The Voodoo variety belongs to the category of hybrid tea roses. It was bred in 1984 by a breeder from the United States - Jack E. Christensen. Since then, the variety has gained popularity among flower growers from different countries. Flowers are intended for cutting, and the bushes themselves can be used in landscape design as a hedge or as decorative elements. In order for the bushes to look attractive and to observe abundant flowering, the crop must be properly cared for, which includes several important nuances.
Description of the variety
Voodoo bushes reach 120-150 cm in height, and 80 cm in width. The variety is distinguished by elastic branches. A distinctive feature is the large, dark green leaves with a glossy surface.
The variety is quite thermophilic, reacts negatively to the effects of low temperatures, as well as to a significant excess of moisture. But with proper care, Voodoo can be grown both in central Russia and in the northern regions. Perhaps in the latter case, the flowering period will be shorter.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like other varieties, Voodoo has its own advantages and disadvantages. There are quite a few positive aspects. They are as follows:
unpretentious care;
long flowering period;
large flowers;
bright and pleasant greenery;
thick stems.
Among the disadvantages, it should be noted that the Voodoo variety is more susceptible to various diseases. If the rules of care are violated, a sharp reaction appears in the form of wilting and falling buds.
Flowering features
Flowering is quite abundant and long, as it lasts from July to September. The main color of the flower is orange, but other shades are not excluded: yellow, pink, peach.
The bud is long, cupped in shape. Most specimens reach 10 cm in diameter. The number of petals on each of them varies from 30 to 35 pieces. The arrangement of flowers is single or directly in the inflorescences. One stem can contain from 1 to 3 flowers.
Separately, it should be said about the aroma that Voodoo roses give. It is very pleasant with predominantly fruity and floral notes. And also the aroma is quite intense, it lasts for a long time. If you put a bouquet with cut roses of this variety in the room, then the space will be filled with a pleasant aroma in a few minutes.
Landing
In order for the beautiful rose bushes of the Voodoo variety to be present on the site, they must not only be successfully planted, but also in the future to carry out correct and timely care.
The first thing to do is choose and prepare the best site. It must meet the minimum requirements: moderately lit, protected from drafts, with fertile and loose soil.
Landing is carried out in several successive stages.
On the selected plot of land, it is necessary to dig a hole of a suitable size. The soil inside is slightly moistened.
It is very important to equip a small drainage layer at the bottom of the hole. For this purpose, chipped bricks are a suitable material.
For a seedling, it is necessary to straighten the existing roots as much as possible so as not to damage them, place it in the hole.
Sprinkle with earth gently. Drizzle with water at room temperature.
You can plant not only in spring, but also in autumn.May, late September or early October are most suitable for planting. It is recommended to be guided by the weather conditions here. Most likely, young plantings will need shelter for normal development. That is why it is recommended to install a mini greenhouse.
Growing and care
After the roses have been planted, timely and proper care must be taken for them. It consists in periodically loosening the soil, as well as watering. It is important to focus on the visual degree of soil moisture, to prevent drought, but also not to overmoisten. Both will negatively affect the condition of the roses.
It is noteworthy that in hot weather the buds fall off somewhat faster. To slow down this process, it is recommended to apply fertilizers. For this purpose, universal mineral fertilizers such as potassium sulfate or superphosphate are suitable. For watering, it is necessary to prepare a solution according to the following rules.
Dissolve one teaspoon of the selected fertilizer in 200 ml of warm water.
Then pour the concentrate into a bucket filled with 10 liters of ordinary water.
Mix thoroughly again.
It is recommended to pour at least 3-4 liters of fertilizer under each bush.
Diseases and pests
Voodoo is a variety that is quite resistant to various diseases and pest attacks. But if the conditions of agricultural technology are not followed, the rose can be affected by gray rot or powdery mildew. In the first case, dark gray spots appear on the leaves, which not only weaken the plant, but also make it unattractive. Powdery mildew also appears on leaves and flowers as a white-gray coating.
In order to get rid of diseases, it is necessary to treat the bushes with fungicides. The most effective are Topaz and Fitosporin-M. To prevent the development of ailments, it is necessary to remove and burn fallen leaves in a timely manner.
The most common pests that attack rose bushes are: weevils, leafhoppers, spider mites, and aphids. In most cases, it is recommended to get rid of the affected shoots, as well as to carry out additional processing with special solutions.
To get rid of spider mites, drugs from the acaricide category are suitable. Ascaris are afraid of insecticides. Moreover, the processing should be carried out in two stages, with an interval of 14 days.
Aphids can be fought with ladybirds. These insects must be caught on site and planted on rose bushes. They feed on aphids, so the pest will soon leave its place of deployment.
If you follow all the conditions, then you can grow several rose bushes on your garden plot, use them as a decor or hedge.
