Tomatoes are a favorite crop of all plant growers. Tomatoes collected from the garden differ favorably from market products, they are both more aromatic and tastier. Healthy and tasty fruits are a real decoration of a garden plot, however, they require proper agricultural technology. This article provides detailed information on how to water tomatoes for a good harvest, what tricks and folk remedies you need to know, how to feed the plants by growing them in a greenhouse or open field.

What drugs should I use?

Watering tomatoes for a good harvest is necessary along with fertilization, even if the soil has been properly prepared since autumn... Tomatoes are very capricious with regard to watering. If there is a lot of moisture, they get sick, if they dry out a little and turn yellow, the flowers and the ovary fall off. As important as water is, it alone is not enough to achieve high yields. There are certain preparations available for growing tasty and meaty tomatoes.

The first watering is carried out warm, preferably rain water. Then, two days after planting, growth stimulants are added to it, which will relieve stress from the seedlings and help it grow stronger. Such a drug can be "Fitosporin", which, in addition, will protect against fungal infections. Plants need to be processed twice a month, alternating foliar and root feeding.

The use of "Bordeaux liquid", which is used for similar purposes, gives a positive result.

Spraying is carried out on a dry, windless day in the initial growing season. The liquid can be bought ready-made in specialized stores or prepared by yourself by mixing slaked lime with copper sulfate. Also, for preventive purposes, you can use "Metranidozole", it is especially effective with the addition of brilliant green.

When watering, the water should fall under the root of the bush. It is necessary to avoid getting water on the leaves, otherwise it can lead to an outbreak of late blight. The most rational use of drip irrigation. However, even with the most accurate watering, measures are needed to prevent and combat various diseases:

  • powdery mildew;
  • late blight;
  • fusarium;
  • angular spotting.

Good results are obtained by treatment with "Trichopolom", a completely safe preparation without a waiting period, after which the washed tomatoes can be eaten immediately. The first spraying is carried out as a preventive measure shortly after planting.

In the future, it is recommended to use it throughout the season, especially in rainy summers.

To prepare the solution:

  • take 10 liters of water;
  • dissolve 20 crushed tablets;
  • insist 30 minutes.

In order to combat late blight, it is recommended to water the bushes with a solution of "Furacilin" every 14 days. The solution is prepared at the rate of 10 tablets per 8 liters of water. It is stored for a long time without losing its properties.

Further, to stimulate plant growth, accelerate vegetation processes and increase productivity, the vegetable crop is watered with a solution with the addition of saltpeter:

  • ammonia;
  • calcium;
  • potash;
  • sodium;
  • magnesium.

The use of saltpeter is a common practice for gardeners. The main thing is that when using it, the liquid does not fall on the upper part of the plant.

What folk remedies to feed?

Although it is convenient and easy to use industrial preparations, they can have a negative effect on the soil, saturate tomatoes with harmful substances. More useful will be natural safe products obtained using folk remedies.

Their advantages include the fact that:

  • natural substances are used to grow an environmentally friendly product;
  • the environment is not polluted;
  • a more lasting effect on the plant is obtained;
  • grown products do not harm humans.

The negative features of such dressings should also be noted:

  • folk remedies from natural products are absorbed slowly by plants;
  • the use of manure attracts harmful insects;
  • it is difficult to determine the required amount of such components.

As such means, gardeners prefer to use:

  • wood ash;
  • chicken droppings;
  • nettle tincture;
  • iodine;
  • serum;
  • yeast.

Also, a good option would be to use ammonia, eggshells. These simple and affordable natural products have a powerful effect when growing plants in greenhouses or outdoors.

  • The use of wood ash is characterized by a long period of validity. It protects tomatoes from fungal diseases. When ash is added, excess soil acidity is neutralized, thereby creating an environment for the reproduction of beneficial microorganisms.
  • Chicken manure contains a lot of nitrogen and phosphorus... These elements contribute to the growth of the vegetative part of plants, strengthening the leaves and stems. If you water tomatoes with such a top dressing, then due to rapid assimilation, the fruits will ripen earlier, and the yield will be greater.
  • It is useful to treat the beds with nettle tincture. It is rich in nitrogen, carbon, iron. Plants will receive potassium, calcium, magnesium from it.
  • It is necessary to spray the seedlings with iodine, it will strengthen the immune system, prevent fungal diseases, help the roots to fully assimilate the necessary substances, accelerate the ripening period and increase their yield.
  • Whey contains a large number of important elements... If you spray plants with it, they will better absorb nutrients, will be less susceptible to fungal diseases, late blight. Feeding with yeast stimulates plant growth. The roots become more developed and powerful, which has a positive effect on the vegetation of the bushes.
  • The use of ammoniarich in nitrogen, will immediately affect the development of the aboveground part of the plant.
  • Eggshell, containing a huge amount of calcium, being in the soil, slowly decomposes, gradually enriching it as a long-term reservoir. Use the crushed shell or its aqueous tincture.

The introduction of such dressings into the soil should be carried out several times throughout the season, doing this after planting the seedlings, then during the formation of the second pair of leaves and when buds appear and fruits form.

Feeding Tips

In order to grow well, each plant must be fed. And this diet should contain various fertilizers, which are applied in a timely manner, depending on the phase of crop development. With improper or insufficient feeding, tomatoes stagnate, wither, get sick, and bear little fruit. Excessiveness is also harmful. Indeed, as a result of excessive feeding, violent tops will grow, and the fruits will have to wait for a long time, but late blight will not linger.

  • Top dressing used in summer to achieve high yields. During the preparation of the soil for planting young bushes, mineral fertilizers with a high content of nitrogen, phosphorus and organic matter are introduced into it.
  • Nitrogen - used to increase the vegetative mass of the plant, the growth of leaves, stems, stepsons. It should be remembered that too vigorous plant growth can delay the development and maturation of tomatoes. A complex of phosphorus and potassium will give a low level of nitrates.
  • Organic... The use of organic dressings will increase the taste of fruits and yield.
  • During planting, potash fertilizers are applied in a small amount, and after two weeks, when the seedlings adapt, mixtures with nitrogen, phosphorus with potassium, calcium, magnesium are added. Magnesium nitrate contains large amounts of magnesium and nitrogen. When using it, there is no need to additionally use nitrogen compounds.

According to the condition of the plants, the timing of re-feeding is determined. Having planted seedlings, for a greater effect, it is better to treat the bushes with complex fertilizers. The introduction of organic matter must be limited. During the entry of plants into the phase of active growth, before flowering, two dressings are carried out with preparations containing phosphorus, for the development of the root system and nitrogen to increase the mass of stems and leaves.

With the appearance of color, it is necessary to apply potassium-phosphorus fertilizers twice, this will help the formation of the ovary of berries. The lack of these elements will lead to deterioration of pollination and shedding of barren flowers. The need for nitrogen fertilizers is judged by the state of the seedlings, limiting them or canceling them altogether.

During the period of fruit ovary, phosphorus and potassium become the basis of tomato nutrition. They must be entered twice, or even three times.... You can use ready-made fertilizers or prepare them from a mixture of potassium sulfate solution - 1 spoon per bucket of water and 0.5 kg of liquid manure, or replace this mixture with nitroammophos by dissolving 1 teaspoon of it in a bucket of water. During this period, the introduction of organic matter is recommended.

Stop feeding a couple of weeks before harvesting. Such a diet for tomatoes will make them resistant to diseases, will help form fleshy, sweet fruits in July and significantly increase yields.
