The TV turns on and off by itself: causes and elimination of the problem

None of the equipment is insured against breakdowns. And even a relatively new TV (but, alas, already out of the warranty period) can start to behave strangely. For example, turn on and off on your own. There may be several reasons for this, respectively, and there is more than one way to eliminate them.

Common Causes

If the TV turns on and / or off by itself, this may be a typical software-related error of modern technology. Such a malfunction can only be excluded with CRT TVs (although, albeit rarely, this happens to them). Before running to the service center, you should try to figure out the problem yourself.

Attention! Any diagnosis requires caution and basic safety precautions. Disconnect the equipment from the mains.

There are two most common reasons the TV turns off on its own.

  • Incorrect device setting function. There is no reception signal, so the TV turns off on its own. The owner often falls asleep while watching movies (and this is not uncommon), and the TV “thinks” that it is time to switch off. With such an incorrect setting, by the way, a visible malfunction may occur.
  • The device has a program that sets the on / off mode. But the owner of the TV either does not know about it, or has forgotten about such a setting.

Of course, these reasons alone cannot explain the malfunction. And if the new technique behaves this way, the issue will be resolved by the warranty service, but if you cannot count on free service, you need to urgently understand the problem.

Consider what should be checked.

  • You just need to look at the density of the contact between the socket and plug. If the plug is loose, it will periodically come loose from the contact, and the TV turns off. This is especially likely if it turns off as soon as the movement of households or animals around the apartment is noticeable. They create vibrations that worsen the already wobbly position of the plug in the outlet. In such a situation, the TV turns off less often at night. But at the same time, he himself does not turn on.
  • Dust accumulation. If the owners of computers and laptops carefully clean gadgets, blow them through, then TVs are often forgotten. But dust can also accumulate inside it. In most cases, the devices are of course protected by a housing with lattice openings. They are blocked from dust. But the risk of dusting still remains, albeit minimal.
  • Power supply problems... First you need to check the standby indicator. If such a detail is blinking, then it is probably the power board that is responsible. Here, either carry the TV to the service, or change the defective parts yourself.
  • Voltage surges... If the TV is used for a long time, cracks appear on its board after a while. And humidity, instability of power indicators, high temperatures lead to breakage of connections and swollen capacitors.
  • Overheat... It happens due to both unstable voltage and continuous use. LEDs, insulating winding may be damaged. In this case, the device turns off with a characteristic click.

If all this is excluded, most likely, it is the program that is "to blame"... For example, an expensive, newly purchased LG or Samsung TV began to turn on itself, and at different times. And it could be about smart settings. There is an option that the user himself did not disable the software update module, which made the device configured on its own, automatically. Or, for example, a program is installed on the TV that gives the TV a command, so it turns on itself.

You need to look for the reason yourself, and if nothing is found, then you need to call the master.

He should know how long such a malfunction has manifested itself, how long after turning off the equipment, it turns on again, what diagnostic measures the user himself has already taken.

Debugg

You need to watch the TV like any other technique.... And it should be done regularly, for example, do not allow dust to accumulate on any of its parts.

Dust has accumulated

For cleaning TV do not use alcohol and alcohol-containing products, acids, since under their influence the matrix elements will soon fail. Detergents for dishes and glasses are also not suitable for cleaning the TV. But you can sometimes use tools for monitor screens, consultants in an electrical store will tell you which of these care products are more effective.

Cleaning the TV with newspapers from dust is another "bad habit" of the owners... The paper will easily scratch the screen, and newspaper fibers may remain on the screen, which will adversely affect the clarity of the image. Soda will be the same prohibited cleaning agent. Abrasive particles will scratch the screen and cause cracks. And to wash it without the formation of streaks is almost unrealistic.

Dust must be disposed of correctly.

  • Dry cleaning should be carried out once every 3 days. This will save the TV from both dust accumulation and staining. Microfiber napkins, soft lint-free fabrics (cotton), special dry napkins for cleaning monitors will help in this.
  • After all accessible parts of the device have been cleaned, keep the TV off for 15 minutes.

Important! Do not use a spray bottle when cleaning the screen: liquid may end up in its corners and cannot be removed from there. Such cleaning is fraught with serious malfunctions later.

There are problems with the power supply circuit

A power failure may also cause the TV to turn on / off on its own. For example, the wire is broken, the socket contacts are worn out. Because of this, the technique either suddenly turns off or stops turning on altogether.

If, when the TV is on, you shake the wire or the plug, and the picture on the screen disappears, then the cause of the malfunction is precisely in the power circuit. Try plugging the TV into a different outlet (you may need an extension cord for this). So you can find a specific breakdown location, it will have to be replaced.

Voltage drops present

When one of the phases of the mains is overloaded, the following happens: the voltage of one phase sags, the voltage of others rises. Emergency modes are also not excluded, when the zero extension of the transformer breaks, or when the phase hits the neutral wire. If the house falls into a lowered phase, then in the worst case, electrical appliances in the apartments may turn off. They will turn on as soon as the potential is leveled.

But increased voltage is more dangerous. The standard network parameters for LED TVs and plasma devices is 180-250 V. If this figure is exceeded, the electronics suffers from overload, and the likelihood of burnout of boards increases rapidly. And this can also cause the TV to turn off suddenly.

The situation can be corrected by installing an outlet voltage relay. It can be installed throughout the apartment, which means that all electrical appliances will be protected from power surges. You can also install a voltage stabilizer, but such a device takes up a lot of space and looks bulky in the interior.

Prevention measures

There are simple rules that are easy to follow, but they will help the TV to serve for a long time and without malfunctions.

  1. Must be turn off the TV at least after 6 hours of continuous operation.
  2. It is important to monitor the brightness of the image. If the brightness is lowered, the backlight lamp needs to be replaced.
  3. The screen must be protected from shock and damage. If there are small children in the house, it is better to mount the TV on the wall, and not to put it on a curbstone or other low furniture. And it is also safe for children - alas, TV falls are not rare. Of course, do not forget about cleaning the TV - dust should not accumulate on it.
  4. Often you don't need to turn the device on and off either.... If you turn on the TV and change your mind to watch it, the shutdown should happen no earlier than 15 seconds later.
  5. Timely follows update the software.
  6. Immediately after purchase, you need to check the settings system. It can theoretically get lost, but if this happened with a new TV, it needs to be sent for repair or replacement.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the same young children can play with the remote control, get into the settings and accidentally program the TV to turn on and off at a certain interval. Parents do not even know about this reason for the malfunction, they remove the device from the wall, take it for repair. And the solution to the problem is much simpler.
