Loft style lamps
Loft-style lamps are a tribute to the future, they differ in non-standard design and are suitable for modern interiors. Accessories are installed in residential premises, creative offices and creative clusters, country houses, and their species diversity will allow any design project to come true.
Distinctive features
This modern style emerged at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Architects and designers drew attention to a large number of unused or abandoned industrial facilities and set out to convert them into housing, workshops, offices, and creative spaces. The desire to reorganize, modernize factories and factories allows you to make the most of the existing premises and get an original design.
High ceilings, rough, raw materials, the use of partitions instead of walls, a large amount of free space are the hallmarks of lofts.
Like any other style, it applies to all components of the interior.: finishing materials, furniture and accessories. This also applies to lamps. Light is used to divide the room into functional areas. The style does not imply the use of one large chandelier in the center of the room, but requires the placement of a large number of fixtures on the walls, ceiling, floor, tables or shelves.
The lamps are made of metal, the cold gleam of which is intended to evoke associations with the factories and factories from which the loft originates. The style is based on playing with contrasts, avoiding colorful decor, because the lamps are made in a single color scheme and have a smooth surface.
A loft studio, as a rule, has more windows that are not covered with curtains, so accessories with LEDs that give soft, warm light are an excellent solution.
Massiveness, deliberate rudeness is one of the features of such lamps. They are suspended from the ceiling with chains, placed on a metal rod, if we are talking about floor models. Lampshades and shades are decorated in neutral colors - black, gray, white. Ordinary bulbs without a shade can be used to provide spot lighting in parts of the room.
Aluminum is widely used for the manufacture of lamps. Due to the flexibility of the material, it can be shaped into any shape, while the accessory will be resistant to impacts and external influences. Nightlights have an anti-corrosion coating, so they are not afraid of direct ingress of liquid, high humidity. Durable plastic is also used as a material.
The shape of the lamp depends solely on the author's design idea.
Minimalistic models based on geometric lines and sharp angles are versatile and can be easily integrated into the interior. There are lamps that imitate hanging candlesticks or accessories in the form of spotlights, similar to those that are installed in factories, workshops, and industrial facilities. Handicrafts can resemble pipes, be associated with instruments in research laboratories, or represent a large sphere.
Varieties of lamps
The division of luminaires into types occurs, depending on their destination. Based on this, the models differ in size, mounting methods and dimensions. To decorate the space, it is better to use several types of lamps: in this case, the interior will be as full as possible.
Types of lamps for lofts:
- Ceiling... Ordinary chandeliers are not suitable for loft interiors and look disharmonious in such a room. Models are made from untreated wood, metal, glass and plastic. If a basic lighting fixture is located in the center of the room, it must have large dimensions and be massive.
- Suspended... A kind of ceiling lamps. They are distinguished by greater functionality, simplicity and ease of installation. To accommodate accessories, tires located on the ceiling are used, separate devices and bundles of light bulbs depart from them.
The design allows you to organize spot lighting, change the direction of the rays. Accessories are placed in one or more rows.
- Wall mounted... Mobile models are matched to the design of the ceiling lamps. As a rule, you can change the angle of inclination of products, rotate them to highlight individual zones and objects in rooms. It will also illuminate the far corners of the room. Products are often stylized to resemble old instruments and attributes of the industrialization era.
- Floor standing... Floor lamps are another element of the lighting system in loft interiors, designed to highlight individual zones. Models are installed in large rooms and are equipped with deliberately large parts. They are distinguished by curved legs, futuristic shapes. Designer lamps are made from production parts, spotlights, street lamps.
- Tabletop... Required when arranging study rooms, libraries. The light is distributed in a directional way so that it is convenient for a person to write, read or draw. The massive base will make the accessories as stable as possible; it can be combined with a frame made of separate metal rods, which will look contrasting when combined with a massive base. Lamps are available with or without shades, miniature and larger.
There are also basic rules for placing different types of lamps.
Spotlights are evenly placed over the entire area of the room, the main chandelier should be located away from other accessories, since it is the semantic center of the entire system. For kitchens, lamps on tires are used to avoid dark areas, which is important when cooking. When arranging the interior, you cannot overdo it with the intensity of the placement of accessories, otherwise the space will be overloaded.
Selection Tips
Lighting fixtures not only complement the loft-style interior, but are also an integral part of it. Based on this, the selection of accessories is approached with great care. Attention is paid to characteristics such as the shape and design of products, the materials used, the type of lamps. The frame is made of metal, wood, glass, which are used both individually and combined with each other. They must be shockproof, withstand liquid ingress and temperature extremes.
What to consider when buying a loft-style lamp:
- Functionality is one of the selection criteria. Accessories should illuminate the room as much as possible, be responsible for accentuating individual interior items. A study or kitchen requires more light than a sleeping area.
- Multilevel luminaires allow you to create a multidimensional volumetric space and visually expand it. In this case, the accessories are located on different surfaces. They can be of the same design or differ from each other to get the atmosphere of artificial chaos.
- Small lamps will be lost in high-ceilinged rooms and large studio apartments. Therefore, preference should be given to larger, massive models and combine them in order to fill the free space as fully as possible.
- The design of the luminaires refers to the interiors of old factories and plants. Metal rods, chains, bolts, grilles will look advantageous.
When arranging a room, different types of lamps are combined. This does not require adherence to special rules, since the style allows you to combine different tones, shapes and materials. It is easiest to choose laconic accessories with a minimum of decor, therefore it is important not to overdo it with decorations and take as a basis one or two elements that will be repeated in the design of all lamps.
Convenient lighting systems are equipped with motion sensors and turn on automatically when a person approaches.
Examples in the interior
- A distinctive feature of loft interiors is the installation of a large number of lamps. Several dozen light bulbs hanging from the ceiling will illuminate the room well, give it a sense of roughness, simplicity and leave room for imagination. This room design option is one of the simplest and at the same time it looks dynamic and progressive. It is used to equip a kitchen, hall or living room.
- Taking the same ordinary light bulbs as a basis, you can supplement them with a frame of individual metal or wooden beams that form patterns around the light source. "Lampshade" does not affect the degree of illumination and plays a purely decorative role. Its color is selected taking into account the design of the room: it can be matched to the finish or contrast with it. Models can be hung from the ceiling or mounted to the wall.
- The spotlights located in the living area transform the room into an expensive apartment, at the same time evoking associations with the set and the space inside the factory. The light is efficiently diffused and evenly distributed throughout the room thanks to its high ceilings and large area. Black monochromatic spotlights are considered universal. Models look advantageous with leather upholstered furniture, tables and pedestals made of stone and metal.
- Lamps enclosed in glass or plastic spheres evenly distribute the luminous flux, serve as a synthesis of smooth shapes and strict simplicity, referring to the design of industrial facilities. Let's say the option when the circle is flattened at the edge, has an elongated shape. Accessories are built into ceilings, panels or placed on wooden or metal beams. The option looks advantageous when such lamps are located at different heights.
- As a support, pipes can be used, located in any way, for example, in the form of a heart, a polygon or an asymmetric figure. The frame is painted in copper, black, silver, covered with anti-corrosion impregnations. Accessories are mounted on the wall, any number of bulbs can be placed on them. The picture will be complemented by decorative screws, adjusters, linings that increase the resemblance to real pipes.
