It is his experienced gardeners who use it to feed various varieties of roses. The tool must be used correctly, as well as take into account possible disadvantages.
Advantages and disadvantages
Magnesium sulfate (chemical formula - MgSO4) contains 13% sulfur and 16% magnesium. It is these elements that have a beneficial effect on roses, helping them absorb phosphorus and calcium necessary for growth and development. The benefits of Epsom Salt for roses are as follows:
- foliage acquires a rich dark green hue, ceases to turn yellow and fade;
- the buds become strong;
- flowering is characterized by abundance;
- the root system of the bushes is strengthened;
- the petals take on a bright color.
In addition, top dressing enhances the resistance of roses to various diseases and pest attacks.
Despite the positive impact, there are also negative points to consider. So, if used incorrectly or the wrong dosage, Epsom salts can ruin not only the roses themselves, but also the soil. This will be followed by a long recovery period.
Instructions for use
Magnesium sulfate is recommended for feeding roses of different ages and varieties. Fertilizer must be administered in spring, summer and autumn. To do this, prepare a solution according to the following recipe: 1 tablespoon of fertilizer is added to 4 liters of water. The drug must be well diluted in a liquid, and then watered with a solution of rose bushes during the growing season.
This should be done no more often than once every 4 weeks.
In order not to harm the ornamental plant with your actions, it is recommended to adhere to certain rules. They are as follows.
- For processing, it is recommended to choose a day with dry and calm weather.
- It is best to feed in the early morning or late evening. When watering is carried out on a leaf, due to active exposure to sunlight, the plant may get burned. This is especially true for processing in hot months (July, August).
- Do not increase or decrease the dosage.
When planting, the roots of roses are also recommended to be soaked in a solution of magnesium sulfate. To do this, dilute 250 ml of fertilizer in 10 liters of water. In the prepared solution, you need to soak the roots of the roses for a few minutes. 1 tablespoon of fertilizer is also laid out in the holes.
In order to feed roses, it is absolutely not necessary to buy an expensive fertilizer. It is enough to purchase magnesium sulfate, and then prepare a solution from it with the desired concentration.
The root system is soaked in the solution, and they are also watered throughout the growing season. Dry fertilizer is added to the planting holes. If you do everything right, the roses will bloom well and profusely, and the foliage will acquire a bright and rich shade.
