A channel is called one of the varieties of steel beams, in section having the shape of the letter "P". Due to their unique mechanical properties, these products are widely used in mechanical engineering and construction. The area of ​​application of channels is largely determined by their parameters. As already stated, a channel can be distinguished from other metallurgical products by the shape of its section. In this case, the size of the product is considered to be the width of that part of it, which is called the wall. According to GOST, channel 27 must have a wall equal in width to 270 mm. This is the most important indicator on which all other parameters of the product depend. First of all, the thickness, as well as the width of the shelves, which basically determines the scope of this product.

The flanges of such a metal beam can have parallel edges of the same thickness as the web. Such products are most often obtained by bending a steel plate in a special mill. For the twenty-seventh channel, they, as a rule, have a width of 95 mm. The length of the product can be from 4 to 12.5 meters. According to GOST, the weight of 1 meter of this type of channel should be close to 27.65 kg. A ton of these products contains about 36.16 running meters with a standard weight of 27.65 kg / m.

The differences are caused by the manufacturing technology and the variety of structural steels used in accordance with the conditions of use of a particular product. High-precision rolled products (class A) used in mechanical engineering most meet the requirements of GOST, small deviations are allowed in class B rolled products. It can also be used for the manufacture of certain structures in mechanical engineering. For the needs of construction, the least accurate conventional class B rolled products are usually used.

If the shelves of the channel 27 have a slope of 4 to 10 °, then it is marked as 27U, that is, the channel 27 with a slope of the shelves. Parallel shelves will be marked with 27P. Special rolled products with shelves unequal in width are marked as 27C. Lightweight bent products from a thinner steel sheet are designated by the letter "E" (economical), the thinnest rolled products will be designated by the marking "L" (light). The scope of its application is limited to some branches of mechanical engineering. The variety of channels is quite large, but all of them are produced in accordance with the characteristics defined by GOSTs and developed in accordance with the requirements of mechanical engineering enterprises and building codes.

The bending strength of the channel, due to its peculiar shape, determined the widest scope of its application. This type of rolled steel is most popular in modern construction as load-bearing beams in the manufacture of frames. Often, the channel 27 is used to reinforce various reinforced concrete structures. It is often used for the construction of floors during the installation of window and door openings. The use of this rolled metal in mechanical engineering is no less widespread. The structures of automobile and tractor frames, trailers, wagons cannot be imagined without such a product.

A standard 27 channel, marked in accuracy as normal (class B), can be purchased at specialized retail outlets.
