Bedroom design with an area of 20 sq. m
When choosing a design for a bedroom, many questions arise: what color scheme to use, how to arrange furniture and how to decorate the room? How to equip a modern bedroom will be discussed in this article.
Features of the layout of the room
The layout of the bedroom, like any other room, primarily depends on the preferences and requirements of the one (or those) who will live in it. Secondly, on its size and geometry.
Depending on the desires and needs, this room may have several functional areas: a sleeping place itself, a dressing room, an area with a dressing table, a reading area, a workplace. An area of 20 sq. m. is quite enough to accommodate everything you need.
The bedroom-hall, which also performs the function of receiving guests, will differ slightly from the classic version. Personal areas such as dressing rooms and dressing tables should be hidden from prying eyes. Thus, the dressing room should be separated by an opaque partition. and the dressing table can be in the dressing room.
Zoning and colors
Let's consider the issue of the distribution of functional areas and methods of their separation in more detail.
Let's start with the classic version of the bedroom, that is, the one that does not function as a living room. It is advisable to place a full dressing room in such a room. For its arrangement, you can allocate a sufficient area on which all things will fit, up to outerwear.
The dressing room can be fenced off with stationary partitions made of plasterboard, wood, glass or transparent plastic. It can also be non-stationary, consist of mobile modules on wheels and can be closed by a screen or curtain.
If the width of the room allows, then the dressing table will look harmoniously opposite the bed against the opposite wall. If you also need to place a place for reading or work, then to save free space it can be hidden in the dressing room.
Generally speaking, there is no urgent need for clear zoning in the bedroom. Rather, this is done to create an individual, memorable design. Therefore, in this case, as a rule, a sleeping place is allocated. To do this, use such techniques as:
- highlighting with color, painting of the wall and ceiling above the headboard;
- design with original lighting;
- placing the bed on a podium or under a canopy.
Non-essential pieces of furniture, such as a coffee table, work table, chairs and armchairs, should not attract attention.
If one room serves as a place for both sleeping and receiving guests, then zoning has a more practical purpose. As a rule, these two fundamentally different zones are clearly separated from each other.
Modern design techniques allow placing both a bed and a sofa in one room, while maintaining aesthetics and harmony.
One of these techniques is the partition. It can be wooden, plasterboard, fabric, etc. A good option would be a rack without a back wall. Constructions that let in light, on the one hand, delimit the room, on the other, they do not create a feeling of isolation.
An interesting option would be the arrangement of a podium bed. This not only separates its area, but also creates additional storage space. Drawers or lockers are usually placed on the podium. If you make the podium wider than the bed, it will fit a bedside table or even a dressing table, a workplace.And it is best to fence off this entire structure with a curtain.
You can divide the two zones by using different shades of the same color scheme. For example, decorate the guest room in brown, and the place to sleep in beige.
Returning to the classic version of the bedroom, we can say that for a room of 20 sq. m there are no restrictions on the use of color. This area is enough not to use only light colors to maintain a sense of spaciousness. You can use quite rich and deep colors like lilac, brown, burgundy and even black.
In this matter, of course, you should proceed from your own taste preferences. However, if there is a desire to make a design in bright or dark colors, this issue should be approached with special attention.
Notice, that:
- blue, purple and black colors have a depressing effect on the psyche;
- blue, green and brown - soothe;
- yellow, orange and red are uplifting and energizing, but can be annoying in large quantities.
Styles
The choice of style for design is limited not only by personal preferences, but also by the area of the room.
The area under consideration is 20 sq. m is enough to decorate a room in any style, even in one of the classic styles, which are characterized by fabric draperies, voluminous decor and many small items.
- Historical styles, such as classicism, colonial or romanticism will suit those who love stucco, ornate chandeliers and figurines will suit
- Ethnic styles - English, Japanese, Scandinavian, Mediterranean, Moroccan or country, all have strong characteristics. A room with this design will be original and memorable.
- The active development of interior design today has given rise to a huge number of modern styles: avant-garde, art deco, kitsch, constructivism, loft, minimalism, modern, hi-tech, fusion and eclecticism. Each of them has its own unique features: the brick walls of the loft, the unusual geometric shapes of Art Nouveau or the simplicity of minimalism.
Note that a bedroom is a place to relax, and its design in accordance with all the canons of any rich and bright style can be annoying. Therefore, mixing styles is a good solution. For example, you can take minimalism as a basis and add some standout elements to it. These can be a romantic canopy over the bed, an art deco chandelier or an eclectic mirror.
Arrangement rules
The furnishing of the bedroom depends on the availability of additional functions, such as a place to work or receive guests.
If it does not play the role of a living room, then the arrangement of furniture depends mainly on the geometry of the room. You should strive for an even distribution of functional areas.
The bed attracts the most attention, so it should be placed in the center of the room, and the rest of the furniture around the perimeter. A dressing table can be placed on one side of the window, and a work desk or comfortable reading chair on the other.
It is better to choose the most inconspicuous corner for the cabinet. Most often, this is a place near the door. In this case, he will not be conspicuous when entering. Note that the taller the cabinet and the less it contrasts with the color of the wall, the less it creates a feeling of clutter.
If the room also plays the role of a living room, then with the help of furniture it is also possible to carry out zoning without the construction of partitions.
In this case, the area for the reception of guests should be located closer to the door, and its design should attract as much attention as possible.
The sofa and the bed can be positioned in one line and put a rack between them. Note that it can be low.
If the geometry of the room allows, the sofa can be placed with its back to the bed, or, conversely, with its face. It is advisable to place a bedside table with a TV between them.
Zones can also be distinguished due to different wall, floor or ceiling finishes. Techniques such as a tiered ceiling or floor are often used.In this case, the ceiling is additionally highlighted with separate lighting or lighting around the perimeter. Also, floor coverings of different textures or colors are used.
Lighting
Usually in the bedroom, in addition to the overhead light, a separate lighting for the bed is arranged. These can be lamps on bedside tables or on the wall. They not only provide light while reading, but also create a cozy atmosphere.
With the help of additional lighting devices, you can create a unique atmosphere, highlight certain decor elements or part of the room.
So, a sleeping place or a zone of delimitation of space is decorated with decorative light. In the bedroom-living room, areas often have their own independent lighting.
Decor
The choice of decor mainly depends on the style in which the interior is decorated. However, in the bedroom, various textile solutions will be most appropriate:
- accent on curtains with drapery and ties;
- original bedspread and pillows;
- canopy.
It is also worth taking care of a decent decoration of the dressing table: an interesting vase with dried flowers or a beautiful bouquet of flowers would be an excellent solution.
The wall space above the head of the bed offers plenty of room for creativity. You can place many small family photos or a huge multi-colored panel there.
Design projects
The first interior is designed in the spirit of minimalism with a natural accent. The room is unusually divided into zones. The dressing table and wardrobe are behind the partition, and only the most necessary furniture is in the bedroom. Brown-green natural range of colors on a light background soothes and creates coziness.
The following example shows how you can decorate a bedroom in a fairly dark color. Adequate lighting of the ceiling and walls, as well as light furniture, balance the dark brown color.
Consider a bedroom in one of the modern styles. An abundance of gray and black, metal in the decor, clear lines and right angles are the characteristic features of hi-tech. The monotonous color scheme here is compensated by a niche with a red background and photographs, as well as large table lamps.
The final interior is another example of an original design solution. The decorative structure above the bed attracts all the attention. Note that in this case, a rather calm color scheme was chosen and only a few bright accents were used.
