenhouse, although this variety takes root well in the open field, it is recommended, at least at the beginning, when the plants have not yet gained all their strength, to cover them.
Growing and care
Since the plant is spreading, it needs to be molded. So that there is good aeration and there are no conditions for the appearance of diseases.
And because of the large weight of the fruit and rather big growth, it is recommended to make a tomato garter.
This variety is very fond of water and therefore picky about watering. And the water should be of a certain temperature from +18 to +25 degrees.
And it is also required to carry out top dressing:
first, when the seedlings are in the ground for about 10 days, they are fed with an infusion of herbs or a solution of water and poultry droppings;
and then already during flowering and during fruiting with preparations containing phosphorus and potassium, namely: superphosphate or urea.
A plant needs different micronutrients at each stage of growth. All fertilizers can be divided into two groups: mineral and organic. Folk remedies are often used: iodine, yeast, bird droppings, eggshells.
It is important to observe the rate and period of feeding. This also applies to folk remedies and organic fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Abakan pink tomato has good resistance to many diseases. But if it is wrong to water or not to do the molding, the bush will lose its wet and aero modes and a disease such as late blight may appear. If signs of this disease are found, it is recommended to treat small areas of infection with copper sulfate at a concentration of 2%. If the area affected by the disease is extensive, then it is recommended to remove such plants in order to prevent infection of neighboring tomatoes.
Resistant to adverse weather conditions
Unstable to sudden changes in temperature. It is recommended to use a covering type of cultivation in regions with an unstable and cold climate. And also, since the foliage does not cover the bush abundantly, with the scorching sun in countries with hot weather conditions, it is required to shelter the plant from destructive rays so as not to lose the tomatoes and get a good harvest.
Growing regions
This variety is grown in various regions of the country, such as the northern and Northwestern, as well as Central and Far Eastern. In the Volga-Vyatka region, in the Caucasian and Ural territories. And in some other regions of our country. Where the climate is cool, the plants are grown in a closed type, in greenhouses. Where the climate is warm, you can plant tomatoes in open ground.
Review overview
If you look at the reviews, this variety is distinguished by a relatively low price, but at the same time with good characteristics. He has good seed germination, high productivity, unpretentiousness in the neighborhood - it grows well near cucumbers and peppers. As well as excellent taste.
The Abakan pink tomato is suitable for growing in private household plots. It has a short shelf life. But it can ripen from unripe green tomatoes to fully ripe pink ones. Unfortunately, due to its thin skin, it is not used for canning, but it is ideal for making adjika, all kinds of sauces and pastes, and is also well used for juicing and fresh as an ingredient in salads.
