Among the many types of white roses, the Avalange variety is deservedly a reference option. Its immaculately white petals, giving off an unobtrusive and mysterious aroma, the beauty and elegance of large flowers have conquered millions of women's hearts.
Breeding history of the variety
This famous flower crop comes from the Netherlands, it was bred by the equally famous breeder Lex Wurn in 2004. In the international flower market, the variety is usually called Avalanche. Its other name is also popular - Lexani, which is consonant with the author's name.
Description of the variety
Now there are several varieties of the variety, which belong to the bush tea-hybrid species. All these types are intended for cutting, used both in single and in group plantings on flower beds and borders. The culture is heat-resistant, capable of tolerating rainy weather relatively easily.
Avalange has a wonderful appearance, snow-white flower petals and a light, unobtrusive aroma cause delight and admiration in women. A rose is grown in the suburbs and many southern regions.
Advantages and disadvantages
Of the advantages of Avalange, it is worth noting:
high degree of marketability;
compactness of bushes;
large bud sizes;
long flowering time;
a good level of winter hardiness of the plant (up to -30 ° C);
the ability to re-bloom;
relatively good level of resistance to black spot and powdery mildew disease;
culture resistance to rain;
ability to withstand hot weather;
exquisite aroma of flowers;
high recovery potential during transplants and after the winter period;
the ability to stay in containers with water for a long time without losing its wonderful qualities;
color stability during flowering.
Minuses:
the need to shelter bushes in cool regions;
exactingness to the care process.
Flowering features
Being a re-flowering rose, being grafted, already at the age of two it is able to demonstrate high-quality flowering. Flowering time is from June to November. Abundant flowering.
Flowers are in a state of half-release for a short time - the opening process takes place soon. However, already in the open state, they are able to keep their shape for a long time. Flowering starts in early June and continues until cold weather appears.
Bushes have strong, straight, moderately spreading shoots with few thorns. Well-leafed bushes reach a height of 80 cm, and a width of about 50 cm. Leaves of a dark green color, with matte and smooth plates, harmoniously complement the beauty of the flowers.
Usually 1 bud is formed on the stems with a pleasant red-green tint on the outer petals. The general color of the flowers is transparent white with a light dark green border. The configuration of the buds is classic, conical. The size of the flowers in diameter is up to 13 cm, and the number of formed petals is about 40. The type of flowers is medium-double. In the process of development, the lower petals are slightly bent downward. At the final opening of the cup-shaped flowers, a yellowish middle appears.
Use in landscape design
Due to its qualities, the Avalange variety is in great demand among both florists and landscape designers. Roses look great in creative compositions, giving creations a unique and memorable look. Rose hedges decorate the plots beautifully. The rose is harmoniously combined with other flowers, looks extremely impressive on even lawns.
Landing
Usually the culture is planted in April-October, choosing places with good lighting and no drafts. The soils are acidic (acidity - 5.6-7.3). To reduce the level of acidity, additives from ash or lime are added to the soil. Clay soils require the introduction of sand, humus and peat. The soils must be well aerated. Drainage of the landing grooves is required. The occurrence of groundwater is at least 1 m to the edge of the ground. The landing grooves are prepared with a depth of about 60 cm.
Step-by-step disembarkation algorithm:
preparation of landing grooves;
placement of drainage (crushed stone) in them;
adding organic fertilizers (manure or peat) and garden soil;
place the seedlings in the pits, straightening the roots, cover them with soil and irrigate.
Before planting the seedlings, they are kept in water for 3-5 hours using growth stimulants.
Growing and care
In general, the process of caring for Avalange is typical. Bushes need systematic irrigation, loosening and weeding. Fertilization and preventive procedures that protect plants from pest attacks are mandatory. In the course of growing Avalange, it is important to take into account a number of seasonal characteristics, which will be indicated below.
Watering and feeding
Irrigation of rose bushes is carried out at least 1 time in 7 days, in moderate volumes - the culture does not tolerate stagnation of moisture. Watering with cold water is unacceptable - it should be defended. Irrigation stops in autumn.
Bushes respond well to feeding, in which it is important to combine organic matter and mineral fertilizers. In the spring, the bushes are given nitrogenous compounds, in the summer - potash and phosphorus, which improve the quality of flowering. Biohumus and humus are used from organic matter.
During weeding, it is recommended to be guided by a number of rules:
annual weeds are removed before they have seeds;
during the procedure, contact with the stems of roses should be avoided, and also not to go deeper near the bushes into the ground by more than 3 cm;
the weeding procedure should be organized on dry days.
Pruning
Pruning is a useful and health-improving activity for bushes, contributing to their more intensive and painless development.
In the spring, before the start of sap flow, the bushes require corrective pruning of shoots, freeing the plants from shrunken, excessively elongated, underdeveloped, stiff and recovered shoots. At the same time, fresh shoots are also shortened (by 3-5 buds). Before the onset of cold weather (at the end of October), winter pruning is carried out, in which leaves, unripe shoots and buds are removed from the bushes.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Avalange's frost resistance is good. Nevertheless, in cool regions, the autumn shelter of the bushes is carried out, without which they cannot withstand severe frosts. For this purpose, the stems of the bushes are covered (spud) to a height of 20-30 cm with peat or soil, and a covering cloth is placed on top (you can use a film) or covered with peat, spruce branches, sawdust. Often, special frames are constructed for plants, which are then covered with insulation. In the early spring, the shelters are removed.
Relatively good cold tolerance is characteristic of a rose in the presence of sufficient snow cover.
Diseases and pests
Under the conditions of a well-chosen planting site and proper agricultural care, the culture willingly demonstrates a high immune potential against powdery mildew, black spot, other diseases and pest attacks.
The necessary professional procedures are carried out in a typical way and with standard preparations, including folk remedies. So, insecticides are useful against bronzes, spider mites, aphids, leafworms, bear and others. Abundant rains are badly reflected on the bushes - the flowers turn black, or pinkish spots appear on them.
Reproduction
For propagation of the culture, cuttings obtained from young, but healthy and strong shoots are used. The seeds of this type of rose rarely lend themselves to germination under normal conditions.Cuttings are picked immediately after the end of the first flowering cycle, as well as during pruning. The stalks of the cuttings must be strong. They must be planted immediately in the ground or in containers (to obtain seedlings in the spring).
