Climbing roses occupy a special place among summer residents. Rosa Bayazzo is unpretentious in care, has abundant flowering, and also always goes well with other plants or flowers.
Description of the variety
The variety was bred by German breeders in 2001. Another name for this culture is Bajazzo. The plant belongs to the climbing group. Ideal for hedges, group plantings of roses or alpine slides.
The bush is formed large. Shoots are tall, 220 cm high, powerful, spreading. Over time, they become more numb. The girth of the bush is 100 cm. The leaves are medium and large. They are green in color, smooth and glossy, with a serrated edge.
The flowers are large, the diameter is from 7 to 9 cm. The shape is wide-cupped. The main color is pink. Additional shades may be present on the buds: deep pink with a silvery back, while the center has yellow petals. Over time, everything gradually fades in the sun, acquiring a light pink tint.
The variety belongs to the semi-double type, the flower is formed with a small number of petals. On average, there are 9 to 16 of them. The number of flowers on the stem is 3-5. They have a faint, subtle scent.
Advantages and disadvantages
Bayazzo's rose has a good immunity to a number of fungal diseases, which is why this variety is so popular with novice summer residents. Since the rose is climbing, it can easily be removed for the winter under cover, only the shoots should be cut a little beforehand. Abundant flowering is also a positive trait.
Among the disadvantages, it can be noted that with improper care, flowering may be delayed or not at all. The bush needs good nutrition, and if it is not enough from the soil, then it is best to feed it with a complex of minerals.
Flowering features
The culture is referred to as re-flowering, therefore, the formation of buds occurs in several stages.
The first and profuse flowering occurs in June. Then, after the faded flowers have been removed, the second wave of flowering begins, but it will be a little more modest. In warm regions, a third wave is also possible, since there is a long warm summer. On average, the flowering period lasts from June to September.
Use in landscape design
Rosa Bayazzo is ideal for decorating hedges, arches and gazebos. And you can also use a bush for single and group plantings. The flower will look perfect in a composition with other roses or conifers. This look is not quite suitable for creating bouquets.
Growing regions
Since the frost resistance of the culture is average, it is recommended to grow a rose in central Russia and in the south.
Landing
You must first prepare a place for planting. The soil should be fertile, rich in organic matter and allow moisture to pass through well enough. It is best to choose a place that is sunny, but not quite open. Otherwise, foliage and petals can get burned from long exposure to the sun.
The pit should have proportions of 50x50 cm, the distance from large trees should be at least 50-60 cm.
At the bottom of the hole, drainage is laid out with a height of 8 to 10 cm.For this, broken brick, pebbles, small stones or expanded clay are suitable. It is also worth knowing the composition of the soil: it should be slightly acidic and not very clayey. If there is too much clay, then it should be mixed with sand, then the moisture will not linger for too long. A mixture of earth and compost is laid out on the drainage and a small slide is formed.
At this time, the seedling is being prepared. Its roots are examined for fungus. If everything is in order, then the roots can be dipped for a while in a weak solution with growth stimulants. The hole is plentifully shed before planting, wait until the moisture is absorbed, and only then the seedling is lowered. It is necessary to ensure that the roots do not break and correct them carefully.
After everything is covered with earth, the soil is again plentifully spilled with water and compacted a little.
Growing and care
Agrotechnical care for the Bayazzo rose does not cause any difficulties. Even a novice gardener can handle this variety. The care procedures include:
- watering (1-2 times a week);
- top dressing (twice a season);
- loosening the soil and removing weeds:
- mulching;
- forming and trimming;
- preparation for winter;
- preventive work.
Pruning
Pruning is done in spring and autumn. In the spring, sanitary pruning is carried out, in the fall the main shoots are shortened by 10-15 cm, and the lateral ones are pruned to 5 buds per stem.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Although the originators stated that the frost resistance of the variety is high (up to -23 ° degrees), a shelter is still recommended. For this, spruce branches are suitable, you also need mulch. The area around the bush is laid out with mulch. Shoots are folded on it, and from above everything is covered first with spruce branches, and then with a covering non-woven coating. Sawdust or straw are suitable for mulch. The layer must be at least 15 cm high.
