Rust belongs to the category of fungal diseases. It affects fruit trees, shrubs, sunflowers, wheat, pine, needles, horse chestnuts. The causative agents of the disease are rust fungi. To prevent the plant from dying, it is necessary to carry out treatment in a timely manner. It is recommended to treat healthy plants for preventive purposes.

Causes and signs of appearance

Rust is harmful to plants. At the initial stage of development, the disease affects only the leaves, and then moves to other parts. The affected tree is weakened. Due to the disease, the following deviations are observed:

  • reduced resistance to low temperatures;
  • yield decreases;
  • the quality of the fruit deteriorates.

Plants that have been attacked by rust lose moisture intensively. Metabolism is disrupted, as a result of which the processes of photosynthesis become very scarce.

Determining the presence of rust is easy. The most obvious sign is the appearance of specific red pads on the sheets. As the disease progresses, the pads are combined into strips. In this case, the leaves turn yellow and fall off ahead of schedule.

Plaque appears due to improper and untimely plant care. The most common reasons are:

  • lack or excess of moisture;
  • negative impact of the external environment;
  • mechanical damage;
  • lack of nutrients.

As a result of the combination of these factors, plants are weakened and sick.

How to treat?

Spraying is the most effective treatment for rust. There are many formulations that fight disease.

A cheap and proven remedy is baking soda. To prepare the solution you will need:

  • water - 5 l;
  • baking soda - 1 tbsp l .;
  • aspirin - 2 tablets;
  • sunflower oil - 1 tbsp. l .;
  • any detergent 2 tsp.

All ingredients must be thoroughly mixed in one container and sprayed on diseased trees.

Laundry soap can also be used to treat disease on trees and shrubs. You need to prepare a solution consisting of the following ingredients:

  • 200 g each of garlic tops, tomatoes, dandelions;
  • 100 g of any laundry soap;
  • 10 liters of water.

All greens need to be finely chopped, pour boiling water over and let it brew for 24 hours. Then you need to add laundry soap and boil for 3 hours. Spray the cooled mixture over diseased plants.

Another effective folk remedy is wood ash.. To prepare a medicinal sweep, you will need to do the following.

  1. Pure wood ash in a volume of 2 kg must be filled with 3 liters of water. Put on fire and cook for 60 minutes.
  2. Then add the laundry soap grated on a coarse grater. Enough 100 g. Mix everything until completely dissolved.
  3. Add cold water in a ratio of 1 to 5.

Spray diseased plants with the resulting mixture.

If for some reason you do not want to prepare funds from scrap materials, then you can use store preparations. The most common of these are copper sulfate. Processing is carried out in the spring, even before budding. A 1% solution is suitable.

The process consists of several steps:

  1. add 100 g of copper sulfate to the bucket;
  2. 500 ml of hot water is poured there;
  3. the mixture is thoroughly mixed and allowed to brew for several minutes;
  4. then add 10 liters of cold water and mix well again.

An equally common option is Bordeaux liquid.A 1% solution will also be effective here. It is prepared at home. The main components are copper sulfate and quicklime. The cooking process is simple.

  1. In a bucket, you need to mix 100 g of copper sulfate and 1 liter of hot water, but not boiling water. After the mixture is thoroughly mixed, add another 4 liters of cold water.
  2. In another container, 100 g of quicklime is mixed with 1 liter of water. It is necessary to mix so that there are no lumps left. Then you need to add 4 liters of cold water.
  3. Then both mixtures must be combined and mixed well.

These are the most common methods of dealing with rust on the trunk and leaves of trees and bushes. To cure the disease, you need to spray 3-4 times within 2 weeks. It is recommended to choose calm and cloudy weather for the procedure.

In this case, it is better that there is no rain for several hours before processing. In order to remove the disease, you need to process it efficiently. Additional processing is not recommended.

Prevention measures

To prevent the disease from appearing and spreading to plants in the garden, it is recommended to follow preventive measures. Any of the above solutions can be used as prophylactic agents. It is recommended to spray in spring and autumn.

In addition, to prevent the disease from attacking trees and shrubs, it is important not to disturb the favorable environment. To do this, you must observe the following.

  • Avoid drying out or excessive moisture of the soil... In dry weather, additional watering is organized. If there is too much moisture, you can loosen the soil to increase air exchange.
  • You can not do too frequent plantings... There should be enough distance between shrubs and trees for free branches. If the leaves are constantly in contact with each other, then there is a high probability of developing rust fungi.
  • It is necessary to prune branches in a timely manner.

If you follow these rules, the risk of rust on bushes and trees is minimized. When the first symptoms appear, treatment should be carried out immediately, since it is much easier to defeat the disease at the initial stage.

If the affected area is small, it is recommended to remove diseased branches. Lubricate the cut sites with a special paste or stew.
