How to apply silk plaster correctly?

Silk plaster is a new finishing material similar to the same fabric. Plaster called "silk" is the same as liquid wallpaper. Another name simply helps to distinguish this particular type among all liquid wallpaper, in addition, it really contains fibers of rayon. The mixture also includes water-soluble glue, particles of cotton and cellulose. All kinds of glitters and plasticizers are also added, that is, additives to increase plasticity. The composition of the plaster "wet silk", in contrast to other liquid wallpaper, contains particles of mother-of-pearl, and it is they that provide an amazing effect of glow, overflow, play of light.

The finishing material is also called velvet plaster due to the fact that the walls covered with it look like velvet and look very impressive. The finish looks great on large indoor areas. Since it is easy to prepare and apply, silk plaster is gaining popularity very quickly. Many different colors and shades are already produced for every taste of consumers. You can buy silk plaster packed in plastic bags in almost all building markets.

Benefits of silk plasters:

Wet silk application consists of several stages. Like all liquid wallpaper, dry plaster is simply soaked in warm water. It is in warm, because the glue that is part of the mixture should dissolve. In cold water this will not happen completely, but in hot water it will curdle.

Pour the glitter first into a suitable convenient container with prepared water. Wait up to ten minutes and pour out all the dry mixture. Now, with your hands in rubber gloves, mix the composition until an even mass with the density of sour cream is obtained. The solution will be ready for use in 20 minutes.

It's time to prepare the necessary tools and auxiliary material: a stepladder, water, a trowel for grouting (this is a tool like a trowel), suitable spatulas, a rag.

The working material is ready. Unfortunately, not everyone knows the rules for applying decorative plaster to the prepared surface. The initial, so-called basic, coating with liquid silk should be made thin and evened as much as possible. It dries for a couple of hours (the period is indicated in the instructions on the package). The work is carried out by hand or with a trowel. Take a handful of the mixture in your hand, press it against the wall and smooth it with a trowel to the edges. It is desirable to make the layer up to two millimeters. The plaster mass is consumed depending on the thickness of the applied layer. It takes about two hundred to four hundred grams per square meter.

Silk plaster is actively included in the category of popular materials also because of its creativity. Not only monochromatic coatings are created from it, but a variety of patterns and even whole compositions. And for this you do not need to study design art at all. Everyone can try their hand at creating beautiful accents.

Prepare a drawing template in advance or project images to a selected location, circle it. You can use a marker or pencils with a suitable color. Treat with silk of the desired colors using the appropriate pigments. Gently adjust the edges with a spatula, rag, and you're done.

Since silk plaster does not like moisture, wiping with a wet cloth is not good. It is recommended that you use a vacuum cleaner for infrequent cleaning of the surface, brushing gently over it to avoid accidental damage. The silk cover is especially appreciated for its long-term service and does not require unnecessary maintenance.

In case of minor or even deep damage, do not be upset. Moisten this area with water - the plaster can be easily removed. By diluting a little of the mixture according to the already familiar method, you can again cover the damage site.

And this is not the limit. Imagine that the long-applied silk coating is tired. I would like to update the room. The renovation won't be a big deal. Moisten wall silk with plenty of water. Slowly, using a spatula, the wet old coating is removed. It will not be difficult to prepare and change the walls at will. And most importantly, the already used silk wallpaper will still serve. Collect the old cover, dry it and put it in a plastic bag, where it can be stored for years. It is easily used on a different surface and looks completely new.

The new "wet silk" plaster dries in about a day - the exact drying time is indicated in the instructions attached to each package.

If ordinary plaster can be applied immediately over a large area, this is not recommended with a silk composition. It should be consumed in small areas of about 1x2 m. The ends remain uneven. When moving to an adjacent area, start strokes from them, as a result, the borders will be invisible.

The first layer is applied to the walls in the same way. It is left to solidify for the same time. But the top layer is applied with a roller. A roller with a not very long nap is better. We divide the plots into the same area. Traces remain from the roller (experts call them a "fur coat"). Smooth them with long movements.

The longer the pile of the roller, the thicker the layer is applied. Then it is difficult to form the surface relief.

It is even easier to make such a coating, since you do not need to process it with a covering primer with the addition of color. Easy alignment of the walls, as with any renovation, and the desired composition can be applied. Thus, the layer is one. The working material is applied in short strokes from right to left or up and down. The first stage has been completed.

The second stage is the formation of texture. Do not apply too much pressure with your hand or with a trowel, make elongated strokes. Remove excess mortar from your hand or trowel with a spatula as needed. The surface is ready, it remains to let it dry.
