Viega siphons: varieties and tips for choosing
A siphon is a specialized plumbing element that is, by its nature, a curved pipe. The purpose of the siphon is to move liquid from one container to another (usually, the liquid is overflowed from a container with a large amount of liquid into the container where there is less water).
Viega is considered one of the most famous manufacturers of quality sanitary products. It is about the products of this company that will be discussed in our article.
Types
At the moment of technological development in the industry, several types of siphons are produced. Let's consider the main ones.
- Corrugated. It is believed that such siphons have the simplest design, and therefore they are quite simple to operate, and the installation of the element itself will not be difficult, since even a beginner can handle this process. Due to its structure, the corrugated pipe bends quite easily and adapts to any shape required in a particular case. That is why a siphon of this structure is quite popular among consumers.
One end of the siphon is connected to the drain of the household unit (whether it be a washing machine or a sink), and the other is discharged directly into the sewer. For a more durable and reliable fastening, a special clamp is often used.
The obvious advantage of a corrugated pipe is the presence of only 1 node for the connection - such a structure significantly reduces the risk of leaks.
Despite all the advantages described, this type also has some disadvantages. Among them, users highlight the following characteristics:
- change in shape and deformation when draining boiling water;
- rapid contamination of the corrugated pipe folds;
- the need to dismantle for cleaning;
- prohibition of installation in unheated rooms.
Useful advice: if a fairly large number of different pipes are brought into your apartment, which are quite inconveniently located and often interfere with plumbing repairs, then you should give preference to this particular type of plumbing siphon. It is also suitable for flush mounting.
- Bottle (or flask). This device, unlike the previous one, has a rather rigid structure. It is important to remember that there is liquid in the siphon vessel in a constant mode, but its excess part always leaves through the top of the vessel, therefore, a kind of water protection is created. The most important advantage of this siphon is that its capacity is capable of storing small parts in itself (for example, in a container you can find a slipped ring or an unbuttoned earring).
In order to carry out the cleaning procedure, it is enough to use specialized products that can be purchased at household chemical stores.
- Pipe. The water accumulated in the bend of such a siphon can act as a hydraulic seal. In order to get rid of the dirt accumulated in the siphon, you should remove the ring specially designed for hygiene purposes. The advantage of the pipe plumbing element is that due to the fact that the siphon's water seal does not have a great depth, the water in it can evaporate, which prevents the emergence and spread of unpleasant sewage odors.
- Dry. The siphon got its name due to the fact that after the water has completely passed through the device, it dries out and does not contain moisture inside.This type of device is considered to be quite specialized. It acts as a reverse acting valve. In the body of such a siphon (which is most often made of plastic material) there is a tube. When water enters the siphon, this tube opens, otherwise it remains in a compressed state - thus the manufacturers protected the consumer from unpleasant odors entering the room.
The dry siphon can be installed both vertically and horizontally.

The built-in siphon is an irreplaceable part necessary in the process of carrying out a wide range of plumbing works. So, it must be installed for:
- washing machine (including semiautomatic device);
- urinal;

- bidet;
- baths;
- kitchen sinks (including dishwasher) and so on.
Model overview
Consider the most popular Viega siphon models.

- Model 6928. This siphon belongs to the Domoplex series. The model is equipped with a chrome-plated cover for the drain hole, and also has an important advantage in its design - the presence of a device (which is removable, so it can be replaced), which protects the interior from the penetration of unpleasant odors from the sewage system.
- Model 6934. This device is released as part of a product line called Duoplex. The manufacturer guarantees quality control of this DIN 274 siphon. It is important to note that the overflow pipe is chrome-plated.
- Model 6931.45 Varioplex. Varioplex is made of chrome-plated brass. And also the siphon is equipped with a water seal and an outlet elbow at an angle of 45 degrees.
