This rose got its name when the active ingredient of aspirin from Bayer AG turned 100 years old. This sturdy and healthy ground cover rose will adorn not only garden beds and borders, but also large pots and containers, gazebos, balconies and terraces. She surprises with her richness of flowers.

Breeding history of the variety

Rose Aspirin was first bred in 1989 in Germany by Hans Jürgen Evers. He was a renowned rose breeder who first started working for Rosen Tantau in the early 1960s and then took over the company in 1985 and managed it until he passed away in 2007. Rose Aspirin was created by crossing Fairy rose with an unnamed PT 83-350 variety. The result is a simple yet very beautiful white rose with delicate shades of pink at the edges of the petals.

Description of the variety

Rose Aspirin is suitable for all plantings - it is an expressive and charming flower. Very profusely flowering variety with large, lush, white flowers in sunny weather and light pink in cooler weather, with good self-cleaning properties. The bush is lush, dense and well covered with healthy light green foliage, which is sometimes not even visible due to the splendor of the flowers. Its large flowers and dense foliage make this variety an ideal object for use on terraces and looks great in large pots. It is planted all over the world and has been very popular for many years.

The number of flowers on the stem does not exceed 10-15 units, the size of flowers varies within 6-8 centimeters. The height of the shrub can reach 60-80 centimeters, as well as in width. The aroma of this flower is practically absent.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of the Aspirin rose include its frost resistance - this variety is included in the list of the most persistent decorative varieties. Very easy to care for and completely unpretentious. Blooms magnificently all summer. The Aspirin rose variety is resistant to typical rose diseases, so black spot and powdery mildew are not at all for him. And also the flower is capable of self-cleaning - when the time comes, the petals crumble by themselves, which prevents the darkening of the flowers.

The only disadvantage can be attributed to the lack of aroma, but not for everyone this will be a significant disadvantage.

Flowering features

The main features of the flowering of Aspirin are that it is a continuous-flowering variety of roses - its flowers are densely double, medium-sized, the number of snow-white petals in a bud is about 50-60 pieces. The variety blooms in June, blooms profusely throughout the summer season, before the onset of October cold snaps.

Use in landscape design

In landscape design, the snow-white rose of the Aspirin variety is used to form borders and flower alleys. The flower harmoniously complements other ornamental plants, it looks no less impressive in single plantings. The miniature size allows Aspirin to be grown in containers and pots. According to gardeners' reviews, the Aspirin rose has proven to be excellent in cutting. Bouquet compositions with this flower are filled with tenderness, and double flowers delight their owners, filling weekdays and holidays with sunny warmth, comfort and harmony.

Landing

Planting an Aspirin rose is quite easy, so even beginners in the gardening field can easily cope with it. If the seedling has already been purchased in a container, then the steps for planting will be as follows: it is worth digging a hole approximately twice the diameter of the container itself and the same depth. If the flowers were bought without a container, then first you need to soak the roots in warm water for a day. The hole should be as wide as the length of the longest roots of the plant, and the depth should match the size of the plant for the rose to fit. Next, place the flowers in a hole and bury them in half, then thoroughly moisten them with water and cover them with soil to the end. After that, you need to thoroughly water the soil again. You do not need to tamp it.

Growing and care

Probably the hardest part about growing roses will be choosing where to grow them. Everything else that follows after planting it will be easier than ever, even for those who have started floriculture for the first time.

Roses require a lot of sunlight to grow well and this variety is no exception. It is worth choosing a place where the sun shines for at least 6-8 hours a day. The soil must be well drained. There are also a large number of potting mixes available on the commercial market these days, many of which are designed specifically for roses. This is an important part of growing roses and choosing the right growing medium will help you get the most out of your Aspirin.

Caring for an Aspirin rose is also not very difficult. You will need to make sure the roses are provided with enough water and nutrients. For most climates, this is approximately one deep watering per week. If the climate is hot, it is best to check the roses every 4 days.

Pruning

Pruning Aspirin roses is best planned in the very early spring, after the weather gets warmer but before the flowers bloom, which will make pruning much easier. It is best to start by removing the dead parts. The next step is to trim off any overlapping lateral stems as they can block the sunlight after all the flowers have bloomed. Finally, the remaining stems need to be cut back about a third of their current height to stimulate new growth.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

As already known, the Aspirin rose is quite frost-hardy, and it can survive the winter even under a thin cover. To start preparing roses for the winter, it is worth starting with a gradual decrease in soil moisture. In general, roses are hardy and shelter is only required in very cold winters.

Reproduction

There are several ways to propagate Aspirin roses.

Cuttings. The advantage will be that in this way you can propagate the rose at any time of the year. To do this, you need to cut off the largest shoots, since they will be stronger than the rest. Next, they need to be cut into cuttings, where there will be 3-4 buds. After that, they need to be rooted, and after the roots appear, transplantation into permanent soil follows.

Layers. In this way, bushes only with powerful shoots reproduce. The shoot is tilted and placed in a small hole under a thin layer of earth, after which it must be constantly moistened. Further, as with grafting, after the first roots, you can transplant to the main place.

Division of the bush. This method of propagation is only carried out in the spring and is suitable for sufficiently mature plants.
