How to paint a brick wall on a balcony?

The external beauty of the walls is very important, and in many cases it is ensured by the application of paint. But the brick surface is quite difficult to paint. And painting it on balconies and loggias is even more difficult than usual.

The protective function is extremely important if the temperature and humidity conditions change quickly and unpredictably. It is equally important to improve aesthetic parameters - if they are in the first place, you need to use paint with increased decorative characteristics.

There are many options for self-decorating walls on balconies, but it is important to remember the standard rules when doing this work. Only masonry areas that have stood for at least 1 year are subject to painting. This requirement is due to the fact that the leaching must be completed first. And also within 12 months the humidity is balanced, and the brick structure completes its shrinkage.

To prevent such manifestations from happening again, it is thoroughly impregnated with antiseptic preparations. It is necessary to apply 2 or 3 layers of lime, then it will completely cover the smallest roughness.

The advantages of such a coating are:

• excellent vapor permeability;
• moderate antiseptic activity;
• no need to apply a primer.

But we must remember that whitewashing easily stains clothes and hands. If you have to use the balcony actively, this will cause a lot of trouble. In this case, different types of water-based paints should be used. It is important to understand that their quality varies dramatically. So, even if you correctly use paints based on silicate glue, they will last a maximum of 3-4 years. This is due to the low resistance to temperature extremes and moisture.

The opposite of silicate are acrylic-silicone mixtures. They retain their original qualities for an average of 12 years. The disadvantage of such mixtures is their high cost. The combination of acrylic and silicone allows vapors to pass through, it survives strong mechanical stress well. With sufficient funds, just such a paint can be chosen without any fear.

When choosing suitable paints, of course, all requirements for weather resistance can be ignored. Permeability to water vapor and resistance to water are of minimum importance. But aesthetic characteristics are much more important. The optimal choice always means taking into account the type of brick. So, it is best to apply acrylic-based paints on a white silicate array with your own hands.

• safety for human and animal health;
• high mechanical strength.

If the wall is made of ceramic bricks, you can safely use almost any coloring compound. The only exception is, perhaps, oil paints. As such, they do not meet the latest requirements. Experts consider acrylate dyes to be the best solution. They are excellent in durability, easy to clean and look elegant.

An alternative solution is clear varnish. This type of material goes well with any type of brick. Such a coating is especially good when forming an original surface design. The varnish looks great on exposed brick. But when choosing a suitable solution, it is necessary to take into account the technical characteristics of each coating, as well as consumer feedback about it.

This technique is quite compatible with the use of light, graceful paints. Work begins with the formation of randomly spaced chips at various angles. The surface of the masonry must be treated with coarse abrasive emery. Single areas must be burned out with a burner to achieve contrast. After that, light gray paint is applied, the sharp strokes of which are 1 to 2 cm long.In addition, small spots are made (they reproduce the effect of a very old brick), and finally 2 or 3 layers of acrylic varnish with a matte sheen are applied.

When choosing the best coating option, you cannot take the first paint that comes across. Only those are needed that are specifically designed for processing stone foundations. Alkyd paint is distinguished by impressive durability; there are many tones in the assortment of leading manufacturers. After application, the film adheres tightly. When it dries, there will be no bad smells.

However, it must be remembered that in the process of painting itself it will be very unpleasant to be inside the house. High cost coupled with significant expense are two more points that make it difficult to apply acrylic paint.

Acrylic paints can be chosen for the most original design projects - after all, they have a variety of tones, are consumed in small quantities. The existing range allows you to choose acrylic paints for renovation with any budget. The initial absence of bad odors allows you to work with these products without the slightest risk and inconvenience.An important limitation is that the acrylic coating is not strong enough. The most affordable varieties of it will not allow you to close small defects (in this regard, they are worse than alkyd analogues).

First of all, it is worth considering the peculiarities of the approach to the upcoming repair. It is easiest to choose a paint for a monotonous covering of the entire wall with one color. If a coating is chosen for painting bricks in one tone, and joints in another, one can proceed from both the principle of correspondence and the principle of contrast. Attention: those who are not sufficiently versed in these principles and their application should contact professional designers. And also it is necessary from the very beginning to answer the question: is it necessary to have a smooth or textured surface.

If the choice is settled on an old-fashioned oil paint, then only white dye should be used to cover external (outdoor) surfaces. Any other tonality, due to the rapid burning out of the material, will very soon lose its attractive appearance. When decorating an interior wall, this circumstance can be ignored.

All paints and varnishes containing solvents should be applied with synthetic bristle brushes. Natural fibers work best with oil paint. The roller is taken when the stencil is to be used.
