Features of Fiskars Telescopic Loppers

The formation of the crown of garden trees is necessary for a good harvest, and for the site to look beautiful. Traditionally, such work is carried out using delimbers, among which the telescopic models stand out, significantly increasing the speed and safety of pruning. The article describes the features of the Fiskars telescopic loppers.

The Finnish company Fiskars traces its long history back to 1649, when a metal processing center was founded in the village of Fiskars. Since then, the company has established the production of various metal tools, including gardening ones. The company is widely known for its high-quality knives (the famous "Finnish") made of special steel grades.

It was a Finnish company that first created universal loppers in 1997, allowing for pruning of twigs and branches both at low and relatively high (up to 6 m) heights. This versatility has become possible due to the use of a telescopic handle folding mechanism. Since then, offers from other manufacturers have become available on the market, but it is Fiskars products that still remain the quality standard and "trendsetter" in this niche.

The cutting end of the tools is made of durable steel, while the handle is made of either aluminum alloy or carbon fiber, or from polyamide, thanks to which it is possible to achieve a combination of power and lightness. Another important feature of the Finnish garden tool is the use of a ratchet mechanism in the pruner, which allows you to fix the tool in the place of the planned pruning. This greatly improves the accuracy and usability.

All models have an adjustable cutting head, which allows you to control the angle of inclination of the secateurs up to 230 °. The maximum diameter of branches that can be cut with Finnish tools is 3.2 cm. The drive of the cutting part in the Finnish delimbers is hidden inside the handle, which further increases the safety of work.

The most common models at the moment are the following.

• SmartFit - the shortest and most budget telescopic model, the height is adjustable from 67 to 92 cm.

• Fiskars UP84 - allows for pruning at heights up to 4 m.

• Fiskars UP86 - differs in the use of a polyamide handle and, with a weight of just over 1 kg, allows you to cut branches at a height of 6 m.

• Fiskars PowerGear UPX82 - allows you to cut knots at a height of up to 3.5 m. Differs in the use of a unique PowerGear lift mechanism, which reduces the force required for cutting knots and branches by up to 3.5 times compared to classic models.

• Fiskars PowerGear UPX 86 - cutting height up to 6 m, PowerGear system installed.

Before starting work, you need to assemble the tool and configure it to fit your needs. To do this, you need to connect the halves of the telescopic handle, and then pass the drive cord through a special hole in the rod and pull it through it so that it connects the secateurs and the handle (which is usually orange). Although the combination of a telescopic handle and a hidden drive cord (and the use of PowerGear on some models) increases the safety of Finnish delimbers compared to cheaper counterparts, gardening is still more hazardous.The greatest threat comes from pruned branches and twigs falling from a height, which can cause serious injury, especially if it gets into the eyes.

Most owners of Fiskars loppers note their lightness, reliability and ease of use. Owners of the tool with the PowerGear system note that even women can work with such a unit, because the force required for knotting is noticeably lower than that of analogues.
