How to connect and set up Smart TV?
Many models of modern TVs go on sale already equipped with Smart TV technology, which allows you to search online directly through the TV interface, watch a movie and even chat via Skype. However, Smart TV requires correct connection and setup to work properly.
How to connect?
In order to start working with Smart TV, you need to establish a connection between the TV itself and the Internet. This is done in two ways:
- wireless, implying a connection to Wi-Fi;
- wired, requiring the mandatory use of a cable.
The first way is preferable, since the resulting connection has a much higher speed. It is easier to turn on such a scheme and you do not have to solve the rather tedious issue of placing the cable in the apartment. Nevertheless, to establish and cable connection should not cause any particular difficulties.
To create a wired connection, you need to select a LAN cable of the required length, and then connect it to the TV, modem and Ethernet port.
This is done as follows: one end plugs into an Ethernet jack on the TV, and the other plugs into an external modem. The modem itself by this time should already be connected to the Ethernet port in the wall. The device quite quickly recognizes the new connection, and the connection will be established, after which it will be possible to activate Smart TV on the TV immediately. This method has quite a few drawbacks. For example, the equipment used is quite difficult to transfer somewhere, since it all depends on the length of the cable.
Moreover, the quality of the connection is highly dependent on the condition of the wire, and its slightest damage leads to the failure of all work... Quite often, over time, the sheathing of the cord will crack, exposing hazardous contents, increasing the likelihood of electric shock. And, of course, it is not always possible to hide the wire under the floor, baseboards or behind cabinets, and it remains ugly to lie on public display. The advantages of the cable method include the simplicity of the circuit, as well as the absence of the need to additionally adjust the TV signal. Most of the problems occur due to the condition of the cable, which means that its replacement leads to the elimination of problems. A special wire costs little and connects in less than 1 minute.
Smart TV wireless connection via Wi-Fi is possible only if there is a Wi-Fi module built into the TV, which is responsible for receiving the signal. In the absence of a module, you will additionally have to buy a special adapter that looks like a small USB flash drive and connects to the USB port of the TV. The first step is to turn on Wi-Fi in the apartment, and also either connect the adapter, or make sure that the built-in module functions smoothly. Next, a search for available networks is started through the TV and a connection to one of them is made. If you need to enter a password or security code, then you need to do this. As soon as the TV is connected to the Internet, you can proceed to setting up Smart TV.
If necessary, it will be possible to use Smart TV technology using a computer. In this case, you will need either an HDMI cable or a working Wi-Fi. However, in the first case, the TV itself will not get access to the Internet, but it will be possible to turn on video recordings on a computer, and see the result on a large screen. In the second case, the computer simply performs the function of a router, and therefore the computer gains access to the online space.
It should be added that sometimes Smart TV technology requires the use of a special set-top box. This module is connected to a TV using an HDMI cable or a combination of a cable and an HDMI-AV converter. "Docking" via USB is also possible. The equipment is charged either from the TV itself, or from an adapter plugged into an outlet.
Before connecting the set-top box to the TV, it is recommended to first de-energize the equipment, and then connect the appropriate connectors with a cable.
In the event that the set-top box is connected to the router using a LAN cable, it is better to choose an RJ-45 cable. Having connected the two devices, you need to open the media player menu and find the network settings. Having marked the "wired connection" or "cable", it will be enough to press the connection button, after which the automatic setup procedure will begin.
How to set up correctly?
It should be mentioned that the Smart TV setup differs depending on the TV model you are using. Nevertheless, whether it was a connection via a router or cable, whether it happened without an antenna, if all the components of the circuit are connected correctly, a message should appear on the screen stating that the device is connected to the Internet. Next, in the main menu, select the "Support" section and activate the Smart Hub item. After launching the browser, you can start installing widgets, that is, auxiliary applications for working on the Internet.
Features of customization of different models
Smart TV setup options vary by TV model.
Lg
Most LG models to work correctly require registration in the Smart TV system, without which even the installation of applications will be impossible. Having entered the main menu of the TV, in the upper right corner you need to find a key that allows you to visit your account. Usually, a username and password are simply entered here, but when using Smart TV for the first time, you will first have to click on the "Create an account / Register" button. In the window that opens, the username, password and email address are entered into the appropriate forms. To confirm the data, you will need to use a laptop or smartphone. When registration is complete, you will need to go to the same window and re-enter the data. This completes the technology setting.
Sony bravia
When connecting Smart TVs on Sony Bravia TVs, you have to act a little differently. First, the “Home” button on the remote control is pressed, which allows access to the main menu.
Further, in the upper right corner, you will need to click on the suitcase image and go to the "Settings" tab.
In the expanded menu, you will need to find the “Network” sub-item, and then select the “Update Internet Content” action. After rebooting the network connection, the TV will automatically complete the Smart TV setup.
Samsung
To set up a Samsung TV, you first need to open the Smart Hub menu using the remote control by clicking on the cube image. That should be enough. You can check the correctness of the settings by going to any of the installed applications... A successful launch symbolizes a quality installation.
By the way, many models also require new user registration, which is described above.
Possible problems
Despite the seeming simplicity of using Smart TV, users often have the same problems with connecting and setting up the technology.
- If there is no contact with the worldwide network, you can go to the main menu, then select the "Network" section, and in it there is already "Network Settings"... Immediately there should be a prompt for automatic configuration, with which it is better to agree by clicking "Start". In the event that the connection is still not established, you need to go to the "Network Status" tab. Going to the "IP settings" section, you should start automatically obtaining an IP address or even enter it yourself. The easiest way to get the required data from the provider is by making a phone call. Sometimes a simple reboot of the device can cope with the lack of an Internet connection.
- In the event that the problem lies in the adapter settings, then they just need to be double-checked.... If the user has the ability to use the WPS system, then you can try to connect the device automatically.
- Blurry images and screen noise appear as a result of insufficient processor power. It will not be possible to correct the situation on your own, since in this case a complete replacement of the device is required. If your browsing problems are the result of slow internet speeds, then it may be better to contact your provider and change the existing service package. Pages take too long to load when the router is located away from the TV. Fortunately, this is the easiest problem to solve.
- When the TV turns on and off on its own, then it is logical to start the repair by checking the outlet - often the fault is lost contacts. Next, the TV's settings are checked and a software update is installed. If, despite the correct settings, Smart Hub is blocked, you can try to work with the service menu. However, this problem most often arises when buying from unofficial representatives and developers or abroad, so it is unlikely that it will be possible to solve it on your own. When adjusting the settings, it is better to save each step on the camera in order to be able to return everything back.
- In case of problems with the Smart TV set-top box operating on android, you can reset to factory settings... Experts recommend such a radical method only when the device freezes, restarts, does not connect to the Internet and slows down. In the first case, you need to open the set-top box menu and find the "Restore and Reset" section in it. After the backup, the "Reset settings" item is selected and the "Data reset" is activated. The device will automatically shut down and reboot.
- In the second case, a special Reset or Recovery button is sought on the body of the set-top box. It can be hidden in the AV output, so you need a toothpick or needle to press. Holding the button, you need to disconnect the power cable for a few seconds, and then connect it back. When the screen blinks, it means that the reboot has started and you can release the button. "Wipe Data Factory Reset" is entered into the opened boot menu and "Ok" is confirmed. Then click "Yes - Delete all User Data", and then select the item "Reboot system now". A few minutes later, the system should reboot.
