Breeding history of the variety
Rose Arabia was bred by breeder Christian Evers from Germany in 2001. The first name is RT 01-366. Introduced by Rosen-Tantau nursery in 2010
Description of the variety
Arabia rose bushes are strong, formed from long erect stems, reach a height of 120-150 cm with a width of up to 1 m. The leaves on the shoots are dark green, shiny. In inflorescences, up to 5 buds are formed on the stem.
The main color of the rose is orange. The shape is cup-shaped, the corolla is large, semi-double, with a diameter of 8-10 cm. As the flowering progresses, the petals turn pale and become tender peach. The aroma is strong, spicy. The flowers are dense, collected in compact umbrellas, retain their decorative effect for a long time.
Advantages and disadvantages
Arabia roses are highly valued for their resistance to diseases, and their dense leaves are practically not damaged by insects. Also, the advantages include:
- slight waviness of the petals;
- general decorative effect of the bush;
- good rainfall tolerance;
- strong strong shoots.
Some disadvantage is the late entry of the variety into flowering. In cold climates, plants do not have time to move to the second wave of budding before the onset of frost.
Flowering features
The rose forms buds from June to September. Abundant flowering, in several waves.
Use in landscape design
Roses of this variety look great in group and single plantings, in mixborders. Suitable for planting several plants side by side without thickening. Arabia also looks impressive in hedges, Frisian walls and romantic herb gardens. This yellow-orange rose is good for oriental, Italian, French landscapes. In containers, it is placed in the design of terraces, patios, verandas.
Growing regions
The variety is aimed at growing in a warm enough climate. It feels best in the southern regions of Russia.
Landing
Plants are placed in the sun and in partial shade, in areas with fertile, loose and breathable soil, neutral or weak acidity is suitable. Planting in spring is carried out from March to May, in autumn from September to November. It is recommended to place 3-4 plants per 1 m2, with an interval of 50-60 cm between them.
Growing and care
Rose Arabia requires attention from the gardener. Plants need moderately moist soil. It is important not to allow stagnation of water on its surface, the formation of a hard crust. Loosening of the soil is carried out both after irrigation and at the end of the rainy period. In regions with low night temperatures, it is better to insulate the root zone with peat mulch.
Watering and feeding
Irrigation should be regular. In warm and dry weather, watering is carried out 2 times a week, with the introduction of 15-20 liters of water under each bush. Top dressing is also done on schedule.In the spring, the rose needs nitrogen, and in the summer, with the beginning of flowering, potassium and phosphorus. Top dressing is carried out at intervals of 2 weeks, until autumn.
Pruning
This measure of care should not be neglected either. In the spring, a rejuvenating pruning of the bush is performed. In summer - weak formative, in autumn - sanitary, preparing the rose for winter. The last bud after it should look outward from the center of the bush. In the summer, wilted inflorescences, as well as parts of the shoots affected by diseases, are removed.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
The variety is included in the USDA frost resistance zone 5. Shelter for the winter is required when atmospheric temperatures drop to -7 degrees Celsius or more.
Diseases and pests
Rose Arabia is well protected from most diseases. Strong immunity to black spot and powdery mildew.
Review overview
You can find many positive reviews from gardeners about the Arabia rose. They note the tendency of the variety to abundant bud formation. The shape of the flower, its slow opening, long-term preservation of beauty evokes admiration. The aroma of summer residents is estimated rather as close to oriental, rich and oily, with hints of spices. The reviews also mention that the plants tolerate rain well, do not rot.
It is especially noted that the rose begins to bloom in the interval between other varieties, it allows you to keep the garden decorative during periods when the early flowers have already departed. This advantage is noted by many gardeners. In addition, the variety easily tolerates the mistakes of novice growers in grooming, is not afraid of overflows or excessive feeding.
Rose Arabia has few minuses. Among them - weak frost resistance, as well as the preservation of flowers for only 4-5 days. In this case, it is quite difficult to admire the buds in the cut.
