All about washer sizes

Knowing everything about washer sizes is necessary not only for professional repairmen, builders and assemblers, as is often believed. The most ordinary people will only benefit if they have a clear idea of ​​what M4 and M5, M6 and M8, M10 and M12, M16 and M20 are, other sizes according to GOST. A separate important topic is the diameter of galvanized and other washers.

Knowing the basic dimensions of the washers is necessary because the size of compatible fasteners depends on them. For structures M3 in accordance with the current GOST, the following parameters are required:

• weight of 1000 units - 340 grams;
• 2942 pieces per 1000 grams;
• unit weight - 0.00034 kg;
• nominal section of the hole for cutting - 0.32 cm;
• the spread of outer sections is from 0.664 to 0.7 cm.

Things are a little different with the dimensions of the M4 fasteners. The cross-section of the grooves in this case is, of course, 4 mm. However, the length of the hole d1 is slightly more - 0.43 cm. The minimum outside diameter exceeds 8 mm. To be precise, it is equal to 8.64 mm; but these parameters only apply to perfectly flat products, and for growers, the linear dimensions are (in centimeters):

• 0,76.

Many consumers are trying to buy the M6. A similar product:

• the section inside is 6.4 mm;
• outer width reaches 1.2 cm;
• the structural metal layer is 0.16 cm.

But, of course, the M8 washer is also very popular. With an internal dimension of 0.84 cm, it reaches 16 mm outside. As for the thickness, it is the same as that of the M6.

The next size on the list is M10... Washers like these are designed to be compatible with screws and bolts of the same category. The actual hole in the inner part can range from 1.05 to 1.077 cm.

For growers, this is between 1.02 and 1.07 cm. Outside sections d2 for a simple washer minimum 1,948, maximum 2 cm. For the grower, scatter is not typical. The d2 index is fixed at 18.1 mm.

It is also useful to pay attention to the M12 washers. Its flat type has two particular options: with or without chamfering. The thread section, the size of the recess and the perimeter will be, respectively:

• 1.2 cm (the same for the grower);
• 1.3 cm (in the grower version 1.22 cm);
• 23.48-24 and 21.1 mm;

If the previous formats are not enough, M20... And the estimates of various companies even show that this is one of the most popular solutions. The thickness of this model is the same as that of the M16. Internal section - 21 mm. Outside, it is already 3.7 cm; in the form of a grower, the indicators are as follows:

• threaded size 2 cm;
• d1 2.02 cm;
• d2 3.36 cm.

Steel universal (i.e. furniture, automotive, etc.) fasteners M24 has a thickness of 0.4 cm. Diameter inside / outside 25/44 mm. It is allowed to use in conjunction with other products of the M24 format. All such products are produced in accordance with GOST 11371-78.

The same standard applies to hardware of the category M30. Their linear parameters:

• inside diameter - 31 mm;
• outside diameter - 56 mm;
• total metal thickness - 4 mm;
• hole cross-section in the grower version - 30.5 mm;
• the outer diameter in the grower version is 48.2 mm.

Quite often, washers, including galvanized metal, are purchased from foreign suppliers. In this case, the hardware is made according to the norms DIN 125. Such a standard has its own set of sizes, which to a large extent differs from the usual Russian GOST. So, DIN M1 has diameters of 1.1 and 3, with a thickness of 0.3 mm.

Class M1.8 with an inner diameter of 2 mm on the outside already has a dimension of 0.45 cm... Starting from M2.2, the outer section will already be at least 6 mm, and the thickness - at least 0.05 cm. DIN M5 class means that the width of the hardware around the perimeter reaches 10 mm. In the M6, this figure is already 12 mm. The largest serial version - M90 - differs with an inner diameter of 93/96, an outer diameter of 160 mm; the metal layer is already 1.2 cm.

The M22 is characterized by:

• inside width - 2.3;
• width along the outer perimeter - 3.9;
• thickness - exactly 3 cm.

But the problem is that the real and printed on the packaging or otherwise mentioned by the sellers do not always coincide. And even the mention of standards helps only in the best possible way. In this case, the required dimensions are determined using a caliper, and as a first approximation, using a ruler; in the process of measuring, a slightly higher value will be obtained than it is written, which is associated with the need for a free stroke. Important: the letter M may be formally absent in the marking of products that do not have a thread - this is completely normal.
