Which is the best small writing desk?

In a small apartment, the question often arises, which furniture is best to use to fit the most necessary things. Among all the variety of furnishings, most often there is a desk and arrangement of a workplace, especially if a child is growing up in a family.

It is for such cases that the production of small-sized desks has long been established. It is convenient to place them in a small room or in a children's corner.

If the desk is intended for daily long hours of work, then its dimensions should correspond to the standard parameters of the person sitting behind it.

For a toddler or teenager, it may be less. Now models are produced with adjustable height and tilt of the table top. The length of the small table should correspond to the turn of the elbows, and the width should allow at least an A4 sheet to be placed on it.

In order to make the right choice when purchasing a small desk, it is worth deciding on the age category of its owner.

As a rule, small-sized desks are purchased for arranging a working area in a children's room or where a child or teenager will be engaged in lessons.

There are various options and configurations of such furniture, the most demanded of which are:

• Bunk beds with desk on the lower tier. Due to the fact that the furniture is designed for children of primary and secondary school age, the tables are small in size, and often equipped with a folding mechanism to save space and space for games;

• Tables with pedestals and superstructure from shelves and drawers. Such a table is small in size, it can be placed against the wall or in the corner of the room. If it is equipped with a built-on rack, it can serve as a space zone separator, since the rack does not impede the penetration of light;

• Mini tables attached to the windowsill. When folded, the table top sinks into the space under the windowsill, freeing up space and access to the window. And when unfolded, you get a comfortable, well-lit workplace. At the same time, when the table is folded again, containers with pens and pencils and notebooks may remain on the windowsill.

There are also small tables intended for general family use or for interior decoration.

The first option is more practical and suitable for small spaces:

• Folding pedestal table. When folded, it takes up little space; a spacious cabinet with shelves or drawers is designed to store office supplies. If necessary, the side flap of the curbstone rises and is fixed with a support, acquiring the appearance and functions of a working surface;

• Secretaire. Folding tabletop integrated into the modular wall. A very convenient option that has been popular for more than a dozen years. Papers and books are stored on the wall shelves of the secretaire, and after the end of the work, you just have to close the cover-tabletop of the secretaire, and nothing will remind you of the working process in the living room.

The second option is purchased mainly for spacious rooms designed in a certain style:

• Office table. Sleek design with a sliding table top and miniature drawers. As a rule, it is made of noble types of wood, inlaid with carvings and is an adornment of living rooms or bedrooms in the classic style, baroque, rococo;

• Console table. A narrow long table with drawers, used for collecting correspondence, storing the necessary little things. Most often it is an addition to the furniture ensemble in the hallways.

In terms of the variety of shapes, small desks are not inferior to their dimensional counterparts. The traditional shape of the writing desk is a regular rectangle. Among the compact options, you can pick up a square table, which, when unfolded, forms a long rectangular tabletop due to the panel sliding out from below. Models of this configuration can also have a round shape, which, when unfolded, forms an oval.

Tables of non-standard shapes in futuristic design styles should be chosen very carefully, because an interesting look is not at all a guarantee of comfort. A writing desk should, first of all, be convenient for work, and this applies even more to a small table.

Small triangular desks are very convenient; it can be placed in a corner, thereby saving space and organizing a quiet workplace. But in this case, you should take care of additional lighting.

The most practical and budgetary option for small desks is the chipboard materials known as chipboard and MDF. In terms of quality, they are inferior to products made of solid timber, but they are quite suitable for children's tables and economy class interiors. In appearance, MDF furniture is not inferior to wood, and can serve for more than a dozen years.

These are durable products in a wide variety of colors, lightweight and low cost. Great for children's rooms and living rooms in a modern style. The chrome-plated legs of such tables are combined with the bright colors of a dense plastic film that covers the MDF boards, making them more durable and immune to mechanical damage.

For furniture in classic styles, which was mentioned above, it is preferable to choose options from solid wood, they look richer and, with their appearance, will give luxury and grace to the interior.

Modern furniture production is replete with options for all kinds of models and configurations, which manufacturers offer to get acquainted with on the pages of their catalogs or sites. Some unusual models can be made to order according to the selected option or your own sketch from any material and color suitable for the interior.

Several original design ideas:

• Wall-mounted drawer table. A suspended model attached to the wall at the desired level. When folded, it is a narrow wall canvas that can be decorated with a print. Folds out by opening the lid. One part of the lid becomes a support, and the other part becomes a table top. In this case, narrow shelves for office supplies remain in the wall space;

• Hanging mini table top with several compartments for office supplies and papers. A hanging shelf to match the table, where it is convenient to put textbooks and notebooks, will create the appearance of a furniture ensemble;

• Convertible table on wheels with height adjustment. Convenient in small rooms, as well as an option for mobile folding furniture. You can work behind it in any room, it does not take up much space and is easy to transport.

Whatever table configuration and model you choose for your home, do not forget that good lighting is necessary for a desk of any size. This should be especially taken into account when choosing corner options and tables with a solid superstructure of shelves standing against the wall.
