Sorrel is an extremely healthy crop. The plant contains a lot of vitamins, and it is not difficult to grow it. However, the sorrel needs several feedings. How to properly organize the process will be discussed in the article.

Essential Nutrients

Sorrel definitely needs to be fed. Timely feeding allows plants to increase immunity, reduces the number of diseases, and helps to get a richer and more succulent harvest. The easiest way to determine the need for nutrient application is in early spring.

If the plants look lethargic, lighten or turn yellow, they definitely need fertilization. They are also needed in case of reddening of the veins on the foliage.

Outdoors, a plant may need the following elements.

  • Copper. It is required for active growth. If it is not enough, the bushes become weak, and the side shoots simply stop growing.
  • Bor. With the help of boron, plants greatly enhance immunity. The lack of this element is an "invitation" for diseases and pests.
  • Phosphorus. The lack of this element will be indicated by blue or purple leaf plates. Without phosphorus, plants bloom poorly, almost do not form normal seeds.
  • Zinc. This element is responsible for the health of the sheet plates. In his absence, they can deform, become stained.
  • Potassium. Helps sorrel better withstand weather changes, improves its immunity. Plants lacking potassium look very sick and weak in appearance.

In addition, the described culture is very much in need of iron and magnesium. Without them, the processes of photosynthesis are inhibited, and the culture itself is greatly weakened. Before making any top dressing, it is necessary to clearly define what exactly is lacking in the sorrel. If you add everything in a row, you can get an excess of nutrition. And this is even more harmful than lack. They feed the culture three times a season, a larger amount is impractical. In this case, you can use both purchased products and organic fertilizers.

Fertilization in spring

You can apply a portion of fertilizer when planting sorrel in the spring. Such dressings not only saturate the soil with the necessary nutrition, but also contribute to rapid growth. The area must be cleaned as thoroughly as possible before processing.

There are several options for spring feeding, you can choose any.

  • Compost (or humus). You need two buckets per square meter of soil.
  • Mullein. Overripe cow manure is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 7 and the area is watered with this composition.
  • Minerals. Here you will need to take superphosphate, top dressing with a high potassium content, as well as ammonium nitrate. Everything is taken in one teaspoon, stirred in a bucket of water. This bucket is enough for 1 sq. m area.
  • Nitrogen. Any fertilizing with nitrogen in the amount of three tablespoons is taken, diluted in a bucket of water. A liter of composition is needed per square of soil.
  • Minigran. This is a dry, commercial product. Gives excellent results. The package is opened, the granules are sprinkled directly onto the soil over an area of 7 or 8 square meters. Cover lightly with earth. You can water, or you can wait for natural precipitation. You can use top dressing in the second or last spring month.
  • DCM Bio-organic Vegetables and Herbs. It is a liquid formulation that can be applied repeatedly, but at intervals of 14 days. To prepare the solution, take 3 milliliters of the product and 1 liter of liquid. Water the garden.

Important: you need to fertilize sorrel with organic fertilizing only if it grows like a perennial.Organic matter is permissible only in the second year, it will burn young crops. Before processing, old leaves are cut off, old stems and other debris must also be removed. Annuals should be fertilized with mineral store products.

Top dressing after cutting

Plants are cut in summer. The first cut is carried out when the leaflet stretches up to 8 centimeters, the further only when the rosette acquires at least 5 leaves. After cutting, the sorrel will need additional feeding for further growth. You can stop your choice on the following options:

  • ammophoska or nitrophoska;
  • Fertika.

Fertika fertilizer remarkably accelerates the growth of fresh herbs. This is a granular product that is scattered on the site in accordance with the dosage. Basically, 30 grams of the drug is enough for a square meter of soil. Next, you need to sprinkle the granules with a substrate and wait for natural precipitation. In addition to Fertika, you can use the same Minigran.

You can fertilize plants with folk remedies. There are two good options.

  • Onion peel. A quarter of a kilogram of raw materials is taken, filled with 10 liters of cool water. After a day, the composition must be filtered. Then it is used for watering plantings.
  • Soda. Combine five tablespoons of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of crushed laundry soap. The product is then dissolved in a bucket of water. The sorrel obtained is also watered.

Fertilizing greens in the summer after cutting, it is worth remembering two important rules.

  • Plants require potassium, but it is strongly discouraged to use wood ash as it. It greatly lowers the acidity of the soil, and sorrel should only grow on an acidic substrate.
  • Phosphorus is also prohibited during this period. It promotes active flowering, which is not needed by the sorrel at this stage. After cutting, you need to speed up the release of new foliage, flowering is useless.

Fertilization in the fall

In the fall, greens should also be fertilized. If these are perennials, then with additional feeding they will successfully overwinter. And if annuals, then all the same, the soil should be fertilized by the next season. The soil is well dug up, cleaned of debris. Then top dressing is added. Most gardeners prefer mineral mixes. There are two options here.

  • "Agricola universal". Take 50 grams of the drug, crumble on the surface of a square meter of soil, covered with a light layer of soil. No watering required. You can add the product every 14 days starting in August.
  • Pokon. Another great mineral soil additive. Contains all the components necessary for plants. For a square meter of beds, 30 grams of funds are enough. After spreading on the ground, the granules are sprinkled. You can fertilize the soil in this way every three weeks.

In addition, some organic products are available to gardeners in the fall, for example:

  • compost (placed next to green bushes);
  • wood ash (watered with infusion based on it, or simply powdered);
  • ammonium nitrate (distributed over the ground, dripped a little, watered);
  • garlic infusion (grind several cloves, mix in equal parts with water, insist for 7 days, filter, dilute again, water the soil).

It is very important, when planning to feed sorrel, to use only suitable means. Expired specimens can seriously harm sorrel, even to the point of death. And also do not exceed the dosage. If the product is dry, and the instructions say that then you need to immediately water it, then you should listen to this.

If the plants look lethargic, lighten or turn yellow, they definitely need fertilization. They are also needed in case of reddening of the veins on the foliage.
