In order for the currant to be able to give a full harvest, grow and develop normally, various nutritious dressings should be used for it. Currently, there is a wide variety of these formulations for such a crop. Often, gardeners use starch for this.

Starch properties

Starch mixtures allow you to have positive effects on fruit bushes:

  • contribute to the active development of green mass in spring;
  • cause the filling of bunches;
  • prevent color shedding;
  • make berries sweeter;
  • prevent wilting, as well as shedding of bunches.

A positive effect is obtained due to the presence in such a component of a large amount of useful potassium, which is also responsible for the correct development of plants. The element is required for photosynthesis.

At the same time, the required amount of potassium will make the plant stems much more durable. The substance will also increase the frost resistance and drought resistance of vegetation.

Often, starchy nutrient fertilizers can significantly increase the air permeability and water permeability of the soil. Starch can repel various harmful insects and increase the fertility of the earth.

It should be noted that starch fertilizers are the most affordable option. They are much less expensive than store-bought nutritional formulas. Plus, they can be prepared quickly and easily at home.

Timing

Most often, such fertilizers are used in the spring. Moreover, the first time the procedure is carried out before the beginning of flowering, and the second - at the time of filling the bunches. Sometimes starch is also used in the fall, after the end of the fruiting period. Autumn feeding is aimed primarily at the future harvest. It will also facilitate the easy recovery of shrubs.

How to cook?

In order for such a top dressing to have a positive effect, it should be prepared correctly. Most often, simple potato peels are used for this, which remain after cooking. In cold weather, it is recommended to leave such products in the frost, since under the influence of low temperatures all important mineral components are easily preserved in them.

When the warm season comes, the potato peelings are taken out, they will have to be used before the putrefactive processes begin. Often, the cleaning is dried - this allows you to preserve the feeding for the longest possible time.

To dry the workpieces, you can send them to the oven for a short time at a low temperature, or simply put them on a hot battery. After such a procedure, they should be thoroughly grated.

Before use, prepared starch cleaners are placed in a large, clean container. They are completely filled with boiling water. There are about 10 liters of liquid per 1 kilogram of this product.

In this form, everything must be left for several days to thoroughly soak. In this case, the mass will need to be stirred regularly. Before use, the resulting mixture must be passed through a sieve - this will get rid of solid particles.

Another simple method of preparing this nutritional supplement is also used. For this, 250 grams of ready-made potato starch is taken. It is diluted in 3 liters of pure water. Put the whole mixture on fire and bring to a boil. The prepared mass is diluted in another 10 liters of liquid.

Such a composition can be perfect for treating shrubs during their growing green mass, as well as during periods of flowering and fruiting.

When preparing such tinctures, it is important to observe all proportions, so that in the end you get a nutritious and effective feeding for currants.

Many gardeners avoid using purchased potato starch for preparing such dressings, because, in their opinion, during industrial processing such a product can easily lose many of its beneficial properties, and as a result, fertilization will turn out to be ineffective.

Some gardeners noted that it is potato peelings that are the most preferred product for making home fertilizers with starch. They are rich in useful polysaccharides, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins A, C, B, and various amino acids. In addition to calcium, purification also contains manganese, iron, sodium, zinc and sulfur, which are also needed for the normal development of garden plants.

Sometimes such dressings are prepared with potato juice. In this case, you must first grate the vegetables on a fine grater. After that, a large amount of natural juice, rich in starch, is formed.

Potato liquid from the container is poured into a bucket with 10 liters of ordinary water. The starch should make the mixture a little foamed. After that, the entire contents of the bucket are poured in small portions under the fruit bushes.

Some gardeners just take a few potatoes, they all go through a meat grinder, as a result of which a homogeneous thick gruel is formed. Such a composition obtained can be folded into a bag and put into the freezer. With the onset of heat, the potato gruel is taken out, thawed and simply laid out in small portions under the bushes. In this case, the mass should be slightly mixed with a small amount of earth.

To achieve the most effective result, you should combine several dressings at once. You can also use ready-made store formulations. Moreover, they can be used for both external and root fertilization of fruit vegetation.

Application scheme

Schemes for starch feeding may be different. Next, we will look at how to use them correctly for red and black currants.

  • For black currant. Such fruit bushes are very sensitive to frost, therefore, in this case, starch should be applied in early spring. In this case, about 5 liters of starch solution will need to be poured under a large adult bush.
  • For red currants. These fruit plants need to be watered and fed at the same time 3 times a year. The first time this is done during flowering, and then when pouring berries and before the onset of frost.

In any case, before applying top dressing, you should carefully examine the plants themselves for the presence of pests and damage. First, the shrubs are treated, and only then fertilizers are applied. Otherwise, the introduced compounds can further harm the currants.

Immediately before applying top dressing, it is recommended to moisten the soil to avoid burns.
