The plastering material "fur coat" is known to almost everyone, despite its exotic name. This type of plaster has been used in the construction of buildings for many years and can be seen on many buildings built during the Soviet era. At that time, the builders did not set themselves the task of inventing an aesthetically attractive composition: they used sand and cement mixed in the right proportions and adding water. As a result of finishing, the appearance of the walls was far from aesthetic appeal. We understand the modern variety of types of this material and the methods of its application.

Types of plaster

The use of plaster under a fur coat is still relevant today. Builders use this method to try to save on materials, which is not at all necessary, since at present in any hardware store you can find dry decorative plaster for a fur coat at an affordable price.

The main advantage of this material is the fact that its operational properties are higher than that of a homemade analogue. Due to a wide selection of finishing materials presented by trade marks for sale, you can find plaster in the form of a ready-made mixture on store shelves. It is sold mainly in buckets. The cost of this material is higher than the dry analogue, as well as the performance.

This decorative plaster received an unusual name due to its similarity to fur: in finished form, it has a rough texture. This look is obtained thanks to the simple technology of mixing plaster with small stones. The size of the stone can be varied, it all depends on the purpose that is pursued during the repair. By using larger stones, you can get a more embossed wall. The opposite result can be achieved using small stones.

The plaster for a fur coat in the form of a dry mixture must be diluted with clean water at room temperature. This type of decorative plaster is now white and gray. It is a budget type of such a finishing material; this option is used mainly to cover larger surfaces. One of the main advantages of this material in powder form is the ability to paint the composition in any desired color.

The ready-made pasty plaster in buckets contains synthetic polymers, which gives the composition increased softness and strength. Plaster of this design can have absolutely any color. It is advisable to use this expensive plaster for interior work (in order to save money), and it can also be used for the final coating of surfaces. It is also important to use expensive plaster to cover certain parts of the interior (for example, arches, columns, curbs). In this case, the concept of high cost is relative: if repairs are performed for themselves, the use of high-quality materials should be the main principle of work.

In addition to all the listed properties, plaster decorative material under a fur coat has good thermal insulation, noise insulation properties, which justifies its name. It protects walls from negative environmental influences. The use of this plaster greatly facilitates and speeds up the preparatory work, since it allows you to hide the defects of the working surface. Installation can be done independently (without the participation of a qualified technician).

It is important to mention that plaster damaged during operation is not difficult to restore. The material allows such a possibility, while the updated area will not be knocked out of the general finishing canvas. A sufficient number of advantages of using plaster under a fur coat in wall decoration have been noted. For example, this composition can be painted with silicone or acrylic paint. Now you need to figure out how to apply it to the surface of the walls.

Application methods

And the preparation of the working surface does not have to spend a lot of time. When working on the outer surface of the building, it is sufficient to prime the surface with good quality and dry it well. To treat the surface inside the house, you can walk on the surfaces with a primer twice: this will make the film formed on the surface during drying more durable. It is possible to apply each layer of soil only after the previous one has completely dried.

There are cases when the treated surface is initially all cracked and uneven. In this case, these shortcomings must be eliminated before priming the surface, only after that it can be primed. If work is carried out indoors, the remnants of old finishing materials should be dismantled. Eliminate surface defects with the desired solution, but nothing needs to be sanded, because the rough texture of the fur coat will hide all minor defects. After that, priming the surface is also required.

Plaster for a fur coat is applied to the surface in different ways. The choice of the tool used depends on the method of application. In total, a large list of tools may be needed.

Sometimes it is enough to prepare:

  • textured roller;
  • trowel (spatula);
  • manual plaster sprayer;
  • industrial compressor;
  • broom (in the form of a broom);
  • an ordinary stick.

This arsenal belongs to the conservative and cheap (with the exception of the compressor) set of tools. It is more suitable for finishing a small area. Currently, modern technologies for applying plaster are common, but these tools are more expensive. This article is about small areas, so the listed list of tools is fine.

If a dry composition is used in the work, which must be diluted with water, some rules must be taken into account:

  • Before mixing the material with water, be sure to stir it vigorously, as the stones may be unevenly distributed in the total mass.
  • Plaster under a fur coat should be applied without pause (in one approach) from one edge of the wall to the other (long pauses can contribute to the fact that the transition between layers remains noticeable).
  • It is advisable to carry out the work with an assistant who will prepare the mixture while you apply the plaster.

When working with the material with a spatula, immediately apply a layer of plaster, and then level it in circular (or back and forth) movements with a trowel. As a rule, a plot of no more than 1 square meter is treated in one approach. m. During the leveling, one should not hesitate: when the solution hardens, it is more difficult to get rid of visible lining defects. When working with finished materials in buckets, this is a must, as they quickly harden.

When applying plaster with a roller, there are two ways to apply the composition. In the first method, the decorative material is applied like paint. Before that, it is diluted with water, then a fleecy roller is immersed in the finished mixture and the surface is painted with plaster. The second method is that first the plaster is applied to the surface with a spatula, then it is rolled with a fleecy roller.

You can use a broom made of twigs. The broom is immersed in the prepared material, after which the material is sprayed onto the wall when the broom base hits the stick.This is an old method, but effective and economical, although sometimes the end result cannot be called accurate. It all depends on the qualifications of the master. Do not despair. Even if the end result is not satisfactory, you can always finish the surface with a roller.

The sprinkler should be mentioned. The plaster sprayer is a device with a container for ready-to-use material. Working with a sprinkler does not require special skills; this method is considered semi-professional. It is enough to direct the hole to the wall and turn the handle. This is how the solution starts to spray over the surface. This method implies the cash cost of the instrument itself.

The compressor is used when applying plaster to the facade of a building: this is working with large areas. In this case, it is irrelevant and unreasonable to use a roller, a broom. The compressor is a professional version, therefore its price is appropriate. The same result as with a compressor cannot be achieved economically: the work performed by the compressor is of higher quality. If you need an ideal result, it is advisable to seek help from professionals who have the necessary set of tools.

Coloration

The main colors that are most in demand among professional craftsmen are white and gray. It is worth noting that other bright colors look very attractive. However, buying a colored plaster with the effect of a fur coat, you can spend a lot of money. In such a situation, you can think of the following: you can paint the dried plaster in the desired color.

It should be borne in mind that from exposure to sunlight and dampness, a plastered wall can quickly lose its fresh appearance and brightness. Fresh chips on colored plaster require regular touch-up, as any defects will immediately catch the eye. But even in such a situation there is a way out: you should add a little paint to the solution itself and mix thoroughly. However, it is advisable to initially purchase high quality materials in order not to engage in minor repairs in the near future.
