All about yellow wood screws
In hardware stores, we see a huge number of different self-tapping screws, they can be the same size and differ in color. The layman immediately has a question, what are their differences, except for color and cost. In this article we will try to explain why you need to choose reliable yellow fasteners.
Peculiarities
Yellow self-tapping screws can be divided into two types: galvanized and yellow passable. The former are a separate type of stainless self-tapping screws made from zinc alloy-coated wire. Galvanized hardware has a higher cost than their phosphated counterparts. The zinc layer is not afraid of moisture and very well resists rust.
Self-tapping yellow passable self-tapping screw is also created from high-carbon steel wire, it is coated with zinc and additionally treated with chromic acid.
The self-tapping screws in question have the following advantages:
- very high resistance to corrosive processes, the ability to use in almost any conditions;
- attractive appearance;
- resistance to mechanical stress and damage.
They have only one drawback - it's high price. Yellow self-tapping screws perfectly fasten wood and materials based on it, you can also use them to fasten sheet metal. However, if you ignore the price, this type of fastener is more attractive and versatile than the black varieties.
Model overview
Such self-tapping screws are divided into several subspecies, consider the main ones.
- Wood. When working with wood and materials based on it, self-tapping screws with a wide thread are usually used. This helps to preserve the structure and prevent damage or cracking.
- Universal (SHUZH). The interpretation of this term is “universal yellow screw”. It is made of high-carbon steel and has medium threads, therefore it is suitable for various types of surfaces and has sharp points, as it has to pass through materials of different densities. Usually, the head has a cross-shaped slot, so you can screw in the screw even with a regular cross-head screwdriver. They can connect wood and plastic together. If you need to attach metal, you should drill a hole in it before screwing it in.
- Fasteners for floors and parquet. Since ordinary self-tapping screws can cause damage when fixing parquet panels or floorboards, it is recommended to use special floor fixings. In their design, a special self-drilling point is provided, which gently passes through the soft layers of wood without deforming them. No pre-drilling required.
size table
If you know in advance the thickness of the surfaces that will be fastened together, and the parameters of the self-tapping screws, then it will be easy to choose the right ones for each type of work.
All basic parameters for yellow hardware are specified in GOST 1145-80.
There is a special table in which everything is indicated - up to the thread pitch and the diameter of the caps. You can familiarize yourself with such information in more detail by examining the document.

Scope of application
When choosing hardware, you should think about the conditions in which they will be in the future. Due to the special anti-corrosion coating, yellow self-tapping screws are recommended for use in rooms with high humidity and when working outdoors.
Yellow self-tapping screws are considered decorative. They are also great when the fasteners need to match the fittings.
For example, when assembling furniture, when attaching door hinges or other elements that have a corresponding golden color.
Due to the variety of sizes, such fasteners are widely used, they can be found everywhere: in the bathroom, in the kitchen and in many other places.
