The generous red currant variety was bred by breeding in 1949. Over the course of several decades, this variety has become familiar to most gardeners and has spread throughout the country. The distinctive characteristics of the variety are considered to be excellent yield and pleasant taste.
Description of the variety
Medium-sized plants reach a height of 1.8 meters. In appearance, the shrubs are dense and powerful, taking up a lot of space in the garden. The branches are medium spreading. The purpose of the crop is universal. Shoot thickness is medium. The upper part of the growing shoots is colored deep pink, and the lignified ones turn gray. Shoots are not brittle and straight.
The leaves are round, medium in size (4-7 centimeters). The color is dark green. The surface is matt. Each leaf plate consists of five pronounced lobes. The flowers are small and neat, in the form of a bowl. The brushes are small and dense. The length is about 6 centimeters. Each forms from 8 to 10 berries.
Characteristics of berries
Ripe berries acquire a light scarlet color. The average weight of each berry is 0.5 grams. The sizes are average. The shape is rounded. Inside, large seeds are formed in an amount of 3 to 7 pieces.
Taste qualities
The taste is pleasant, moderately sour and refreshing. The amount of sugar is 6.9%, the volume of dry matter is 17.8%. Acidity - 3%. 100 grams of berries contain 44 milligrams of ascorbic acid.
Ripening and fruiting
Variety Generous refers to varieties with an early ripening of the crop. Shrubs bear fruit from June to July.
Yield
Due to the high yield, one plant forms from 3 to 4 kilograms of fruit. On an industrial scale, 170 centners are harvested per hectare of land.
Landing
Planting is carried out in spring or autumn. When choosing the first option, the shrubs are watered 2-3 times a week during the first months after transplantation. The root system needs nutrition for active development. For fruit crops, sunny areas are chosen. Currants prefers a nutritious soil saturated with organic matter. When grown in infertile soil, it must be fed with manure or compost.
Red currants do not tolerate sharp temperature changes, therefore, territories with hedges in the form of trees are chosen for its cultivation. And also from drafts or strong gusts of wind, bushes will protect the walls of a tall building.
For regular fruiting and fast rooting, an optimal level of soil moisture should be ensured. Scarlet berries contain a large amount of water (82%). To make the shrubs feel comfortable, you need to dig a planting hole of a suitable size. It should be slightly wider than the root ball. The approximate dimensions are 30-40 centimeters wide and the same length.
Disembarkation process:
landing is carried out in dry weather;
half a bucket of compost is placed in each hole;
the soil dug out of the pit is mixed with 0.5 buckets of compost;
a peg is installed in the hole, a seedling will be tied to it;
the seedling is carefully taken out of the container and placed in the planting pit;
soil mixture is poured on top to completely fill the hole;
the earth around the trunk is rammed;
the plant is tied up with a soft material that will not damage the shoots.
Growing and care
The volume and quality of the crop directly depends on irrigation. Watering should be regular, but not excessive. They begin to moisten the soil with the arrival of spring. The procedure is carried out once a week. Most gardeners opt for drip irrigation. This is a convenient and practical system that gently moisturizes the soil, preventing it from drying out.
Red currants do not like cold water, and due to drip irrigation, the water will quickly heat up to the desired temperature. A day after rain or irrigation, the site is loosened. All weeds that appear on the site must be removed immediately. They grow rapidly and take useful trace elements from the ground. Periodic loosening is necessary so that oxygen reaches the roots.
In the process of development, shrubs take useful substances from the ground, which must be replenished with fertilizers. Before adding them, you need to take into account the condition of the plants. If the bushes develop quickly, forms strong stems and a large amount of tasty harvest, you can do without additional feeding.
Otherwise, drugs with a high content of phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen are used. Each of the components has a specific impact on the culture. Some components help to grow foliage, others - berries. Nitrogen fertilizing is used in early spring. Potassium and phosphorus are added in the process of crop formation.
Some gardeners opt for organic matter, for example, rotted manure. It is dissolved in water, and the shrubs are watered with the resulting composition in early March (4 kilograms of manure per bucket of water). The second time the composition is used in June.
In autumn, shrubs are fed with ash (1 liter) or superphosphate (120 grams). These substances are brought under the bush. If desired, the components can be dissolved in water.
Currant is one of the most favorite crops of gardeners, it can be found on almost any personal plot. In order for the currant berries to be tasty and large, and the bush itself to be healthy and strong, you should properly care for, treat and protect the plant from harmful insects.It is important to recognize the signs of the disease in a timely manner and begin treatment in the early stages of plant damage.
