To grow a rich harvest of cucumbers in a greenhouse, gardeners use special nets. This article will tell you about the features, types of material, the method of its installation. In addition, we will show you how to tie cucumbers to them.

Peculiarities

Cucumber nets are the best option for tying a weaving vegetable crop. They fit:

  • for the competent arrangement of greenhouses and hotbeds;

  • help to increase yields;

  • set the direction of growth;

  • create comfortable conditions for the formation of leaves, stems and fruits.

The material is a cellular fabric of various lengths and widths. Supplied to the domestic market in rolls of different sizes. Depending on the modification, the shape and size of the cells may vary. Typical dimensions of the holes are from 10 to 15 cm. This is enough to ensure good air circulation.

Cucumber nets are bought for large farms and ordinary private greenhouses. The use of trellises allows you to create comfortable paths between the rows. In addition, the nets increase the illumination of the plants. They help to maintain the integrity of the lashes.

The nets exclude contact of plants with the ground, they are a measure for the prevention of diseases characteristic of a given crop. Lattices organize and save space. They are practical, stable, durable, simplify watering, weeding, fertilizing crops. Harvesting becomes more convenient.

They are installed after planting seedlings in prepared soil. In addition to light, they provide the culture with the necessary amount of heat. If necessary, they can be transferred to a new place or put away for storage. Depending on the backing material, they can be rolled back into a roll.

The nets are made on the basis of natural and synthetic materials. They are characterized by high moisture resistance. It is not difficult to use a net for growing a vegetable crop: it must be pulled without sagging on firmly installed stakes.

You can grow cucumbers using the grid every year. During use, the material does not change its properties - it does not stretch or crack. Most often it is colored green (it can be bright green, dark green).

Description of species

There are many varieties of cucumber nets used to grow crops in a greenhouse or greenhouse.

Plastic

Plastic products are in demand due to their high wear resistance and strength. They can withstand heavy weight loads, do not break under the weight of ripening cucumbers. They have high technical characteristics. They differ in budgetary price, they can be bought in rolls and by the footage (taking into account the stuck on the frame).

Trellis

Tapestry modifications are wider than plastic counterparts. Tapestries are more reliable and functional. They are attached by means of auxiliary supports, the type of construction may vary.

  • Vertical networks are extremely simple. Most often they consist of a pair of support posts and the net itself. Their supports can be wooden posts, pipes, metal profiles.

  • Inclined trellises differ from their vertical counterparts by the presence of a slope. For greater stability, these structures have additional support. The angle of inclination can vary, which is good for growing different varieties of crops.
  • A-shaped trellis are two inclined structures, connected by an upper crossbar, or to each other with special fasteners.These are nets on a metal frame.
  • Arched modifications can be very diverse. In a simple version, these are vertical structures with a semicircular top. Complex systems are like a curved arch. They are rarely used (they are more suitable for arranging flower beds and garden beds on the street).

Trellis nets have a knotted weave and a reinforced edge. This makes it easier to attach them to the support elements.

Other

By the type of shape, cucumber lattices can be rectangular and even rounded. Hut modifications represent the creation of a supporting structure resembling a cone with a stretched cellular fabric or threads. However, such options are used mainly in open garden plots.

Depending on the size of the greenhouses and the skills of gardeners, the designs of cucumber nets can be homemade, made from scrap materials. Other gardeners stretch the mesh on structures of the most unusual shape (up to a cylindrical one, created from a pair of wheels with a central support).

In addition to the two commonly used options, cucumber trellises can be wooden (slatted). These modifications are nothing more than a wooden frame with stretched ropes.

Installation technology

Using a cucumber net is not difficult. To put it vertically in the greenhouse according to all the rules, it is necessary to outline and install supporting pillars made of wood or metal along the edges of the ridge. They need to be deepened into the ground by about 30 cm.

The size of the support depends on the width of the mesh used. On average, for cucumbers, it is enough to put supports, the height of which, excluding the buried part, will be 80 cm.After that, the mesh itself needs to be pulled onto the supports. If you want to make the structure more durable and reliable, the upper and lower edges of the lattice must be secured with a rope or wire.

Attaching the mesh to the supports is possible not only with ropes, threads and wire. In order to place it at a certain height without any displacement, it is better to use fasteners. Self-tapping screws or even ordinary nails are suitable for wooden supports. Hanging the net on them is easier than winding it on metal supports.

The grating is attached to the ground with U-shaped wire brackets. At the top, it is fixed to the support beam. Depending on the design, it is pulled, or the supports are wrapped around it (as, for example, in the case of the A-shaped type of base). If the mesh needs to be placed outdoors, this is easier to choose as it is good for windy areas.

When the size of the greenhouse is small and the grid has to be stretched less than 10 m in length, the number of support elements can be minimal. Sloped structures can be attached to the walls of the greenhouse (if they are wooden). This will give the grille more stability.

How to tie up cucumbers?

The growth and formation of lashes depends on the correct garter of cucumbers. This must be done correctly: setting the direction upwards when the lash reaches the bottom of the trellis. Moreover, any tension is excluded, the plant should grow freely upward. It is impossible to twist the vines, the close location of the shoots is excluded.

Garter methods vary. but to support the lashes, the first garter is performed only when the cucumber bushes grow after planting to a height of 15-20 cm. At this point, they need to be tied to the first row of the installed grid. It is important to ensure that the bush does not crash into the net, otherwise the shoots may break during development.

As the lateral shoots grow, it is necessary to re-direct the plants. To prevent thickening, the first garter is performed in a checkerboard pattern. This method slows down vertical growth and provokes the growth of cucumber shoots on the sides.

Cucumber lashes are not wrapped around the lattice, but only set the direction for them. In the future, they themselves cling to the network well.

In addition to the correct garter, pinching, timely watering, weeding, and loosening of the soil must be carried out.
