There are three main types of luminaire design:

  • Embedded... Such models do not need to be installed, as they are intended for suspended ceilings. It is enough to place such lamps in a special cell in the ceiling panel;
  • Overhead... Luminaires are mounted in the ceiling or walls using self-tapping screws and screws. They can vary in size, often reaching cumbersome scales.
  • On a stand. This category includes floor and table lamps. In their design, they necessarily have a stand and often a lampshade.

High-end and conventional lighting fixtures can also be categorized by type of placement.

Ceiling models can be laconic or, conversely, represent exclusive options with large-scale cascade structures.

Wall lamps are the easiest to install, as they must have special holes for screws or nails.

There are combination options that can be mounted both to the ceiling and to the walls.

Popular models of Italian lamps:

  • chandeliers - models suspended from the ceiling. They usually consist of several lamps or candlesticks. Hang on chains or laces of different lengths;
  • sconce are a lamp holder attached to the wall;
  • floor lamps - lamps on stands, which are most often covered with a lampshade.

Styles

Like all interior items, lighting fixtures can be made taking into account different stylistic features.

Classic direction it is distinguished by sophistication of forms, luxurious decor and often large size. Their design uses complex frame structures, forged and carved details, and shades and lampshades can be made of elite materials. For classic lamps, metals and crystal are most often chosen.

Indoors, they are always noticeable, do not merge with the setting, but on the contrary, can become its key accent.

Modern stylistic trends are less luxurious than the classical ones, however, they are often amazing.For example, high tech assumes an avant-garde design and the obligatory use of materials such as plastic and glass. Often, these lighting fixtures resemble art objects and conceptual installations.

Direction modern includes an abundance of metal details, complex geometric shapes and weaves in design. Style minimalism the most laconic, as it does not involve unnecessary details, complex designs and rich color variations.

Types of light sources

By the number of light sources, Italian products can be divided into the following types:

  • Plafoniers... These are overhead lighting fixtures, the essence of which is to place one or more lamps under one shade.
  • Point... In the design of such products there are independent holders for each individual lamp, and their total number can be anything, depending on the design.

Italian manufacturers use all the technological possibilities available in the industry, therefore all types of light sources are suitable for their products.

  • Incandescent lamps - some of the easiest to use and cheapest. Despite the ban on their use in Europe, in Russia they are allowed and are suitable for Italian lighting fixtures.
  • Energy saving or fluorescent lamps are becoming more and more popular, as they save electricity, serve for a long time and at the same time generate a lot of light. Among the disadvantages are the high price and the presence of mercury inside.
  • The safest, most durable, economical, but at the same time the most expensive are LED lamp... Depending on the color temperature of the diodes, there are products of the main types of the thermal spectrum.

Appointment

It is important to choose fixtures that provide good, even lighting, sufficient for document work. With their help, you can emphasize the severity of the room and the interior, or vice versa, make the atmosphere more comfortable and relaxed.

Household products create coziness, illuminate dark places in the interior, and complete the design idea. For each room, you can choose your suitable model. So, for the bathroom, shades that completely cover the lamps and ensure safety will be appropriate. For children's and bedrooms, you should choose an option that gently diffuses the light, and in the necessary places, enhance the lighting with a floor lamp or wall model.

Also, all lighting devices can be divided into general-purpose models, local lighting sources and decorative lights.

Materials (edit)

Metal is most often used as a frame, for example, copper, bronze, brass. There are also models made of wood, which are especially relevant in country style, and plaster. Plafonds and lampshades are made of glass, plastic, fabric and paper.

Murano glass is especially relevant for Italy, as it is one of the national visiting cards.

Crystal details, crystals, pearl beads, different types of glass, expensive fabrics and metals, elite wood are used as decor. The frames are decorated with forged details, carving and molding, and lampshades and lampshades are decorated with drawings and embroidery.

  • Futuristic and hi-tech. Modern materials and restrained colors have been chosen for the lamps. This style is present in the catalogs Artemide, Axo Light, Barovier & Toso, Brand Van Egmond, Moooi, Vistosi;
  • Minimalistic with an original and laconic design. Such lamps can be found in the brands De Majo Illuminazione, Euroluce Lampadari, Il Paralume Marina, Italamp, Masiero, Patrizia Garganti;

How to choose?

When buying a lamp, you need to consider the size of the room. The height of the ceilings directly affects the preferred model. If they are low, then the suspended ceiling chandelier will interfere and the risk of damage will increase. In such a room, built-in models, small shades, wall and floor lamps will be appropriate.

In a small room, you can hang or put a lamp with a voluminous lampshade. This technique visually makes the space larger. In a large room, several large lighting devices will be appropriate so that there are no dark corners.

It should take into account not only the size of the room, but also its purpose.

For the kitchen and most often the bedroom, several sources are needed: the main and point sources above the work areas or resting place, reading. The living room can also be zoned using different types of lamps, the design of which can be catchy and bright.

The choice is also influenced by which side the room is located on - sunny or shady.

In the first case, the lamp is used only with the onset of darkness, so in a small room you can only do with floor lamps in the necessary areas. If the side is shady, then the room has to be lit more often. In this case, it is more appropriate to purchase several sources.

How to care?

Regardless of the type of lighting device, it is necessary to periodically clean it from dust with a brush-broom or napkin.

The crystal chandelier can be cleaned with a glass cleaner on a lint-free cloth or a special glove. To do this, it is not necessary to remove every detail; it is enough to climb to it using a chair or a ladder. As a general care, the crystal parts must be removed and soaked. For chandeliers on high ceilings, you can use special aerosols.

The same gentle care is required for glass models, including Murano glass. You should be most careful with products with a matte surface. If streaks remain on it, it is best to limit yourself to just rinsing under water.

The easiest lamps to clean are plastic shades and lampshades. They can be soaked in warm soapy water or be limited to wiping with a damp cloth.

Fabric options should be wiped with a dust brush, napkin or special rollers with an adhesive surface as often as possible. In some cases, you can wipe these lampshades and lampshades with a damp brush or vacuum using a special soft nozzle.

It is enough to wipe the wooden frame of the chandelier with a damp cloth and then dry. For metal, it is best to limit yourself to dry cleaning.
