Abracadabra is a magic word attributed to the ability to heal plant allergies. In Dahl's dictionary, it has a sacred meaning - it is a conspiracy that is worn on the chest in an amulet. In the modern interpretation, it is a random set of signs or symbols that have no meaning. Rose Abracadabra is an ornamental culture, a picturesque attribute of landscape design with variegated flowers. Their main dominant background is strewn with whimsical blotches of other shades, varied, giving the impression of being accidentally sprayed by the artist's brush.
Breeding history of the variety
Abracadabra is a name used to refer to three forms.
The hybrid tea was grown in California by crossing the White Masterpiece and Tribute varieties. The work of the breeder W. Warriner instantly attracted the attention of specialists and was soon presented to the attention of rose lovers at a flower exhibition. The other two floribunda-themed variations are grown in Germany.
In some sources, it is described exclusively as a hybrid tea variety obtained in California, with large combinations of contrasting colors - brown with yellow, red with pink, raspberry and white. There is also a more limited representation - two color options, the color is moderately variegated. It is expressed by blotches and patterns on the petals. The most complete description is the chaotic-symbolic color of the inflorescences, which give a bright ornament on the bush, since flowers of different colors can bloom on the same bush. For rose lovers, suffice it to say that Abracadabra is somewhat reminiscent of the Hocus Pocus, only it is striped rather than ornamental, and of a more intense color scheme.
The similarity is not accidental - Abracadabra 2002 was obtained from a random mutation of this particular cut rose in the world-famous German nursery.
Description of the variety
Rose Abracadabra 2002 has some similarities with other floribundas of German selection, but it also has features that make it a separate variety. It:
compact upright bush with strong stems;
it grows no higher than 70 cm in height and no more than half a meter in a circle;
shoots with abundant leaves, firm, with a moderate number of thorns;
leaves are rounded, with a pointed end, along the edges are bright green plates with finely cut teeth;
Growth and visual characteristics allow experts to classify this variety of German floribunda as patio roses or curb varieties. Florists classify it as a cut-off variety, note heat resistance and resistance to cold winters. The ability to bloom repeatedly in one season, resistance to pests and diseases, decorativeness and abundance of flowering are a sufficient list of advantages that compensate for a weak, in the opinion of especially picky connoisseurs, but a delicate and refined aroma.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantage of any varietal plant is that it can be grown for a variety of purposes.In the northern regions, abracadabra is an excellent option for greenhouse cultivation and cutting into bouquets, for sale for commercial purposes.
Observance of correct agricultural techniques allows in regions with a mild climate to achieve repeated flowering per season, to create picturesque corners and landscapes. Among the shortcomings are listed:
aging, the need to cut off old branches every three years;
a tendency to individualism - nothing can be planted at a distance of 0.5-1 m from it;
the need for lighting (especially in greenhouse cultivation), the light should be at least a third of the day.
The high cost of these roses in the creation of floristic compositions is noted - they are more persistent and much more picturesque than standard options. In the southern regions, amateurs decorate flower beds, rockeries, front gardens, rockeries.
Flowering features
Blooming in the open field certainly requires the correct placement of the bushes. The buds may not appear from insufficient light, permanent drafts, a small amount of nutrients in the soil, unpleasant neighbors, insufficient or excessive watering.
Observance of all conditions will allow to receive flowers in the greenhouse year-round, and this is a rather profitable business in a harsh climate, where people highly value a beautiful and living plant donated by nature. On the site, in the open field:
the first buds bloom at the beginning of summer, and the last ones - just before the frost;
the flowers are not dense, but with a large number of velvety petals, arranged in a bowl shape;
they are with pointed tips, slightly tucked up (as if they were decorated by the hand of a master);
the buds are in the form of a glass, usually one (less often - several pieces in the inflorescence), with a combined color, the color range - from red and burgundy to purple, with light blotches - white, cream, sunny yellow.
Color is not the only method that nature uses to create an irresistible, unique experience. The viewer sees stripes, strokes, spots, a smooth flow of one tone into another, dots and specks located chaotically and asymmetrically. You cannot find two identical roses, each one is unique and striking.
Use in landscape design
Fans of the plant are sure that the place of the Abracadabra rose is on a separate pedestal, in the rose garden, and in the center. Nearby, at a specified distance, you can plant other shrubs of different color shades. They should not be small or bushy. Best of all - on straight lines, flat or gently sloping surfaces - along paths and transparent wrought-iron hedges. They are planted in ridges and rockeries, on green lawns, where they are indescribably picturesque, and neither weeds nor other flowering plants interfere with beauty.
Abracadabra should be separated from fruit trees and shrubs at a distance of at least one and a half meters, but it can be safely combined with euonymus, tamarisk, yellow acacia and cotoneaster.
Landing
The place is chosen taking into account the climate. In temperate climates, the rose needs good illumination and protection from drafts and gusts of wind. In southern climates, it is better to plant where there is an openwork partial shade for most of the day. The situation is similar with the disembarkation time. In northern areas, it is planted in the spring; in warm climates, it is possible in both spring and autumn. Having purchased a seedling in a good nursery, it is planted in a shallow hole, after soaking the roots in a growth stimulator. Drainage is required at the bottom, fertilizers and watering during planting are welcome.
Growing and care
The plant responds gratefully to standard care measures - top dressing, moderate watering, timely pruning and rejuvenation every three years. For the winter, a shelter is erected for roses, especially if winters are with severe frosts. Prevention of attacks of pests and diseases is mandatory - spraying and tillage. Removing dried flowers greatly increases the likelihood of new ones appearing. Forcing flowers for cutting in a greenhouse can be carried out almost all year round, but care for the plants will have to be increased.
