Red currant Uralskaya krasavitsa is an early ripe variety that is appreciated among domestic gardeners. Large berries and consistent yields are the key benefits of the crop. It is worth taking a closer look at the characteristics of the plant.
Breeding history
The selection of the Ural beauty was carried out by breeders from the South Ural Research Institute of Fruit and Potato Growing. For the first time in the State Register, the currants obtained as a result of crossing the varieties Chulkovskaya and Faya fertile were brought in in 1990.
Description of the variety
The Ural beauty currant is a medium-sized bush with thick and slightly curved shoots. The leaves of the variety are large, have a rich green tint. The leaf blade is smooth and bare, with slight wrinkles and sharp jagged edges.
During the flowering period, the plant produces saucer-shaped buds that form in the leaf axils and practically do not have any color.
Characteristics of berries
Red currant is characterized by large fruits, the weight of one berry reaches 0.7-0.9 g. The shape of the fruit is round. Other characteristics:
thin skin;
dry separation;
tender pulp.
Currant berries have a universal purpose. They are suitable for fresh use and as a product for freezing, making preserves, jams, compotes.
Taste qualities
The fruits of the variety have a sweet and sour taste.
Ripening and fruiting
The shrub belongs to the early ripening varieties. The first ovaries are formed in mid-July, and by the end of the month it is already possible to harvest the fruits.
Yield
The average yield from 1 m2 is 1.04-4.03 kg.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
The Ural beauty is a self-fertile variety, self-pollination is 61.1%.
Landing
The Uralskaya krasavitsa variety is undemanding to the place of cultivation. When choosing a site, it is better to take into account the presence of good lighting. The best option: a slope where the plant is not threatened by cold winds. Lowlands are not suitable for growing currants, as they accumulate water. Additionally, gardeners advise:
retreat from fences and buildings 3 meters;
plant currants away from fruit trees;
give preference to black soil, loam or forest soils.
If the acidity of the soil is increased, it is preliminarily lime. For planting, take healthy seedlings up to 30 cm high. It is recommended to remove all the leaves per day and lower the roots into clean water.
Planting scheme for red currants:
Shrubs are usually planted in September, after preparing the site. At the chosen place, a hole is dug 40x40 cm in size and up to 50 cm deep.
They maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between the seedlings, 3 meters recede from any structures and buildings.
2 buckets of compost and wood ash in the amount of 3 liters are added to the prepared holes. After the soil is allowed to settle, the process takes 2-4 weeks.
After the specified time has elapsed, the pit is covered with the remaining soil, placing the seedling on top and carefully covering its roots with earth.
After planting the plants, the soil is tamped. The shoots are cut off from the variety, leaving 20 cm and 2-3 buds on each branch.
The last stage is abundant watering. 3 liters of warm water are poured under the bush. Every 4 days after planting, it is necessary to water the young plants and mulch it with humus in order to strengthen the immunity of the currant.
Growing and care
The peculiarity of the Ural beauty currant is that it needs minimal care. Basic recommendations.
Regular watering. Although the variety is able to withstand drought, only the timely introduction of moisture into the soil will allow you to get a generous harvest. From the beginning of June to the end of August, it is necessary to provide the currants with intensive watering, bringing under the bush up to 15 liters of warm water, previously settled.
Weed control. Performed after each watering. The result of such actions is the saturation of the roots of the currant with oxygen and the improvement of the absorption of nutrients and moisture.
Top dressing. Fertilizers increase the plant's immunity to pests and diseases. The first feeding should be done in the spring, when the first snow melts. In this case, it is better to use nitrogen, which will accelerate the growth of green mass. Closer to April, urea can be used as top dressing, adding 15 g of fertilizer to the soil. June is the time of organics, solutions of 10 liters of water and 0.6 liters of mullein are used here. After fruiting, the currants can be fed with phosphates.
Treatment. Especially useful in cool weather. Gardeners recommend sprinkling the bushes with a solution of water, boric acid and zinc sulfate in a ratio of 5 l, 2 g and 1 g, respectively. Processing will increase the number of ovaries.
Pruning. Held in late autumn or early spring. The tops, old branches are usually pruned.
Taking into account the recommendations will allow you to achieve active growth of culture and juicy fruits.
Disease and pest resistance
Red currant Ural beauty has an average resistance to diseases and pests. To prevent the death of seedlings and grown crops, it is worth taking care of preventive treatment. For example, before the first buds appear, you can spray the bushes with a solution of "Fundazola".
Currant is one of the most favorite crops of gardeners, it can be found on almost any personal plot. In order for the currant berries to be tasty and large, and the bush itself to be healthy and strong, you should properly care for, treat and protect the plant from harmful insects. It is important to recognize the signs of the disease in a timely manner and begin treatment in the early stages of plant damage.
