Wardrobes
The more we live, the more things we acquire. And from the very birth, the question arises where to store them. Once, for this they used chests, baskets, and later - chests of drawers, now they use wardrobes.
What it is?
In various dictionaries, you can read that the closet is a place for storing things.
The wardrobe was invented for storing a dress back in the 16th century. It was made of solid wood, and therefore was heavy, bulky and expensive. And only in the 19th century, when factories began to produce cabinet furniture, wardrobes became available to more buyers.
Now this piece of furniture is called clothing, sometimes dress. Synonyms for the concept of "wardrobe" are "wardrobe", "wardrobe". In modern models of such cabinets, things can not only be hung, but also put on the shelves.
This piece of furniture has become a necessary means of safe storage of seasonal items, and a way to protect against dust and burnout.
Despite the different definitions of the concept, experts call a wardrobe a piece of furniture that has walls, a bottom, a top cover, doors, and sometimes legs. A distinctive feature of the wardrobe are swing doors.
Views
If you try to classify all wardrobes, then the criteria may be:
- shape and design features,
- the size,
- number of doors
- material.
Forms and design features
Any wardrobe in appearance can be linear or angular. In this case, the linear version has a rectangular shape with swing or radius doors.
An example of a linear cabinet is a narrow pencil case that can only be used for a bar with a hanger.
A travel bag is a small locker for a bedroom. It has a minimum number of shelves and a small bar for several hanging items. Such a piece of furniture cannot be called a wardrobe, because it stores everyday things “for tomorrow”.
Large storage facilities are used for the rest of the clothing. For example, a corner cabinet.
This is a place to store all kinds of things from underwear and bedding to hats and umbrellas. Such an object is angular along the back wall, while its facade can be both rectangular and radius.
Part of the corner cabinet may not have doors at all, but only open shelves. Most often, corner models are designer ones, since it is not always possible to choose furniture in the store by the size of the corner and the interior.
The chiffonier can be one of the modules of the furniture set. The indisputable advantage of such furniture is its mobility. If desired or necessary (for example, during repairs), it can be easily rearranged to another place.
Also, this item is convenient to combine with other types of furniture, for example, with a chest of drawers.
Since the corner cabinet is a more complex model, it has some design features:
- g - shaped wardrobe takes up the whole corner,
- radius smoothes corners and makes them safe,
- trapezoidal allows you to attach other linear modules,
- a triangular one fits in a lot of things, but “eats up” all the corner space.
Dimensions and number of doors
The choice of the size of the wardrobe depends on the number of things that need to be placed in it, and on the functionality.
- Single-leaf pencil case - this is a narrow high cabinet from 30 cm wide. As a rule, it has a barbell with shoulders, but there are a lot of models. The case can be divided into several vertical sections: on the top - for things weighed, on the bottom - shelves or drawers. In this case, there can also be several doors (one above the other).
- Travel bag Is a two-door wardrobe with or without legs. Width - from 50 cm, depth - 50-60 cm.
- The mezzanine is usually installed on a three-door or four-door wardrobe... Such large wardrobes are more stable to accommodate an extra shelf for things and are therefore safer.
These are standard values. But they can change at the request of the customer. As well as the height:
- any closet can be low (for example, for children);
- low, with an optimal height;
- high with a mezzanine.
Thus, the height of the wardrobe can be from one and a half to two and a half meters. And if the width of a small pencil case starts from 30 cm, then a corner cabinet can take up to 2.4 m along one wall.
The same is the case with depth: a shallow cabinet has dimensions of 50 cm, the depth of a corner cabinet depends on the model.
Materials (edit)
Previously, furniture was made only from solid wood. The material used spoke of a person's wealth. Now, along with wood, other raw materials are used, which are cheaper, easier and easier to maintain.
The following traditional and non-traditional materials are used for the manufacture of cabinets:
- Wooden array. Wardrobes made of oak, pine, birch and alder are more durable. They are very attractive in appearance. Such a cabinet itself will tell about the well-being of the owner, or about his skillful hands. Items stored in a wooden wardrobe will always smell good.
The only thing that the owners of such furniture need to be wary of is bugs - bark beetles, woodworms and shashel.
- Chipboard - the most popular material from which standard furniture is made. A chipboard cabinet can be assembled and disassembled several times, but each time its appearance will deteriorate. Chipboard swells with water, burns out in the sun. This must be taken into account when choosing a place for a wardrobe.
- Fiberboard - fibreboard (hardboard), from which the back walls and bottoms of drawers for cabinets are made.
- MDF (MDF) - the most popular material in Europe for the manufacture of furniture. The difference between particleboard and MDF is the size of the sawdust. Figuratively speaking, chipboard is shavings passed through a meat grinder, and MDF is sawdust crushed with a mixer. This material has all the advantages of wood, but at the same time it is much cheaper. In addition, MDF is environmentally friendly compared to particle board.
- Cloth the wardrobe helps out those who are strapped for money or need a portable version of the wardrobe. A wardrobe piece made of fabric is easy to assemble, weighs little, but at the same time it can look like a road version without frills, or be beautifully decorated. The doors of such a wardrobe are closed with zippers.
- Plexiglass Is another modern material used for the manufacture of cabinets. In this case, the entire cabinet or only the doors can be made of frosted or corrugated plexiglass.
- Wood, veneer, metal, plastic, plexiglass and ordinary glass are used as fittings.
Styles
The style of any piece of furniture depends on the size of the room and its design.
- Linen wardrobe in classic style are available in both large and small rooms. They are rectangular or radial. Buyers often choose wenge color. A white wardrobe with a mirror and gold molding is a classic in its purest form.
- Constructivism Is a combination of rationalism and logic. Such furniture will not have decorations. The main thing is functionality and convenience in everything. Popular style colors are white, black, yellow, blue and red.
- Legged wardrobe in mediterranean style Is a handmade item. For its manufacture, bog oak or pine is used. Different Mediterranean countries use different color palettes. The Greeks liked the cold shades, and the Italians liked the warm ones. Having painted such furniture with white acrylic paint, it will be covered with a patina.Antique wardrobe - a canon of the Mediterranean style.
- Kitsch - super extravagant style. Those who decided to use it in the design openly scoff at design traditions and foundations. Various shapes and colors can be applied here. Therefore, it often looks tasteless.
- Provence - this is brevity, simplicity, grace. If you look closely at the dwellings of our grandmothers in the villages, you may find such furniture there. It brings coziness and warmth to a country house.
- About style high tech we can say "modern classics" for young people. This is the case when plexiglass, frosted glass and metal can be used to make a linen closet. Shades of light colors, a lot of metallic - this is a high-tech style.
- Roughly processed boards, knocked together into an uncomplicated structure - this is how a style wardrobe might look like country... A good craftsman decorates the facade with carvings. And it will be immediately clear that this furniture is made with soul.
- Style avant-garde does not accept standards. It is a mix of different directions.
- Loft Is an attic freedom made using yellow, green and brick colors. LoftIndustry can even accept a cabinet made of metal.
- Minimalism easy to perform. There is no pretentiousness here. Simple geometry and soothing colors are characteristic features of this style.
- Style wardrobe modern Is wood, glass and metal. Such furniture can be decorated with curved elements, because the main idea of the style is smoothness, combined with flexibility.
- Wardrobes in style pop Art often come with multi-colored walls and doors. Such models look bright and colorful. It is not worth putting such furniture in the bedroom (especially for children) because of the irritating effect on the nervous system.
- Very interesting furniture in style techno... But this only applies to individual models. There can be many hanging cabinets and unusual items here.
- There are modular corner cabinets in the furniture market in the style Art Deco... Since this style has incorporated the national cultures of Asia and Africa, Europe and India, the colors and lines are very diverse here.
Colors
Sometimes it seems that the room should be decorated in a specific style with traditional colors.
But it's worth understanding how these colors will affect those who constantly meet their eyes. Knowing the peculiarities of the effect of a particular color on a person's well-being, it will be easier to decide on the choice of furniture.
All colors are divided into cold (for example, blue, purple) and warm (for example, yellow or orange). But cold or warmth depends on interaction with other tones: green next to yellow will become warm, and next to black - cold.
For a relaxing effect, choose a pastel yellow-green wardrobe facade. And choose a yellow-orange wardrobe for the children.
Light blue furniture will provide drowsiness. But the blue tone is psychologically overwhelming.
Red is the color of psycho-emotional arousal. A large amount of it will be annoying, and the set accent in the form of decor can look interesting.
A little purple on lilac will provide calmness and a certain sexuality.
The most popular color in the bedroom is brown. You can play on the contrast of the shades of the cabinet and the flooring, and then the room will seem soft and warm. If all pieces of furniture are dark brown, then such a room may look "heavy".
High-tech steel in combination with shades of yellow or beige is appropriate for the decor of the wardrobe and the entire room. Also a good combination gives shiny metal and ultramarine.
White is best combined with any other color so that the room does not seem like a hospital. It can be basic or additional.
Black looks great. But it needs to be correctly combined. Otherwise, all furniture in a dark color will make the room look unsettling and cold.
Design
The design of the wardrobe depends on the material from which the facade is made. The most familiar doors are made of chipboard or MDF with a mirror. But the mirror surface can be used in another way.
For example, cut out small circles and glue them on the doors. It will look interesting in the children's room. You can also draw flower petals or stems around these details, and then such a design will be close to the Provence style.
A mirror on the doors will help to visually enlarge the room and additionally illuminate it. This is a good way out for small rooms. But do not install mirrors in front of the bed, so as not to be afraid of your own reflection at night.
The facade can be painted with acrylic paints. But it is better to cover the wardrobe for children with furniture varnish so that it lasts longer. As a decoration, you should use moldings, decorative flowers, thick threads or twine, as well as plastic fittings.
Frosted plexiglass door with floral patterns is beautiful and noble. But you can put a photograph or any drawing on the glass. If you install spot lighting inside the cabinet, then when the light is on, such doors will create additional comfort in the room.
Modern wardrobes are often backlit. This design allows you not to include other light sources when you need to find some thing. If the backlight is not provided, then it can be installed independently using wired or wireless bulbs.
Filling
The cabinet filling is a storage device in the interior. Depending on the size of the furniture, the filling may be different. To the maximum it happens:
- bar for hanging clothes,
- several hangers,
- drawers or containers,
- baskets for various small items (for example, shoes),
- shelves without doors,
- shelves with doors,
- tie women.
A large wardrobe is conventionally divided into 3 levels:
- upper shelves for rarely used items,
- middle area for things of constant use,
- lower area - shoe shelves and heavy items.
Where to put it?
The place of installation of the wardrobe depends on its size and dimensions of the room. Before buying a finished product, you should carefully measure the distance, not forgetting about baseboards and radiators.
In a small room, it is more profitable to use a linear cabinet along the wall or a corner model. This will allow you to make the most of your space. For example, for a room of 14 sq. m. a pencil case is suitable. It can be nailed to the wall at a distance of about half a meter from the floor. Then it will be possible to put an ottoman or a chair on the floor.
In large rooms, a three-part and four-part wardrobe can become a partition to separate the work area from the resting area. The back side of the cabinet is often highlighted under the shelves or decorated with photowall-paper and paintings (photographs).
Typical apartments have niches. If desired, a linen closet can be made from them. Ready-made pay furniture can also be installed there.
Speaking about the rational placement of the cabinet, you need to think about whether its location will interfere with other family members. For example, if a wardrobe for dresses is used by all people living in this area, then you should not put it in the bedroom or nursery. Otherwise, you may wake up your children or spouse when choosing clothes. The living room is more suitable for a single closet.
If there are several such pieces of furniture in the house, then one should be in the nursery. For teenagers, personal space is very important. For a girl, such a wardrobe will be a recognition of her independence. Let her decorate it however she wants, and be sure to equip the furniture with a mirror.
If the wardrobe is an element of the headset, then you can put it in the way that is convenient for the residents or provided for by the instructions.
Beautiful interiors
For each type of room, select the appropriate wardrobe model.
- 2 wardrobes and a chest of drawers will successfully fit into a Provence-style bedroom. The glass facade looks especially impressive in such an environment. Transparent doors can only emphasize the simplicity of the style.
- A large corner wardrobe can be placed in the living room. Such furniture with a radius configuration will look especially impressive. Due to the large number of doors, any thing will be easy to get from there. Such a wardrobe will not only be functional and comfortable, but also ergonomic even in a small room. Such furniture embodies the elegance created with the knowledge of the psychology of a comfortable existence.
- A modular bedroom suite includes several wardrobes at once. This option of furniture is convenient for the ability to combine it for any room size.
- When using a mirrored front, the cabinet benefits from space and light. The room will look bigger and much more interesting.
A wardrobe is a must. Furniture manufacturers offer a huge selection of wardrobes for every budget. Buy a finished product or make an individual order - the buyer decides. Perhaps someone will even want to do it on their own.
The main thing is that it is beautiful, reliable, functional and everyone likes it.
