Among hybrid tea varieties of roses, snow-white varieties look especially spectacular, and the Boeing variety is the brightest representative of this category. A wonderful cut-off variety, it impresses with its magnificent flowering, exquisite classical petal shape and large-sized flowers. This is a quality crop with fairly high endurance rates.
Breeding history of the variety
The origin of the variety belongs to the breeders of the Terra Nigra company from the Netherlands.
Description of the variety
The original name Boeing is somewhat justified by the appearance of the buds, whose elongated shape against the background of dark green foliage resembles swift and snow-white air liners. Semi-spreading vigorous shrubs reach a height of 80-90 cm and up to 120 cm and 70-90 cm in diameter. Perfectly even, straight shoots are covered with glossy dark green foliage, mottled along the edges with small notches. The central and lateral veins are clearly visible on the leaf plate, the seamy side is slightly lighter than the front.
Large (up to 12 cm) dense double flowers are snow-white. Closer to the center, cream shades appear, graphically emphasizing the shape of slightly pointed petals. The number of inflorescences on the stems is no more than one, the flowers are distinguished by a delicate and subtle aroma. The number of petals reaches 55, the buds are dense.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like all other varieties of roses, Boeing has many positive qualities, but not without its drawbacks.
Advantages of the variety:
unpretentiousness;
strong immunity;
good frost resistance;
tendency to re-bloom;
straight shoots are ideal for cutting;
a wide range of landscape applications;
the duration of the preservation of the freshness of the buds in the cut;
the possibility of growing in the middle lane and southern Siberia;
high decorative qualities and attractive appearance.
Among the disadvantages, there is a decrease in immunity during a prolonged cold snap with high humidity. Bad weather negatively affects the flowering and quality of the flowers themselves. Drought and extreme heat can damage the surface and shape of the petals. There are thorns on the stems.
Flowering features
The rose blooms for a long time from June to November in warm regions. This is facilitated by the long retention of buds and inflorescences on the stem, as well as the tendency to re-flowering. If in June the flowering is still weak, as if the plant is gaining strength, then by the end of summer it comes into full power and continues continuously until the end of the vegetative season.
Use in landscape design
The tea-hybrid group is designed to create bouquet compositions, use in decorating the surrounding space. Boeing's decorativeness makes it highly demanded in this direction. Bushes are planted as curb elements, used in group and single plantings in private and public areas. The variety is popular for urban landscaping in parks and squares, in squares and adjacent territories of administrative buildings and shopping and entertainment centers. Boeing is planted along alleys, soloist in flower beds and in rose gardens.The culture is good for zoning secluded recreation areas: gazebos, terraces, verandas, open sun decks. Large snow-white flowers are ideally combined with any colors of the surrounding landscape, but ideal companions are pure and rich reds, blacks, blues.
Growing regions
Boeing's frost resistance zone is USDA 5, where the temperature in the winter season drops to minus 23-29ºC. Rose adapts well in temperate climates, is common in the middle lane, not to mention warmer regions. Over time, the variety has mastered southern and southwestern Siberia.
Landing
In the southern regions for Boeing, you should choose places with partial shade. This is due to the fact that the inflorescences do not tolerate prolonged exposure to hot sunlight. In more temperate climates, open spaces with good illumination are preferred for the cultivar.
Rose prefers fertile chernozem soils, rich in humus and organic matter. In this case, the soil should have a loose structure with a good degree of air permeability and drainage. The ideal acidity level is neutral or slightly acidic.
The optimal scheme in group plantings: the distance between the holes is 1-1.5 m. Organic matter (humus, compost, manure) is added to each hole, peat, coarse-grained river sand, complex mineral fertilizers for roses and superphosphate are added. When planting, the vaccination site is left 2-3 cm below the surface.
Saplings are planted in spring and autumn. The latter option is most preferable, since the rose has a long period of entry into the growing season. Plants planted in autumn begin to grow small roots rather quickly, actively forming a root system. In the spring, such a seedling, together with everyone else, will enter into full-fledged development and this year will grow a powerful dense bush.
The April planting is guaranteed to provide a significant lag in cultural development of at least 2 weeks. The seedling will need time to adapt, build up roots, and only then does it begin to form a bush and buds. However, there is nothing to worry about if the autumn planting is impossible for some reason. Next year, a full-fledged Boeing bush will flaunt in the garden.
Growing and care
After planting, the Boeing hybrid tea is looked after using standard agricultural techniques, which include watering and weeding, loosening and mulching, feeding and pruning, as well as preparing for the winter season. Weeding free crops from competitors for nutrients, and mulching helps prevent moisture evaporation and inhibits weed growth.
Watering and feeding
Young plants need regular irrigation, and drip irrigation is ideal. Rose leaves do not tolerate contact with water, therefore, watering is carried out at the root in quiet morning or evening hours. At the same time, it is necessary to monitor the level of soil moisture - the culture loves moderate moisture, and does not tolerate stagnant water well. In rainy weather, watering is canceled.
Top dressing is carried out in several stages:
nitrogen fertilizers are applied in early spring;
in the summer, the culture needs potassium-phosphorus compounds;
in the fall, potash fertilizers are applied, and the trunks are covered with humus.
In addition to this complex, the rose is fed several times a season with mullein infusion.
Pruning
Cuttings are used of two types: forming and sanitary. The first are designed to give the bush a neat and attractive outline. The stems that are too long and protruding beyond the general contour are removed, the upper part of the strong shoots is shortened by 10-15 cm, the late basal shoots are cut in the fall. During sanitary pruning, old and sick, as well as dry and damaged stems are cut out.
During preparation for winter, the rose is cut almost to the base, an air shelter is organized above it, and spruce branches are placed on top of it and covered with agrofibre. This technique will allow you to avoid damping, and for a rose, as you know, it is much more dangerous than frost.
