White roses are ideal for creating Old English style parks. Variety Blank Meyandekor is suitable for creating flower arrangements in landscape design, will be a great accent. The culture is distinguished by unpretentious care, beautiful and long flowering.
Breeding history of the variety
The variety was bred in France by the Meilland breeding company in 1987. Belongs to the group of ground cover. Has several names:
Blanc Meillandecor;
MEIcoublan;
White Meidiland;
White Meilland;
Super Swany.
Suitable for creating bouquet arrangements, growing in parks and private areas.
Description of the variety
The bush is dense and very branchy, its height is not so great when compared with other varieties of roses, only 50-60 cm.In regions with a warm climate and long summer, the shoots can stretch up to 90 cm.
The width of the spreading crown is 80 cm. The shoots of the bush are thick, gradually becoming more rigid and have a pale green color. They are also abundantly covered with numerous pale spines that are quite sharp. Therefore, it is best to handle the bushes with Blank Meyandecor with thick gloves.
The leaves are large, glossy, of a typical shape, with a serrated edging.
The flowers are rosette-shaped. They are quite large, with a diameter of 10-12 cm. The color of the bud is white, it is pale in saturation. There is no variegation and two-color.
The flower belongs to the densely double type. The number of petals in a bud is 70-80 pieces. On one stem, from 10 to 15 flowers are formed, all of them have a multi-flowered inflorescence. The aroma is weak, barely perceptible.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantage of the variety is that it is frost-resistant. At the same time, the bush has good rain tolerance. Petals practically do not suffer from heavy rainfall.
The brightness of the flowers attracts attention. It is for the pure white color that the culture is often chosen in flower arrangements.
The variety has a relatively good immunity to a number of fungal diseases (black spot, powdery mildew).
Among the disadvantages, it is noted that it will be necessary to carefully choose a landing site. The culture does not like too dark areas, but at the same time it cannot stay in the open sun for a long time.
Constant pruning is necessary, otherwise insects or fungus may appear.
Flowering features
Rosa Blanc Meyandecor is a representative of multi-flowering crops. The flowering period begins in June and lasts until October.
The first flowering is always more abundant than the repeated ones. Due to the large buds, the foliage on the bush is practically invisible.
Re-flowering occurs only when the previous faded buds have been cut.
Use in landscape design
The variety is very often used in landscape design, giving a sophisticated touch to any composition.
Flowers can be planted along paths, in flower beds and in large flowerpots. And also suitable as a decor for alpine slides.
In bouquets, in addition to roses, companion flowers are often used: irises, bells, daisies and thuja branches.
Landing
The landing site should be chosen open, but at the same time slightly shaded.Do not plant next to fruit-bearing trees, as they will cast too much shadow.
Avoid direct sun exposure to the bush. Not only rose petals will suffer from this, but also leaves, which can get burned and begin to curl up into a tube.
Sapling selection also plays an important role. Its root system should be slightly branched, leaves without spots and darkening, and all shoots should be strong and dense.
Before planting, the seedling is slightly pruned, only 3-5 buds must be left. Rotten roots are also removed.
Immediately the night before planting, the seedling is dipped in a special solution of "Kornevin", but for no more than 12 hours. After that, the roots are soaked in wet clay, in which cow dung was diluted.
On the selected site, it is necessary to dig a hole, which has the proportions of 60x50x70 cm. It is necessary that there are no more than 5 plants per 1 m2.
At the bottom of the hole, drainage is poured from broken bricks, small stones, rubble or pebbles. The drainage is filled with fertile soil and a small amount of fertilizer.
The pit is prepared in advance, approximately 2 weeks in advance.
Planting must be done carefully, the seedling must be lowered gradually, straightening all the roots. The root collar should be deepened 4 cm below the soil layer. Everything is covered with earth, and carefully compacted, and then plentifully spilled with water.
Growing and care
You can grow a rose not only by seedlings, but also by seed. The seed option is more difficult, as it requires not only a lot of time, but also experience.
The seeds of roses are somewhat similar to buckwheat, brown and just as voluminous.
Seed material is pre-treated in hydrogen peroxide before planting. Seeds are sown in seedling boxes and germinate to a height of 15-20 cm. The new bush should have several powerful shoots and leaves. It is necessary to transplant the seedling until the first buds begin to tie.
Subsequent care for the bush should include:
watering;
top dressing;
loosening the soil;
pruning;
preparation for winter;
preventive spraying.
Watering and feeding
Watering is carried out 1-2 times a week, depending on weather conditions and the availability of mulch. And it is also necessary to correctly select other flowers in the flower bed so that everyone has an equal watering regime. The rose does not like too wet soil.
Top dressing includes nitrogen, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. You can also use wood ash and poultry manure solution.
Pruning
Pruning is carried out strictly in the allotted time. In the spring, all broken and frozen shoots are removed. In the summer, the bush is shortened, the faded buds are cut off, and shoots that have begun to grow horizontally are also removed. In autumn, all the foliage, all the buds are removed, and the bushes are also slightly trimmed, so that it is easier to cover it with agrofibre.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
The bush can withstand frosts down to -40 ° C. But it is best to create favorable conditions for the bush so that it can really overwinter the winter. For this, spruce needles must be laid at the base of the stems. It is covered with a small layer of sand, and spruce branches are placed on top. All shoots are carefully removed from the supports and placed on spruce branches. Do not put the shoots on bare ground, they can freeze, and insects can also damage them.
Then everything is covered with agrofibre and film.
Diseases and pests
Most often, the Blanc Meyandecor rose is attacked by gray rot. First of all, it affects the buds, covering them with a white bloom. To combat it, Glyocladin tablets are chosen. They must be placed under the plant at the beginning of the season and at the end.
After removing the cover, a bright red ring may appear on the shoots, which is called an infectious burn. Over time, it will begin to blacken, and the shoot will die off.To prevent the spread of the disease, the stem is shortened to a healthy part. The cut should be treated with RanNet.
The most common pests are:
aphid;
Chafer;
penny.
They are removed manually.
