But the rarest are black roses, represented by various varieties, the name of which is "Black Prince", "Black Baccarat", "Black Bute" and others. It is worth considering in more detail what they are and how to plant such flowers.
Description
Black roses first grew in the small Turkish village of Halfeti. Velvety petals, subtle ebb, aromatic notes leave the most pleasant impressions and inspire. A black rose has a dark red or dark scarlet color, but under certain lighting conditions it looks like black. Some varieties have dark crimson shades close to black. The areas where black roses are grown differ in the state of the soil - groundwater has a high level of hydrogen, so the flowers have an unusual tone. Flowers will be able to bloom only in spring.
Their color will be dark red at first, and will turn black in summer.
Rose bushes have a height of 71 centimeters to 1.7 meters. The leaves are green with tints of red or black. The surface of the leaves is soft and smooth. The bud is medium or slightly larger, has a goblet or spherical shape. The diameter of the flowers is about 13 cm, the flowers themselves consist of 40–47 velvety, double petals. There are thorns on the stems, but in some varieties there are too few of them.
Varieties

How to choose the right seedlings?
Many flower shops have black rose seedlings. But in order to choose a good plant, you need to pay attention to the following rules:
- before choosing a variety, you must first decide in what conditions the flower will grow;
- you need to understand which group the selected species belongs to, having considered its characteristics: growth, initial and long-term flowering, repetition of flowering, and others;
- you should consult with experts and understand where it is better to grow this or that variety of black roses, find out the age of a young seedling; cultivation can be of different types: on the ground, in a greenhouse or in a greenhouse;
- you need to purchase grafted seedlings that are no more than 2–2.5 years old; plants that are of this age can withstand the cold winter and take root when planted;
- Seedlings on their own roots are considered the weakest, since they grow for a very long time and in most cases cannot withstand cold winters;
- it is necessary to check the quality and age of the stem of a seedling that has bare roots, since some of the stems will have a woody appearance;
- a young plant with bare roots should be disinfected using copper sulfate (35 grams per bucket of water);
- all stems should have a fresh, green, uniform appearance; if the stems are wrinkled, then the seedling itself is dry or has diseases;
- healthy plants should not be stained; they must have well-developed roots, stems, leaves and buds;
- if the purchased young seedlings need to be transported over a long distance, then certain conditions must be created for them: the roots must be immersed in water, the shoots must be wrapped in wet paper, the seedlings themselves must be placed in a plastic wrap, thanks to which the plants will live for about 6-8 days.
Planting features
It is best to grow bushes where there is shade, as the sun's rays can damage dark flowers by overheating them. Early spring is the time when you can plant, grow and water your bushes. In order to water black flowers, you must use colored water. You need to take 1 spoonful of black dye, dilute it in 6 tbsp. water and water the bush once every 2 weeks. The main thing is to use only food coloring so as not to harm the flower.
If the bushes are of considerable size, then you need to add a little more solution. After a month, changes will be visible on the buds of the plant. Wait until the flower opens before adding a large amount of dye. If it is small, then it is better not to risk with a huge amount of dye and leave the flowers to grow.
In two months, they will be able to fully bloom and delight with their beautiful view.
And you must also observe the following rules when planting this flower:
- varieties of black roses are frost-resistant and can withstand cold up to -21 degrees, but if the temperature is below -21 degrees, then these flowers will have to be covered so that they do not deteriorate;
- all bushes must be constantly cut off, and unnecessary shoots and damaged branches must be removed; roses that bloom for several seasons must be pruned in the fall;
- it is imperative to carry out agrotechnical measures so that the bushes can bloom all season;
- if the flowers are located next to the balcony or in the garden, then they should not be sprayed every day, in which case you can water them with warm water once a week;
- since air is needed for black roses, the soil must be carefully loosened, but the roots of the flower must not be touched.
At home, you should adhere to the following recommendations:
- you need to place these flowers on a consecrated window, but at the same time you should not allow heat;
- flowers should not be left near too dry air, as the leaves can dry out and pests will appear on them.
Compatible with other colors
Beautiful flowers like roses can be used to create wonderful flower combinations. It is important to remember that this flower is the main element. The superiority of roses must be properly separated from other flowers. To prevent aphids from settling on the bushes, plants such as nasturtium and lavender should be planted nearby. Calendula can repel aphids, bugs and ticks. Geraniums, tansy and thyme have a strong smell and repel Japanese beetles.
To prevent fungus from appearing on the flowers, it is necessary to plant garlic and onions next to the bushes, and the latter will also help increase the pleasant smell of roses.
To add brightness and richness, in the area where beautiful flowers grow, you need to plant a Salvia or a tulip. Violets, primroses, bells add originality and tenderness to the flower garden. You can grow cereal plants with rose bushes, such as oat, silver elimus. Roses will blend beautifully with blue and green plants such as sage or phlox. Flowers such as daisies and lilies have white flowers that accentuate the splendor of the roses.
Before combining all these flowers and plants with rose bushes, you need to remember about such rules as:
- you cannot plant other flowers very close to rose bushes, as they need air; if these beautiful flowers are not provided with air, then a fungus will appear in them;
- violet and lungwort can mask empty soil in spring, and then grow well in the middle of roses and retain moisture for them;
- for more original combinations, it is proposed to plant a plant such as clematis next to roses, since this plant has a variety of shapes and flowers.
So black roses are luxurious flowers. They have an alluring and fragrant scent and always attract people with their beauty and superiority.
