Dimensions of block house siding board
The variety of facing materials will turn the head of any buyer. To make the right choice, you need to know which material will serve you faithfully and will not let you down in any weather. The most optimal solution in financial terms for cladding the walls of various building and household structures is a material called clapboard or "block house".
Peculiarities
The house, faced with the "block house" material, looks restrained and laconic, but at the same time very dignified and stylish, due to which the "block house" is widely used not only in the exterior, but also in the creation of interior solutions.
Once upon a time the question of what material the "block house" was made of did not even arise. Now a variety of modern finishing materials for every taste are presented, which represent a wide scope for creativity. Consumer properties, sizes, profiles, colors of the "block house" are not limited by anything, which makes it absolutely "flexible" in the implementation of any exterior consumer decisions, providing an excellent visual combination in various styles.
"Block House" is a panel imitating timber, which can be made of various materials such as vinyl, metal, MDF, natural wood and others.
Panel types
Wooden siding "block house" imitates a log, but it is a board with a planed surface with a width of 80 to 150 mm and a thickness of 8 to 20 mm, characterized by the presence of grooves and a ridge. The most common samples are made from pine, larch, oak, linden, alder and others. Wooden "block house" is subdivided into the following types depending on the purpose:
- for interior decoration (approximate overall dimensions of the panel are 22x99x2100 mm or 22x99x3000 mm);
- universal (36x142x3000 mm or 36x142x 6000 mm);
- for exterior decoration (36x1930x6000 mm).
The metal "block house" also imitates timber, but has a number of advantages in lightfastness, fire resistance, is resistant to temperature extremes and unpretentious in maintenance. Its main area of application is facade cladding. The approximate overall dimensions of the panel are 22x360x600 mm.
The "block house" made of PVC is the most budgetary of all of the above, but this does not prevent it from having a decent list of positive properties:
- resistance to temperature extremes in the range from -50 to + 60 ° C;
- resistance to the development of microorganisms when humidity changes;
- unpretentious care;
- service life reaches 50 years;
- the approximate overall dimensions of the panel are 2x24x366 mm.
Wood panel production
In the first stage, the pre-processed log is sawn using a transverse or radial method. Then, in a period from 10 days to 2 weeks (the drying time depends on the initial moisture content of the tree), it is exposed to high temperatures. Further, with the help of milling machines, the profile and face of the board are formed directly. Next, the comb and grooves are cut. At the next stage, the product is trimmed and sorted.
Features of storage of wooden options
Do not forget that wood is a very capricious material, therefore it is very important, after processing, to ensure optimal storage conditions that will not lead to disastrous consequences. The tree must be protected from high humidity.
To avoid damage to the panels due to moisture, the boards are packed in a special shrink film, forming packs of several lamellas, while leaving the ends open to ensure natural ventilation. It should be noted that the board, which has dried at natural humidity, deforms and cracks much less. A dry board should have a moisture content that does not exceed 15%.
When choosing, you should pay attention to consumer characteristics and cost. Dry lining is 25-30% more expensive due to drying costs, but at the same time it cracks or deforms less.
Taking into account the quality and characteristics of various types of wood, the panels are divided into varieties or classes (A, B, C). This separation is carried out depending on the condition of the wood, the presence of resin pockets and intergrown knots.
Category data must be reflected on the package of the "block house".
- A - for every 150 cm of length, one knot, two resin pockets and two blind cracks are allowed;
- B - for every 150 cm of length, no more than four knots, two resin pockets and two blind cracks are allowed;
- C - cracks, pockets, larger knots are acceptable than in other categories.
The highest quality "block house" belongs to class A.
Stages of fixing panels when sheathing a house
When sheathing a house, you must follow simple rules and act consistently.
- Before starting work, the material must undergo acclimatization (to accept the properties of the environment in order to exclude further deformations, cracks and distortions). For outdoor work, the adaptation period is from 2 to 3 days, for interior decoration - a minimum period of 5 days.
- Thermal insulation and vapor barrier of the outer walls of the building.
- Preparation of the "block house". Surface treatment of panels with fast and deep penetrating protective agents. For grooves and dowels, this procedure is recommended to be performed twice.
- Direct installation of panels starts from the bottom of the wall and leads further up according to the principle of "thorn in groove" (thorn - up, groove - down). You can fix the "block house" to the wall with self-tapping screws, nails or special brackets. As the temperature and humidity change, the panels can change the density of the material, so studs are best suited for fastening, since they do not interfere with small displacements.
After finishing the cladding, it is necessary to reapply the protective layer on the panels, then renew the coating every five years.
Secrets of the masters
In order to reduce the total amount of work, it is recommended to use wide panels for the external cladding of the building, which will give the house a stylish appearance. Such panels are difficult to distinguish from real timber. We must not forget about natural ventilation, stepping back a short distance before starting installation. When reapplying the protective layer, special attention must be paid to the seams and joints.
For external cladding, it is recommended to use a flat "block house" made of coniferous species, and for internal cladding - from deciduous ones. It is not recommended to use wide panels indoors. The estimated cost of finishing work may fluctuate depending on the characteristics and material of the "block house".
How to choose?
To choose the best panels made in accordance with Russian and international standards and save yourself from unnecessary costs, you need to pay attention to several points:
- It is worth starting with an accurate calculation of the required amount of material, which directly depends on the characteristics and dimensions of the "block house", not forgetting about the margin of error for trimming.
- Great competition among manufacturers in the Russian market does not mean that there are only high-quality panels that correspond to the declared grade. It is necessary to carefully inspect the purchased product for obvious defects (cracks and other damage). But here, too, there are difficulties - you cannot unpack the product if it is packed in film. You can only inspect the panels located at the edges. Inside the package, boards may lurk deformed from moisture and improper storage.
- To check the presence of curvatures, 2-3 panels are connected to each other, taking into account that there should not be a rigid fixation. If possible, you should definitely measure the moisture level of the material.
- The panels should be trimmed along the growth of the tree trunk and the annual rings should not protrude from the board to avoid splitting. The edges of the boards must be additionally checked to ensure that they are smooth and free from cracks, which are signs of defects.
- Particular attention should be paid to the "block house" extended in length (milling from several parts of the board). The sections can be of different lengths, adjusted according to the pattern or type of sawing, the connection can be made using glue.
- It is worth paying attention to the presence of mold and other microorganisms.
Any curvatures, cracks, irregularities and distortions make the panels unusable for use and installation. It is worth checking the connecting grooves.
Panel cost
The cost of the "block house" panel depends on several factors, the determining of which are the wood species and geometric parameters. For the manufacture of used rocks growing in the region of production. However, for an individual order for an additional fee, you can order the manufacture of any material. The cost of tree species common in the middle lane ranges from 150 rubles per m² (pine) to 1250 rubles per m² (oak).
Classes (A and B) in Russia are very difficult to distinguish visually, respectively, and their price is 20-25% higher. The price for class C is much lower. An additional cost for 1 m² for class A will be added by forced drying.
Useful Tips
It is recommended that you pay attention to a few main points.
