To make the garden look beautiful and the trees bear fruit well, they need special care. To facilitate the work of the gardener, wood cutters (loppers) were invented. With their help, young seedlings are formed, dry and diseased branches are removed from adult trees. The woodcutter copes with overgrowth that cannot be removed with pruners.

Peculiarities

With the invention of delimbers, the work of gardeners has become much easier. Previously, small shoots were removed with pruners (garden shears), and thick branches were sawed with a hacksaw. It was not easy to work with thorny bushes or to remove branches at a height of several meters.

Now, wood cutters, which can be called modified reinforced pruners, cope with similar tasks. They remove undergrowth up to 5 cm thick.

According to the principle of operation, they are divided into three types: mechanical, electrical, gasoline.

When choosing a lopper, you should decide what types of work you will most often have to deal with. If the garden is large with tall trees, it is better to choose electric or gasoline tools. For small, undersized gardens, mechanical pruners are fine.

Mechanical loppers represent a whole group of tools of various modifications. To put them into action, some physical effort is required. More expensive models that require little effort include electric and gasoline tools.

Double wishbone

It is a type of mechanical lopper that works according to the jaw clamping method. It has handle lengths from 35 to 95 cm.

To prune branches, you need to create a certain effort and use both hands. Since the handles are not long enough, the tool can be used to cut undersized young trees or low bushy plantings.

The length of the handles is quite enough for working with thorny shrubs, without risking being wounded by sharp branches.

Telescopic

One of the varieties of a mechanical wood cutter is a telescopic tool with a handle that can be extended to the required distance like a telescope. This makes it possible to work at a considerable height.

Trimming is done with a flat blade, which drives a special gear. The blades have anti-friction, anti-corrosion and Teflon coating. The weight of the tool is about one and a half kilograms.

Rod

The VKSh s / sh rod cutter can have a fixed or telescopic handle with a length of one and a half to four meters. It makes it possible to work with tall trees.

To cut it is necessary to install the working unit in the right place and press the lever.

If the model is equipped with a drive that transmits force to the knives, less physical effort will be required to complete the job... In addition, thicker branches can be cut. Sometimes the saw and fruit collector attachments are included with the rod delimbers.

Bypass

Sometimes it is necessary to remove not only dry branches. Corrective pruning is necessary to form a young tree. It is carried out with the help of a bypass wood cutter, which cuts, and does not “grind” the living branch.

When using the tool, the upper sharpened blade should be set so that it is directed towards the branch to be cut.

When pressed with force, the blade will begin to slide along the lower knife, which serves as a stop.

With an anvil

The upper sharpened blade is made in a standard classic shape, and the lower one has an extended plane resembling an anvil. The lower part is endowed with a clearance for the immersion of the upper blade.

The device does not press, but chops the material, so it is better to use it for dry branches.

Ratchet mechanism

It is a great addition to many mechanical models. It allows you to increase the pressure on the branch by the method of repeated squeezing. In this way, extra thick and strong branches are removed, regardless of whether they are dry or fresh.

Ratchet loppers can be supplied with a 4-meter handle and a hacksaw.

Electric

For larger garden pruning jobs, it is best to use an electric wood cutter. It looks like a barbell equipped with a miniature saw and an electric motor. A long cable plugs into an outlet.

The work is done quickly and easily, the disadvantage is the dependence on the power source and the cable length, which does not allow reaching all corners of the garden. The problem can be solved by using a cordless wood cutter, for example from Bosch.

But such models are also far from ideal. They are more expensive than cordless models and have poor performance as batteries drain quickly and need long recharging.

Petrol

The petrol lopper can do a lot of work. In many respects, it is superior to an electric tool. The woodcutter is mobile and does not need external power, it can work in the garden at any distance from home. In terms of power, it surpasses the electric analogue.

Disadvantages include maintenance, refueling, and high cost.

You will learn how to choose a wood cutter in the next video.
