Beet variety Odnorostkovaya has been known since 1976. It was bred from the Bordeaux 237 variety at the All-Russian Research Institute of Selection and Seed Growing of Vegetable Crops, located in the Odintsovo District of the Moscow Region. For more than 40 years, this variety has been popular among gardeners, because its roots have excellent taste, are ideal for long storage and are resistant to various diseases.

Description of the variety

One-sprout beet belongs to table varieties. The characteristic feature of root crops is reflected in the varietal name - this is a single-seeded (one-sprout) crop. This means that one plant always grows from one seed, therefore, the culture does not need to thin out the beds. Root crops are characterized by high keeping quality and cold resistance. The variety is also quite resistant to stemming (flowering).

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and root crops

The single-sprout beet variety has a fairly powerful leaf outlet. Leaves are bright green with burgundy veins. The root system is not very strong, does not go deep into the soil.

Root crops are round and round-flat in shape, reaching a length of 16-18 cm and a diameter of 4-7 cm. The weight of the fruit is 140-180 g. The skin is smooth, colored in dark cherry color. The fruits are leveled, have a beautiful presentation.

Purpose and taste of tubers

Beet root crops One-sprout have juicy tender flesh of maroon color. It is dense and homogeneous, does not contain rings. The variety is characterized by excellent taste and high content of betaine and sugars. It is ideal both for fresh consumption and for culinary processing and canning. Root crops have an excellent presentation and are excellent for winter storage, keeping quality is 95-99% at an optimum temperature of +2 degrees.

Maturation

This variety is mid-season in terms of ripening. The period from germination to harvest is 80-130 days. Due to the low immersion in the ground, the roots are easily pulled out during harvesting.

Yield

One-sprout beet belongs to high-yielding varieties. The average yield is 8-10 kg / m2. The variety is suitable for growing bunch products. Two crops of one-sprout beet can be grown in one summer.

Growing and care

This variety is easy to grow. Seeds are sown in open ground in early May (the ground should be warmed up to +8 degrees), after soaking them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The soil requires light and non-acidic, and the place is sunny and calm. It is recommended to plant seed material of one-sprout beet to a depth of 2-2.5 cm. The planting pattern of 30x10 cm should be observed.

As already noted, this variety does not need sprout thinning. It is necessary not to forget about timely watering. Top dressing is carried out when a rosette of 4 true leaves appears on the plant. First, nitrogen fertilizers are applied, and the next time - potassium-phosphorus fertilizers, you can also apply complex dressings.

Beetroot tolerates cold snaps, therefore it is widely grown in the open field. When planting beets, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, choose a suitable place, prepare the beds, and do pre-sowing seed treatment.

Thinning is one of the most important agricultural techniques in beet growing. This event allows you to leave the most hardy plants in the garden, guarantees each of them the necessary nutrition, a sufficient amount of light and increases the yield.
Watering beets is an important agrotechnical process at any stage of root crop formation. If you observe the frequency and volume of water application, you can achieve intensive growth, increasing yields. In different growing seasons, the specificity of irrigation, water requirements differ, which must be taken into account in the growing process.

Disease and pest resistance

The one-sprout beet has good immunity and is resistant to the most common fungal diseases of the crop, such as cercospora and phomosis. But for the purpose of prevention, it is necessary to spray the plants with Bordeaux liquid, soapy water with the addition of ash.

Of the pests that spoil this variety, you can find the beet fly, aphids, shtitonosku, bear. It is very important to carefully examine the plants, regularly remove weeds and process the beets for prophylaxis with biological products or a solution of onion peels. In case of pest infestation, modern insecticides should be used.

Beetroot is a crop that is prone to a wide variety of diseases. Most of them can be successfully dealt with if the necessary measures are taken in a timely manner. Different beet diseases manifest themselves in different ways. Due to some ailments, the leaves turn yellow, from others the foliage becomes covered with noticeable spots, the fruits deteriorate.
To avoid problems with storing root crops, they must be properly prepared immediately after harvesting the site. The dug beets must be immediately cleaned of dry soil and dried. In order for the beets to lie down until spring, they need to be stored in the correct conditions.
