The varieties of fruit crops bred in the 1980s have already replenished the gold fund of domestic breeding. However, each of them, including the early Zarechnaya plum, should be considered in detail. Only in this case it will be possible to guarantee, if not complete success in cultivation, then at least the absence of surprises.
Breeding history
Variety trials Zarechnaya early took place in 1985-1988. After their successful completion, in 1988, a corresponding entry appeared in the register of fruit plants. The project was carried out by G. A. Kursakov and L. E. Kursakova. To obtain a culture, they resorted to crossing:
Volga beauty;
Red dessert;
Eurasia 21.
Description of the variety
Plum Zarechnaya early forms medium-sized trees. Their crown is relatively compact, it is distinguished by an oval-rounded or precisely spherical shape. It is not too thick. Shoots are slightly bent. They are typically dark brown in color.
The leaves of such a plum are larger than average. They are oval in shape and are dark green by default. The foliage is smooth and leathery. It is characterized by a matte sheen. The flowers are white.
Fruit characteristics
Large odnokostyanka Zarechnaya early weigh 40-50 g. Round-oval geometric shape is typical for them. The surface of the fruit is dark purple in color. There are quite a few subcutaneous points, and all of them are clearly visible. The abdominal seam on the plums is deep, and the bone is medium in size.
Taste qualities
Zarechnaya early has a sweet and sour taste. It is quite enjoyable even for experienced gourmets. The amber pulp separates from the stone without any problems. Other important facts:
the tasting examination gave the variety an assessment of 4.5 points;
the proportion of dry components is 16.84%;
the share of sugars - 7.85%;
the acid content reaches 1.56%;
the concentration of vitamin C is 135 mg per 1 kg of plums.
Ripening and fruiting
This plum fully justifies its varietal name. Already at the end of the twenties of July, you can count on harvesting. The tree will delight the owners of the plots with the first odnokostyanka already in 3-4 years of development. In the future, fruiting will go on annually. Such periodicity is violated only when the culture itself is in a poor state (for any reason - from violation of agricultural technology to environmental problems).
Yield
The official description states that collection is possible above average. At first, the collection of fruits is small. But it will gradually increase.
Growing regions
The variety is zoned in the Tambov region. However, you can also try to cultivate it in:
Belgorod;
Kursk;
Orlovskaya;
Voronezh regions.
Growing and care
Zarechnaya early appreciates sunshine and space. Dense disembarkation is contraindicated.Strong winds are also harmful to this plant. Clean clay or clean sandy areas should be avoided whenever possible. It is better to make the gap between trees 5-6 m so that their branches are distributed freely.
Thanks to the shade from the crown, in summer, it will be possible to exclude abundant watering. Planting Zarechnaya early is most promising in early spring. It is best to use annual seedlings in the spring and biennial in the fall. Excessive sun exposure is contraindicated.
Fertilizers are applied to pits 600x600 mm in size only after the seedling is buried. Watering it is carried out in 3 or even 4 doses, so that the earth is abundantly saturated with moisture. Unnecessary layers and dry branches are cut regularly. The distance between fruits is adjusted manually. Such thinning is especially important in the most productive years.
The support is selected and positioned so as to exclude contact with the barrel. Similar supports are placed under the branches. In the first few years of development, the Zarechnaya early plum will not require additional fertilizing. However, in the 3rd year of cultivation, such a procedure will no longer be superfluous.
Preferably three times (at the end of spring, at the end of June and in August) the introduction of urea. After that, new feeding is not required. It will only be necessary to control the growth and uniform development of the crown. It is advisable to cut off the side branches, but the one that grows in the center. This is the simplest way to form a crown with your own hands.
There must be at least 4 m to the buildings or any other trees, including those of the same type. It is recommended to adjust the length of the tree itself and the length of the trunk. In the fall, the earth is dug up around the trunk. It is advisable to whitewash the trunk itself. Shelter is required only in very harsh winters, and it is no different from that of most other fruit plants.
Disease and pest resistance
The average level of immunity is characteristic. Therefore, prevention must be dealt with in any case. The highest resistance to pathologies is in the main implied area. If diseases do arise, then they will develop according to an extremely unfavorable scenario. That is why usually you will have to get rid of seriously ill plants.
The danger is primarily rust and bushiness. The scab can also attack this plum. The most threatened insects are:
fruit mite;
hawthorn;
plum moth.
Despite the fact that plum is considered more hardy than many fruit trees, it is not immune from diseases. It is attacked by viral, fungal and bacterial infections, and parasitic insects harm it. It is necessary to notice and recognize the signs of plum disease in time. They are easier to deal with and defeat early on. Well, in order to protect the garden tree from such a misfortune in the future, preventive procedures can be carried out.
Review overview
Zarechnaya early plum is appreciated as an excellent way to simplify worries. Even if you abandon complex pruning, you can get a good result. In some years, the volume of the crop does not meet expectations. However, the size of specific fruits remains quite large. Critical above all, in addition to watering, pruning the tree itself and cleaning the site.
