Rose Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg deservedly bears the name of the cousin of the Queen of England. The blooming pet of English parks is readily used in landscape design. Impressive bushes with wonderful flowers look like a king on the site.

Breeding history of the variety

The scrub was created in honor of the 18th birthday of Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg. Under the same name, Kordes introduced a new variety in 2009. But the plant was introduced into culture back in 2000 as KO 00 / 1379-12 and KORjuknei.

Description of the variety

A vigorous bush grows delicate creamy pink buds with light green strokes. Cup-shaped densely double flowers of the same color have a dark pink center.

The flowers reach 10 cm in diameter and consist of 70-80 unusual petals. They resemble the wings of a butterfly. A half-open bud can be compared to a water lily. Flowers are arranged singly and 3-7 inflorescences per stem. They exude a pleasant, sweet aroma of medium intensity.

A powerful bush with tall erect shoots grows up to 120-150 cm and a width of 80 cm. Its decoration is not only flowers, but also dark green shiny leaves.

The modern shrub rose of this variety produces delicate and flexible shoots. They need support during the flowering period due to the severity of the large flowers.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of this variety are confirmed by numerous world awards. It has such an advantage as the ability to actively grow. Just a couple of plants per 1 m2 - and in 2 years during flowering, you can get a large blooming ball.

Alexandra Princess of Luxembourg has excellent planting performance in the realities of temperate or cold climates.

From the pros - the branches hold large flowers well. And the downside is that they fall on the ground, and the flowers get dirty. And also there is a fast flying around the petals.

Flowering features

A rose with a regal name blooms intensively and profusely for a long period. The variety pleases with beautiful roses several times per season. Repeated buds often grow even larger than primroses.

Use in landscape design

It is possible to grow a rose of this variety in a wide variety of plantings. In the neighborhood with her, it is advisable to choose plants of a rich color, contrasting with the tenderness of roses Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg. Styles when decorating plots can be very diverse.

Landing

The soil for shrubs needs to be chosen nutritious, slightly acidified, breathable, and does not retain excess water. For this purpose, chernozem soil or fertilized loam enriched with peat is perfect. Lime or wood ash is mixed into too acidic soil.

Groundwater should lie closer than 1-1.5 meters from the surface. A suitable site would be a place in partial shade or in the sun. The sun's rays should not fall on the rose for less than 3-4 hours. And also it is necessary to arrange good drainage.

In winter, the place where roses grow should not be blown through by winds. It should be borne in mind that this variety of roses does not tolerate transplants well, so it is better to choose a suitable place right away. The best option is on a hillock, and the worst one is in the lowland. Cold air usually stagnates there, and roses often begin to ache.

Gardeners in the middle lane and to the north plant roses in the spring, as soon as the ground warms up, most often in April-May. Southerners plant them even in autumn so that they can take root before the frost.

Before planting, it is worth soaking open roots, you can in water or in a solution of a growth stimulant. Or dip them in a clay mess. If they are dry or damaged, they should be trimmed to healthy tissue.

A planting pit is prepared with a depth of 80–90 cm, a drainage layer is placed at the bottom, humus and compost are laid on top of it, and sprinkled with a hill of garden soil, on which the roots of the seedling are placed.

Gently compacting the soil, fill the hole so that the root collar goes deep into the ground by 3 cm. They make abundant watering and mulching.

Growing and care

The exquisite beauty rose grows well in the south, in the middle lane and even in Siberia. Taking care of her is no more difficult than other scrubs. In the first year of life in a permanent place, it is better to direct attention to the growth of roots. It is recommended to cut the buds.

Watering and feeding

With the beginning of the growing season, Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg is fed for the first time with nitrogen-containing fertilizers. In the future, it will have to be fertilized once every 2-3 weeks with complexes and vitamins. Usually they are diluted with water and poured directly under the bush, but after watering, so as not to burn the roots. The next day, the soil is carefully loosened.

At the end of September - at the beginning of October, feeding is stopped, allowing the rose to fully ripen.

Water the plant as the soil surface dries. Each plant requires 10 liters of water. In the hot period in the evening, it is recommended to spray the crops with warm, settled water. Correct watering is carried out in portions directly under the base of the bush.

Pruning

Pruning a bush rose is done regularly: in winter - in order to form a bush, in spring to remove damaged shoots, in summer - to correct and stimulate flowering. Pruning helps protect plants from many diseases and fungal infections.

Frost resistance and preparation for winter

Like all scrub roses, the Princess Alexandra Luxemburg rose withstands cold weather. In particularly cold climates, shelter from frost is required.

Before wintering, the bushes need hilling with earth with humus and shelter with spruce branches. To do this, you need to create a frame and cover it with lutrasil. When the temperature drops to -7 degrees Celsius or more, the shelter is completely closed.

Reproduction

The best way to propagate a rose of this variety is cuttings. The stems for the seedlings are cut as soon as the plant blooms for the first time. Cuttings are placed in a root growth stimulator for a day, and then rooted in the ground. With this reproduction, it is possible to preserve all the qualities characteristic of the variety.

Review overview

Gardeners who grow such roses note their high resistance to diseases and pests. And also the plant shows very good resistance to powdery mildew. And before black spot, plants are considered vulnerable.

In general, the variety is called very reliable and perfectly wintering. The bush only becomes more beautiful from year to year, acquiring a harmonious shape. Flowers do not react to rain.

In the period between two waves of flowering, individual flowers are usually preserved on the bush. The flowers of this rose can stand in water for a long time, so it can be planted not only for decorating the site, but also for cutting into bouquets.
