Plum Orlovskaya Dream is a unique variety that is valued among gardeners for its yield and vitality even in a harsh winter. It is worth considering in more detail the advantages and characteristics of the plant.
Breeding history
The variety was bred by the breeders of VNIISPK, the variety Alenushka was taken as a basis. For the first time in the register of the Russian Federation in 2009.
Description of the variety
The tree grows up to 2.5 meters in height. The main characteristics of the variety:
average number of sheets;
crown;
pyramidal leaf shape;
smooth bark of a rich brown hue;
bare burgundy branches growing straight.
The buds are formed by inflorescences in the amount of 3 pieces. The average rim size is 13 mm. The petals are white.
Fruit characteristics
Plums are rounded with a characteristic deep funnel of small width. The average weight of the fruit reaches 40 g, the maximum diameter is 41 mm, and the height is 44 mm. Peel characteristics:
bright red tint;
points;
light bloom.
The pulp of the fruit is juicy, fibrous, has a pleasant yellow tint, the juice is colorless. There is a small bone in the center of the fruit.
Taste qualities
Oryol Dream has excellent taste characteristics. The fruits are easy to remove from the stalk. When ripe, plums do not crack, which is also considered an advantage of the variety. The average sugar content in one fruit is 10.3%, dry matter - 13%.
Ripening and fruiting
The tree begins to bear fruit in the third year in the summer.
Yield
The average yield per hectare reaches 99.2 centners of fruits. Under good growing conditions, the indicator rises to 120 centners.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
Plum Orlovskaya Dream belongs to the group of self-fertile plants. The tree bears fruit without the participation of pollinators, but their presence can positively affect productivity. To improve growth, plants should be planted next to:
Sissy;
Pyramidal drain;
Hope of Primorye.
In the second half of May, the plum begins to bloom, subsequently forming fruits on the branches covered with buds.
Growing and care
The Chinese plum is recommended to be planted in warm regions during the fall, when the trees will shed their foliage. This will allow the seedling to quickly get used to the surrounding conditions and survive the frost, and in the spring - to start growing. In more northern regions, it is better to postpone planting a tree until spring, when the ground warms up.
Requirements for choosing a place for planting a seedling:
the site must be well lit;
the terrain should be chosen flat, but a hill is also suitable;
the earth should not suffer from excess or stagnant moisture.
It is better to plant a plum in light soil, in which water drainage is provided. The best solution would be forest or black earth areas, but if necessary, you can plant a tree in sandy loam or loam.
When buying a seedling, you should make sure that the tree does not have:
rot;
cracks;
chopped off shoots;
overdried roots.
Before planting, it is recommended to pre-hold the roots of the tree in warm water. Duration of "soaking" of overdried roots is 3-4 hours.
The landing pattern of the Oryol Dream is simple.
First, they dig a hole 60x60 cm, the maximum depth should not be less than 80 cm. The planting hole is made in advance, about 1-2 months before planting the seedling.
Next, compost, 200 g of superphosphate, 60 g of potassium salt and fertile soil are mixed separately to transfer the substrate to the pit.
During disembarkation, fertile soil is poured into the prepared hole, forming a hill, where a plum is then planted.
The roots of the plant are carefully straightened and carefully sprinkled with earth.
At the end, the soil is rammed, and the seedling is provided with abundant watering. The fruiting of the plum tree is directly dependent on the care of the plant. Recommendations.
Timely watering. It is recommended to add moisture to the soil up to 4 times per season. Particular attention should be paid to the period of flowering, fruiting and shedding foliage. Young trees need up to 5 buckets of water, crops from 3 years old - more, up to 9.
Top dressing. The first fertilizers can be applied to the soil 2 years after planting the plum. After 3-4 years, the soil around the Oryol Dream is dug up, followed by fertilization of the vacated space with compost.
Pruning. With its help, it is possible to give the desired shape to the crown of trees. Regular pruning is recommended. During the execution of work, it is advised to immediately remove frozen or broken, diseased branches.
Freeze protection. To strengthen the plant, compost is used with a layer of up to 10 cm. If necessary, the plant can be additionally treated with something.
Disease and pest resistance
The Oryol Dream has a strong immunity to various diseases and insects. The plant calmly tolerates the attack of clasterosporium disease, and is also not exposed to fungal infections and pests. In order to improve the growth and health of the variety, it is recommended to carry out preventive spraying.
Despite the fact that plum is considered more hardy than many fruit trees, it is not immune from diseases. It is attacked by viral, fungal and bacterial infections, and parasitic insects harm it. It is necessary to notice and recognize the signs of plum disease in time. They are easier to deal with and defeat early on. Well, in order to protect the garden tree from such a misfortune in the future, preventive procedures can be carried out.
