With a stretch ceiling, problems often arise if you use incandescent (and even halogen) lamps. What a way out of the situation can be will be discussed in this article.

Features, advantages and disadvantages

Stretch ceilings are very sensitive to heat. But it is still necessary to establish full-fledged lighting, and LED light sources help in this.

Their main advantages are as follows:

  • minimum energy consumption (many times less than that of traditional lamps);

  • guaranteed work for several years;

  • environmental and sanitary safety during production, transportation and use;

  • lack of ultraviolet radiation.

As such, LED lamps have no drawbacks, you just need to take into account some of their features.

So, these lamps are more expensive than traditional ones, but this difference is fully justified by energy savings. By choosing LEDs with a ripple factor of 1-5%, you eliminate damage to your eyes. The price of the lamps and lamps themselves practically does not depend on the tone of their glow.

Installation of LED lamps emphasizes the modernity of a person, his ability to follow the latest trends.

Views

Most often, indoor and outdoor LED lamps are distinguished.

  • Majority external lamps differ in that the light bulb is outside the ceiling, protruding above it at a distance. But external lighting devices also include those in which the light source is located under the canvas itself, separated from it only by a screen.
  • An example internal LED luminaires (in which the bulb is retracted into the housing) are ultra-thin ceiling recessed diode models. They are not intended for general, but for local lighting, since they give a narrow beam of light.
  • Hinged it is better to use lamps if the ceiling is high enough; compositions of several such devices suspended at different heights are very attractive.
  • If you need to vary the brightness of the lighting, you need to purchase dimmable lamps. There is no way to distinguish them from ordinary ones in appearance, so before buying, be sure to find out if a particular dimmer is compatible with LEDs.
  • Open up wide design possibilities led strip... These are flexible designs, complemented by LEDs located in series at the same distance. The tape should be selected according to the number of diodes per meter of length, according to their colors.
  • There are also linear luminairesthat can resemble a tube in shape. Replacement of lamps in them is not provided, since the housing is non-separable - this is important to prevent corrosion. With the help of a linear lamp, it is possible to organize a unique illumination of rooms decorated in a loft style.

Some linear light sources are equipped with motion sensors. Dual lighting fixtures differ from ordinary ones only in the number of lamps. Among such devices there are very extraordinary designs.

Location

Knowing what type of fixture you need is very important. But a competent and eye-safe organization of lighting also implies the correct arrangement of lamps. Place LED light sources on stretch ceilings symmetrically. Then it will not turn out that one part of the room is flooded with light, and the other is darkened.

To avoid glare in the form of reflections from the walls, the luminaire should not be placed closer than 80 cm from them, and sometimes furniture requires a greater distance.

The optimal distance between lighting fixtures is determined by their size. With a diameter of 8-10 cm, it should be at least a meter, and lamps with a diameter of 13 cm must be removed by 1.6 meters. This proportion will provide both sufficient light intensity and a harmonious look.

It is important that the lamp and the stretch ceiling do not come into direct contact.

For this purpose, it is possible to fix the luminaire before the cover, to the base ceiling, or prefer a suspended structure. After tensioning the canvas, the installation sites of the luminaires are equipped with thermal rings. There should be no film inside the thermal ring, otherwise it will not transmit light.

Sometimes they do this: they put strong substrates on the ceiling, the installation locations of which are marked on the film. Later, you only need to screw the spots onto the supporting elements.

When installing a luminaire for decorative lighting, they usually use drywall niches or expanded polystyrene cornices. Drywall is environmentally friendly, niches made of it are noticeably stronger than cornices, last longer, and make it possible to conduct hidden wiring.

Forms

A rational choice of a luminaire also implies taking into account its shape and configuration. But neither round, nor square, nor triangular lighting fixtures should contain crystal pendants and forged parts. Against the background of a stretch ceiling, they categorically do not look.

Compact luminaires do their job better. If attention is paid to the light, and not to the lamp itself, it means that it has blended quite organically into the interior.

You can put a plate-shaped chandelier on a stretch ceiling, but only together with a reliable protective plate and a large bowl. Inside, there should be as few details as possible so that their reflection does not spoil the appearance.

Colors

LED luminaires can produce light in a wide variety of colors and shades. This means that they are suitable for:

  • work cabinet;

  • bedrooms;

  • kitchens;

  • any other room.

Think carefully about this point so that the light matches the interior. When using stretch ceilings containing several levels, attractive colored installations can be formed. The scope for experimentation is enormous, but basic care in handling color will not hurt anyone.

The slightest excess of red tones in the bedroom will only worsen well-being, ruin sleep, and even provoke nightmares. Do not get carried away with purple shades either: they spoil the mood, create heavy and gloomy thoughts.

As for the color of the lamps themselves, then the choice is not limited by anything other than your own preferences and the style of the room. If you want - put frosted glass, if you want - transparent or reflective. It is not difficult to find a more sophisticated solution with miniature crystal shades, decorated with gold or silver edging.

A LED lamp with a flickering effect will give you a romantic mood, it will help you enjoy the "starry sky" right in the house.

Instrument requirements

Stretch ceilings are attractive and beautiful, but even LED lamps can be installed on them only if technical requirements are met.

Devices with a round base are considered optimal, which harm the canvas less than others. The rim around the reinforcing ring and the compactness of the lighting fixture are also important.

It is better to choose a reflector in a luminaire mounted on a stretch ceiling with a directed light flux than with a diffused one.

An important parameter is the so-called color temperature. If it is equal to 2700 K, then there will be a warm white light, when it is increased to 4200 K it becomes natural and a little less pleasant. Luminaires with a color temperature of 6400 K give off a cool white light that many people are uncomfortable with.Be sure to ask the store to turn on the lamp and check if it creates any discomfort to the eyes.

Natural white light is optimal for the kitchen. In it, the perception of colors and shades is not distorted, and you will be able to assess the condition of products and dishes as accurately as possible.

Which one is better to choose?

If there is a stretch ceiling in the room, it is not recommended to use lamps more powerful than 50 watts (otherwise the canvas may melt).

Do not buy lighting fixtures with shades pointing upwards - this will fade the ceiling.

Decorative cups with sharp parts and cutting edges are also unacceptable. Ask the seller immediately if the case of the device will overheat during prolonged operation.

When buying a bathroom lamp, take only devices with the highest levels of electrical safety. Find out about moisture resistance (you need an electrical device of class IP65 or higher). Please note that such waterproof light sources are significantly more expensive than conventional chandeliers. Choosing a luminaire for the kitchen, you can slightly reduce the level of protection against water penetration.

Beautiful interiors

No one will be able to dispute the role of lighting devices in the formation of a favorable atmosphere. But that is why it is very important to make the right choice. Designers have no doubt that it is best to use LED spotlights. They will help emphasize the zoning of both the room and the studio apartment.

LED luminaires are capable of creating a very powerful luminous flux directed to a specific location, while shading the rest of the space. Most often they are used in rooms decorated in the following style:

  • modern;

  • high tech;

  • techno.

But if you wish, it is not difficult to apply an LED lamp in a classic room or combine it with an ethnic style.

The stretch ceiling does not tolerate bulky crystal pendants and forged parts. Small structures of this kind can be used, but with great care. After all, they will divert attention from the main function of the lamp, which should create a certain atmosphere without attracting undue attention to itself.

The transformation of the interior with the help of lighting can be very significant, because the LED strip can shine in different colors. The transition from one to the other is very easy and simple. A particularly good impression is created if the luminaires are built-in behind a high stretch ceiling. First, the backlight is built in, and only after preparing it, they begin the installation of the ceiling.

If the room is already divided into zones using a partition, screens, by varying the lighting, you can create your own mood in each part.

In bedrooms, it is advisable to focus maximum light on the dressing table in front of the mirror, or at the door. LED lights in a children's room should illuminate the most of the play area.

It is important to focus on pictures and cabinets, on mirrors and niches. An interesting trend in recent years is the creation of a so-called "floating" ceiling using LED strip.

If you are unsure of your abilities in designing light in a room, it is better to turn to a professional designer.

In the living room or hallway, the lighting should be bright, but in the rest of the rooms, a slightly dim light is desirable.

If the room is made in the spirit of a chalet, Provence or country, a lamp in the form of one or more candelabra will be the best choice.

The aged metal surface (with the effects of patina, gilding or silvering) will only enhance the overall impression.

An apartment decorated in modern styles (such as minimalism, hi-tech or modern) requires a different approach, it would be more correct to choose a lighting fixture with a strict, laconic design in the form of a cube, sphere, or ring.

A pendant lamp with a hanging decor (placed above the foot of a sofa or bed) will look good in bedrooms.

For a children's room, it is appropriate to use a lighting device in the form of either a simple ball, or decorated with leaves and flowers.

A very beautiful solution for the living room is a central chandelier, around which smaller lamps are located at some distance.
