The name of this variety does not mean that the chances of success "melted into a mysterious fog." On the contrary, a very attractive result can be achieved. But for this you will first have to study the plant itself, its features deeply and comprehensively.

Breeding history

The project was implemented in such a large institution as the Michurin All-Russian Research Institute of Horticulture. The leading breeders of this program were Zvyagina and Sergeeva. The plant was obtained using the varietal material of Minaya Shmyreva and Bredthorpe. Official permission to grow this crop in Russian gardens was given in 1994.

Description of the variety

Although the currant is called Green Haze, it is not illusory, but quite real, lays medium-sized semi-sprawling bushes for universal use. Plant height normally ranges from 1 to 1.5 m. Actively growing shoots reach an average thickness. After lignification, it is no longer a light green, but a light yellow color. The leaves consist of 5 lobes.

They reach considerable size and are light green in color. Characterized by a bare leathery foliage surface, shimmering in matte tones. Smoothness or the appearance of light wrinkles is variable. The flowers are medium in size and resemble a glass in their shape. Loose sepals turn unsaturated red.

Green haze brushes can be medium or large. Geometrically, they are more like a cone. 1 or 2 brushes are formed per kidney. They always grow straight and reach a medium density. Pubescence is insignificant, petioles do not reach great length; 5-7 berries can appear in a 6-10 cm long brush.

Characteristics of berries

The black fruits of the Green Mist shine pleasantly. Among them, there are both medium and large specimens. Usually the berry weighs from 1.2 to 2.5 g. Other features:

  • transition from a circle to an oval shape;

  • dry separation;

  • average seed content;

  • the occurrence of pectins - 2%.

Taste qualities

It is noted that this variety produces sweet and sour fruits. In addition to the main taste, they also have a nutmeg flavor. The share of sugars in total accounts for 12.2%. The level of titratable acids is 2.9% (which does not greatly reduce their visibility in the overall balance). It is worth noting that Green Haze berries contain 18.9% of water-soluble solids, and the tasting examination gave them 4.7 points.

Ripening and fruiting

The green haze ripens at an average time by the standards of currant bushes. Harvesting usually begins between July 10 and 20. Fruiting begins very early, and you won't have to wait for a long time after planting the bushes. The harvest will ripen together.

The fruiting of currants depends on the variety, on the region in which it grows, what is the care for it, whether all agrotechnical measures are followed.In black currant, flower buds form on branches that are one year old. So the first small crop can be harvested the next year after planting. Full fruiting begins from the third year of the shrub's life.

Yield

1 bush can grow 3.1-3.6 kg of berries. The level of productivity per hectare is usually about 100 centners. Under the most favorable conditions, the crop can produce 10-13 tons of fruits per hectare. At the same time, it is very important that the result is influenced by both the weather and the worries applied.

Growing regions

Such a berry crop can be successfully planted in:

  • Western Siberia;

  • localities of Eastern Siberia;

  • areas of the North Caucasus;

  • Central Black Earth Region;

  • regions of the Urals;

  • regions of the center of the European part of the Russian Federation;

  • regions of the northwestern part of the Russian Federation.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

Currant Green Haze is not just self-fertile - it is exceptionally self-fertile. This plant practically does not need third-party pollinators. However, giving up on them, if you already have them, is not too wise.

Landing

You can do this procedure throughout the entire period of plant development. However, experienced gardeners definitely prefer the autumn planting of Green Haze. If possible, you should not delay planting - it is better to finish it before October 5-7, so that the plants have time to take root before the onset of cold weather. Spring landing is also possible. But they do it only until the kidneys swell.

You have to choose:

  • well lit;

  • windless;

  • fertile slightly acidic or neutral;

  • area folded by loam.

Not a single garden plot can do without currants. This fragrant and healthy berry is very popular. When planting currants, you need to take into account many factors and nuances. It is necessary to choose the right planting material, determine the location, and competently prepare the soil.

Growing and care

The green haze is very sensitive to dry land. If the topsoil is dry, water each plant with 10-20 liters of water. In hot weather, the culture is treated with a spray bottle. Watering is especially relevant when the bushes are blooming and bearing fruit. Loosening the ground, removing weeds and laying mulch is very helpful.

Fertilization should be applied every spring. The best option is urea and carbamide solutions (they are interchangeable). Such dressings are applied before the buds begin to bloom. Immediately after planting, the bushes are formed, leaving 4 or 6 buds on the branch. Such formation should take place in the first 5 years of the plant's life.

The most important step in caring for currants is the correct moisture of the crop throughout the growing season. Due to errors in watering, you can lose most of the crop and get small and tasteless berries.
Pruning is an indispensable element of caring for any fruit shrubs, including currants. If you carry out this agrotechnical procedure at the optimal time and do it correctly and regularly, the result will not slow down to affect the quality and quantity of berries grown.
Competent preparation of currants for winter is the key to a good harvest for next year. Autumn care for currants and preparation for cold weather includes the following stages: pruning, watering, feeding, treatment from diseases and pests, shelter.
In the process of growing currants, timely feeding is an important part of care. Organic and mineral elements are necessary not only for the harmonious growth of the bush, but also for the formation of the crop. During the entire growing season, the plant needs different substances, which is important to consider when choosing a fertilizer.

Disease and pest resistance

Specific pests for the Green Haze variety are not described in the available sources.However, it is indicated that it can be affected by a kidney mite. Among the diseases, the plant is resistant to:

  • anthracnose;

  • powdery mildew;

  • defeat by pathological fungi.

Currant is one of the most favorite crops of gardeners, it can be found on almost any personal plot. In order for the currant berries to be tasty and large, and the bush itself to be healthy and strong, you should properly care for, treat and protect the plant from harmful insects. It is important to recognize the signs of the disease in a timely manner and begin treatment in the early stages of plant damage.

Resistance to adverse climatic conditions

This culture tolerates cold weather. Drought resistance is also quite high. But relying too much on this property is not too reasonable - it is more correct to play it safe.

If there is a need to increase the size of the plantings of currants or to rejuvenate the shrub, then you can propagate the currants yourself. You can propagate currants in different ways: green cuttings, lignified cuttings and layering. Each of the procedures is a vegetative propagation of currants and allows you to get full-fledged seedlings without much effort.

Review overview

Summer residents rate Green Haze excellent. Pay attention that her productivity meets all expectations. The commercial and consumer qualities of the harvested crop are also at a decent level. Overripe fruits tend to burst slightly. However, if you do not bring it up to this, and pick the berries on time, there will be no reason for complaints.
