Description of the variety
The homeland of the Eisfogel variety is Germany. The hybrid tea variety was introduced in 2016. The name of the variety is translated from German as "kingfisher". This is a very beautiful bird, the color of which is partly due to the name of the flower.
Rose bushes grow up to 80–120 cm, there are no thorns on them. Plants are up to 50 cm wide, due to which they are compactly located on the site. The foliage of the bushes is rich green.
The flowers are very beautiful, mostly in cold colors. Shades can be cool pinks, lilacs, lilacs and lilacs. At the same time, the inner part of the rose is distinguished by a honey-peach warm color. This color is called "chameleon". The border of the petals is slightly lighter than the main tone.
Flowers are densely doubled, large. They are 10–12 cm in diameter. They are formed in inflorescences. Each stem can form 3 to 5 roses. The aroma of the Eisfogel variety is heady, very strong, with exotic floral notes.
Advantages and disadvantages
Rose Eisfogel has quite a few advantages:
- gorgeous flowers of nostalgic shape and unusual color;
- compact bush configuration;
- pronounced juicy aroma;
- the ability to grow both in the sun and in partial shade;
- drought resistance;
- profuse flowering without interruption.
Cons should also be noted:
- the variety needs constant attention of the summer resident;
- requires shelter for the winter, although winter hardiness is above average, but these indicators are far from always enough;
- very sensitive to rain;
- can be affected by fungi.
Flowering features
Abundant flowering can usually be expected in the second year after planting, in the first it will also be, but the flowers will grow small and solitary. In the south, plants bloom in May, and in temperate or cold regions in June. The process lasts until September.
The rose is re-flowering. The first flowering lasts a month, then the bush rests for 30 days. Then the second stage starts. During it, you should intensively look after the flower.
Individual flowers can form during dormancy, but only under good conditions and proper agricultural technology. The completion of flowering will be indicated by a change in the color of the petals to a faded one.
Use in landscape design
This variety is appropriate for gardens with any design. It can be classic, modern, or rustic. Plants look beautiful singly and in groups, and go well with many other colors. They are planted in flower beds and mixborders. The Eisfogel variety looks great against the backdrop of a bright green lawn.
Growing regions
A rose of this variety can be grown in the Moscow region, as well as in the southern regions. In other places outdoors, it may not take root. Or it should be cultivated in a closed rose garden.
Landing
Basically, the landing is carried out in April or May. In the fall, it is also possible, but it is important to do this early so that the plant acclimatizes. This is often done in warm regions.
Light nutritious soil is very important for a rose. It cannot be too wet soil or a place with a close adjoining groundwater. The soil reaction should be slightly acidic or neutral. It is recommended to place the bushes in partial shade or in places with diffused lighting. But they grow well in the sun.
Disembarkation takes place according to general recommendations. Before the procedure, it is important to keep the roses in Heteroauxin, then they are placed in the dug holes. The growing point is deepened by 3 cm, the plant is watered abundantly. An important point after planting is mulching.
Growing and caring
For several weeks after planting, the plants are watered moderately three times a week. In the future, it is worth irrigating 2 times in 7 days, spending 15–20 liters per bush. It is very important to stop watering during heavy rains. At the end of August, the amount of watering is strictly metered, and at the beginning of autumn it is worth stopping irrigating the roses.
Bushes of the first year can sometimes bloom, but it is better not to allow this. All buds that appear before August must be carefully removed from the bushes. In the last month of summer, 1 or 2 flowers are left on the shoots. So it is possible to achieve good wintering and lush flowering in the next season.
It is worth feeding roses systematically. In the spring, nitrogen fertilizers are applied for a quick set of green mass. The formation of flowers requires phosphorus and potassium, so in the summer it is worth feeding with these elements.
In the spring, formative pruning is carried out; for this, from 5 to 7 buds are left on each shoot. This rose blooms beautifully and looks very attractive. Also, in the spring, you should trim the tops and remove the frozen shoots. In summer, from time to time, the inflorescences that have already faded are removed, along with the upper part of the shoot. In the fall, they carry out a sanitary haircut to prepare for the winter.
Also, plants for good development will have to be hilled several times per season. Loosening the ground should also be done regularly.
Frost resistance and preparation for winter
Eisfogel roses grow well in the hardiness zone 6. They survive frosts down to -23 °. Do not cover the plants before the temperature reaches -7 °. Next, you can build a shelter. The cut bushes are covered with earth, covered with spruce branches. A frame shelter is erected with insulating material and plastic wrap. In March, they begin to gradually air the shelter, and the film should be removed early, otherwise the shelter will turn into a greenhouse.
Diseases and pests
The resistance to fungal diseases in the variety is above average, but if you plant the bushes in the wrong place and water them more often than necessary, the fungus will not be long in coming. Especially often this variety is affected by black spot. Cases of infection with powdery mildew will not be too rare.
Plants can be parasitized by aphids, sawflies and spider mites. Very often they appear where there are a lot of weeds. You can get rid of insects with insecticides.
Reproduction
This rose can be propagated by cuttings, in general this is the only way, since with other methods valuable varietal characteristics may disappear. Cuttings should be taken from young bushes, the strongest should be chosen. The material is cut after the first stage of flowering.
Review overview
Eisfogel deserves many positive ratings. Among the advantages of the variety, summer residents especially note the beautiful shape of the flowers, painted in an interesting cool range. Many people also like the fact that the middle contrasts with the main shade of the petals. Flowers are highly decorative, appropriate in any area.
The variety is criticized for its poor resistance to rain. In case of precipitation, the flowers do not open. In addition, not all summer residents are ready to pay much attention to demanding and capricious flowers, to build a shelter for the winter.
