Few people like to find cockroaches at home. But if this happens, you need to start fighting these pests as soon as possible. They multiply very quickly and are able to multiply to the scale of the colony in the shortest possible time. Special chemicals are used to kill insects; dichlorvos has been considered the most effective of them for several decades.

Operating principle

Dichlorvos is an aerosolized insecticide. It is used to kill cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes and other pests. Modern types of dichlorvos differ significantly from previous drugs. The only thing that makes them related to the Soviet poison is only the name.

The dichlorvos used by our grandparents included dimethyldichlorovinyl phosphate. This drug of the organophosphate group is highly toxic. It is dangerous not only for annoying insects, but also for pets and people. However, in Soviet times, in addition to this dichlorvos, no other remedy could cope with cockroaches - this can simply did not have a single competitor.

Today, the main active ingredient of dichlorvos is synthetic pyrethroids:

  • esfenvalerate;
  • lambda cyhalothrin;
  • cypermethrin;
  • piperonyl butoxide
  • permethrin;
  • tau fluvalinate;
  • vaportrin;
  • tefluthrin;
  • allethrin.

Usually, several of the listed components are used in one composition at once, this explains the extremely high efficiency of aerosols. The fact is that cockroaches have the ability to develop resistance to insecticides. Therefore, when using the simplest means, the level of protection is significantly reduced. Preparations based on several poisons have a more advanced chemical structure, so the chances of survival in insects are much less.

Modern versions of dichlorvos are produced practically odorless, while they effectively fight against cockroaches of various types. Toxins in aerosols have a paralytic effect on the insect organism.

After penetration into the body of a cockroach, irreversible processes are triggered in its nervous system, they cause paralysis and a quick death of the barbel.

To destroy pests in the room, you should ensure that the active components of dichlorvos enter the insect's body as much as possible.

To do this, you need to spray an aerosol in places where parasites accumulate. In this case, drops of poison enter the cockroach's respiratory tract and have a toxic effect. Insecticides quickly spread throughout the body and lead to death in a few minutes.

After spraying, some of the poisonous substances fall on the chitinous cover of the barbel. The insecticide has the ability to penetrate this protective armor of the parasite and cause paralysis.

Besides, when baiting insects in an apartment, small particles settle on upholstered furniture, walls, and also on carpets and are stored there for a long time. When a cockroach runs on a surface, the poison clings to its legs and antennae. Returning to the place of hibernation, the cockroach begins to cleanse itself with its jaws - as a result, the toxin enters its digestive system and leads to the inevitable death of the insect.

Modern means allow you to destroy all pests at once. If a large family of parasites lives in the room, then spraying should be carried out in several stages.

Important. Any aerosols are capable of destroying only adults. They do not have any negative effect on the laid eggs, since they cannot penetrate through their shell. In order to destroy insects completely, a few days after the first treatment, a second one must be carried out, otherwise the hatched offspring will begin to re-breed a new population.

Popular remedies

The best modern dichlorvos are "Varan", "Neo" and "Super". They all have a number of advantages:

  • have a pleasant smell;
  • do not harm pets and people;
  • do not pollute furniture;
  • have a low concentration of toxic substances.

"Neo"

The most toxic dichlorvos, with the maximum concentration of insecticidal components. Has the ability to destroy a large population at a time. but when using it, you should adhere to basic safety rules.

"Varan"

After spraying, such dichlorvos creates a thinnest film on the surface, preventing the barbel to penetrate the treated areas. Such a remedy acts instantly and after a few minutes it kills unpleasant "neighbors".

The effectiveness of the product lasts for two weeks, all this time it helps to get rid of household pests.

"Super"

Dichlorvos "Super" has almost the same characteristics as the others. However, this aerosol product is potentially unsafe for humans and pets. When used in a residential area, leave the treated room for several hours.

Other

Dichlorvos of other species are also highly effective against cockroaches.

Global. Effective aerosol from a German manufacturer. The peak of action is a couple of hours after treatment, the maximum result becomes noticeable after two to three weeks.

Dohlos. It is included in the top of the most effective insecticides, acts on a similar principle, affects the nervous system of the cockroach and leads to its rapid death.

Raptor. It has a paralyzing effect, after contact with the active components of dichlorvos, the barbel dies, but before that it manages to infect its relatives.

"Storm". The poison retains all its toxic properties for a month. The first result after use is noticeable after a few days.

"Clean house". Another powerful drug against insect pests.

Allows you to cope with uninvited guests, when their number is small, often acts as an auxiliary insecticide.

Instructions for use

To destroy cockroaches with dichlorvos, you need to be able to use it correctly. Only if all the rules are followed will the processing be safe for households and pets.

  • Before you start fighting cockroaches, you should remove all pets and children from the room, and then prepare the room.
  • If there is an aquarium or terrarium in the room, cover it with glass and turn off the compressor - this will prevent the penetration of poisons with air masses from the room into the water.
  • All windows and doors are closed, and you need to make sure there are no cracks. If they are available, they need to be plugged with cotton wool or foam rubber.
  • All food items are removed from the bedside tables. It is advisable to take food out to the balcony. If this is not possible, place them in a double plastic bag.
  • All household appliances - refrigerator, freezer, electric stove - are moved away from the wall. The same goes for sofas, armchairs and wardrobes. If the room has carpets on the floor or walls, they must be removed and rolled up.
  • Children's toys, especially soft toys, absorb odors well. Like food, they must be placed on the balcony or put in double bags.
  • After the room is prepared, you can start directly processing.To do this, shake the can with dichlorvos well, remove the lid from it and direct the stream so that the composition covers the maximum area. Special attention should be paid to skirting boards. In fact, when using dichlorvos, a simple rule works: "The more surfaces in the room are treated, the more insects will be destroyed."
  • On average, one cylinder is enough to process a room of 15 sq. m. To process an entire apartment or private house, you will need 4-5 cans of dichlorvos.
  • After all surfaces have been treated, it is necessary to leave the treated room for several hours. This rule should be observed even if such recommendations are not contained in the instruction manual.
  • When you return home, you should open the windows and doors. It is very important to wet clean and wash all surfaces with soapy water so that insecticides do not come into contact with people, animals and do not get on food.

Security measures

Despite the fact that modern dichlorvos are not as toxic as those produced during the Soviet era, they are still unsafe for people. Therefore, during the processing of premises, precautions must be taken.

  • The treatment of the premises is carried out in clothes that cover the arms, legs and most of the body. This will minimize skin contact with insecticides.
  • Separate respiratory protection should be used. A respirator is the ideal solution, but if one is not available, a gauze and cotton bandage will do. If you start to have a sore throat or have a sharp, unpleasant taste in your mouth, your airway needs protection.
  • If other symptoms of deterioration appear (redness, shortness of breath and rash), you should also stop fighting intruders. In this case, you need to go out into the air as soon as possible, if possible, rinse your mouth, nose and eyes with warm water.

It is important to consider that certain insecticides in dichlorvos can be dangerous to dogs, cats, guinea pigs and other pets. It is advisable to remove them from the premises for at least a week after processing.

It is necessary to ensure that pets do not eat dead cockroaches. This can lead to the most adverse effects on the health of the pet. If you notice that soon after treatment the pet is shaking or that he starts to salivate profusely, you should bring him to the veterinarian as soon as possible, since he has signs of toxic damage from dichlorvos components.

Cockroaches love to get inside household appliances. However, in no case should aerosols be sprayed into the technical openings of laptops, TVs, system units, microwave ovens and other devices.

Review overview

Dichlorvos has established itself as an effective means of fighting unwanted insects. To the pluses, users consider the following advantages of these products:

  • availability - you can buy dichlorvos in every hardware store at affordable prices;
  • speed of action - the agent neutralizes insects in a few hours, and then fights against barbel for at least a week;
  • the ability to choose an odorless or flavored aerosol;
  • does not leave stains on furniture and wall claddings, floors and ceilings;
  • can be used in residential and industrial premises;
  • destroys not only cockroaches, but also bugs, flies, mosquitoes, ants and other insects.

Of the shortcomings, only the toxicity of the product is noted, the need to use PPE and leave the room for a while. In general, this method of killing insects is one of the most effective. When used correctly, dichlorvos allows you to remove cockroaches quickly, easily and at minimal cost.
