Those who have enough space, good imagination and non-standard taste can enliven their interior with a product made of rails (buffels). This technique attracts attention, helps to zone the room. Decorative strips not only decorate the walls, they are used to build light partitions, permeated with air and light.

Advantages and disadvantages

The slatted material amazingly transforms the wall, transforming an inconspicuous surface into a spectacular decorative object. Designers are attracted to planks because they are capable of adjusting, changing and ennobling the environment. The advantage of the material lies in its effect on the interior.

  • The presence of slats is easy to denote modern or eco-design. In the classical and historical trends, they are actually not used.
  • If you need to create a geometrically strict interior, a large wall is chosen for the slatted theme. Rhythmically repetitive buffels in massive numbers create a sense of order, stability and completeness.
  • Another advantage of planks in adjusting rooms is their ability to "stretch" space and "raise" ceilings. To do this, the decor lines should be placed vertically. If you need to visually reduce the height of the room, the planks on the wall are laid out horizontally.
  • With the help of contrasting slatted decor, you can highlight the work, children's or dining area.
  • Focusedly decorated buffels can redirect the view to the TV, paintings on the wall, headboard.
  • The use of slats gives the interior lightness and airiness. The decoration of the planks with rhinestones, stones, narrow mirrored surfaces helps to enhance the extravagance. Lighting strips installed between the buffels further enrich the decorated wall and deepen the zoning effect.
  • The next advantage of graceful wooden slats is the ability to "pacify" the brutality of concrete, stone, brick, with which some interiors are oversaturated. In contrast, warm and refined woods stabilize the visual perception of rough surroundings.
  • Bafelli perfectly manipulate space with complex geometry, irregular proportions. The slats, laid in a certain way, level and streamline the chaotic atmosphere of the room.
  • The slatted structure also easily hides all the flaws in the walls.

Unfortunately, in addition to the pluses, there are also several disadvantages of the plank decor:

  • it does not suit every style of interior;
  • slatted finish "eats up" part of the space, so it is rarely used in small rooms;
  • dust accumulates in the gaps between the boards, and therefore the decorative object requires special care.

Materials (edit)

For the interior decoration of the house, warm natural materials are more suitable - wood or products substituting for it from MDF, chipboard. Metal slats are used in the design of interiors with an industrial or urban bias.

Wooden

Wooden wall slats are the most successful for creating a spectacular and cozy interior. The wood is warm and tactilely pleasant, it is environmentally friendly and modulates good energy. Wall-mounted buffels come in a wide variety of patterns and colors, allowing them to be matched to any design.

The disadvantage of wood is its responsiveness to moisture and high temperatures. In one case, it swells, in the other, it dries up and cracks.

To avoid this, you should not decorate the bathroom surfaces or walls equipped with radiators with planks.

It should be noted that only cheap soft varieties of trees, for example, pine, spruce, are sensitive to temperature changes and moisture. The higher the hardness of wood, the more resistant it is to drying out, swelling, mechanical stress. Our ancestors built ships from wood and nothing happened to them in the water. And today you can find designer bathtubs made of solid wood in expensive interiors.

The hardest tree species are found in equatorial climates. From domestic varieties, you can choose materials from oak, beech, Karelian birch, acacia. Larch is also worth paying attention to. Over the years, it hardens so much that it is impossible to cut and saw it even with modern equipment.

Anyone who wishes to have a reliable and durable decorated wall must be willing to pay the appropriate price.

From laminated chipboard

Laminated particle board is used for the production of slats. The veneered versions are used with a wide variety of patterns and colors, repeating the surface of natural wood. Buffels made of chipboard are quite tough, keep their shape well. But they do not lend themselves well to milling and embossing, they will not be able to embody special design projects.

The material cannot be mounted with self-tapping screws; chips may result. The slats are attached to the walls using special glue.

It is undesirable to use chipboard in bathrooms, since such a structure will not last for a long time. But this material has the most loyal cost and is available to everyone.

Made of MDF

The cost of fiberboard (MDF) products is higher than chipboard, but lower than natural wood. Performance characteristics, respectively, of the material are at an average level. Veneered MDF can imitate any tree species, even the most exotic ones.

The slats are durable, do not deform in conditions of temperature fluctuations, and are embossed, which allows you to produce author's works.

The material is resistant to damage, it is easy to mount it on the wall, but it is better not to use such buffels in rooms with high humidity.

Other

Today the construction market is represented by a large amount of lath finishing material. Chipboard, MDF and classic wooden buffels are popular, but not the only products with which you can build a beautiful and unusual interior. We suggest paying attention to a number of materials.

  • Planken. Attractive hardwood planks that differ from conventional planks with rounded or chamfered ends on all sides.
  • Thermowood. Wood that has undergone chemical, thermal and mechanical treatment has received durable improved characteristics. Reiki made of this material is used to equip bathrooms, baths and even street buildings.
  • Metal slats. A similar slatted material is used in high-tech, minimalism, loft, techno, and industrial designs. The steel is coated with anti-corrosion compounds. You can buy lamellas covered with wood-like foil. Metal strips withstand temperature fluctuations, moisture and mechanical shock well, they are reliable and durable.
  • Plaster. For wall decoration, gypsum panels are used that imitate rack corrugation. They harmonize well with the rest of the room decoration, differing from them only in the surface structure.
  • Plastic. Used to decorate a bathroom, kitchen, bathroom. Plastic panels, produced in the form of lath embossing, improve the geometry of the room, make it austere and laconic.

Dimensions (edit)

The dimensions of the slats depend on the parameter of the wall, the footage of the room and the design concept. It is better to decorate a small fragment of the surface with small graceful buffels. On a large-scale area, you can use large, expressive details.

Usually, a completely wall for rack decor is given in spacious rooms. Any kind of materials will look good here - metal, gypsum, wood. For ordinary accent work, you can choose lamellas with a thickness of 20 mm and a width of 20-25-30-40 mm.

Wall decoration options in different rooms

Construction companies produce a wide variety of types of slats, from which you can make a delightful decor on the walls, using wood-like material, as well as white, black, metal strips. If you put patterns on the boards or decorate the wall with lighting, it will become doubly attractive. We suggest using examples to consider options for rack and pinion products in the interiors of rooms.

Living room

In large living rooms, buffel decoration is used as an accent wall, a zoning partition, or as an element that adjusts the size and shape of the room. By looking at the examples of slatted decors, you can see how they change the interior.

  • The living room design is completely composed of wood finishing materials - laminate, planken, wooden beams, slats. The direction of the stripes skillfully forms a volumetric and geometrically verified space.
  • A light partition unobtrusively separates the hall from the bedroom.

Bedroom

This room needs a natural, soft and warm material. The decor is composed of thin wood planks, calm and harmonious. The monotonous alternation of lines helps to relax and fall asleep. Consider what kind of bedrooms there are in the rack design.

  • Black planks lined up on the gray wall behind the TV set the tone for the entire interior, creating a modern, stylish space.
  • The sleeping place in the room is highlighted with two chocolate shades of buffels. Well-thought-out lighting artfully enhances the texture of the walls.

Kitchen, dining room

There should be enough space in the kitchen to sacrifice one wall for beauty. Using slats, you can get a light and expressive decor. Particularly convenient is the method of dividing the kitchen and dining room with a translucent linear partition.

  • For decorating the dining room, the slats are applied to the walls and ceiling. The buffels, spaced at different intervals, create a geometric pattern, adding effect to a custom design.
  • The diagonal arrangement of the slats made up an unusual panel on one of the walls of the kitchen.

Hallway

In the corridor, the presence of planks looks especially organic. You can nail hooks onto them, equipping an impromptu hanger, hang a mirror, changing the geometry of straight lines to a circle. Here are some photos as an example:

  • the dimensions of a small hallway are skillfully beaten with long slats and mirrors;
  • a wooden hanger made of planks is also a dividing wall.

Balcony

On the balcony, using slats, you can try to play with the space, expand or stretch it, depending on the configuration of the extension. The photo shows how the rack-and-pinion balcony is changing.

  • With the help of horizontal strips, an attempt was made to visually increase the width of the loggia. Decorated shelves, framed photos add volume to a flat wall.
  • The slatted wall and ceiling play an important role in the stylish interior of the open balcony. They are supported by graceful chairs with a thread design.

Mounting

To decorate a wall in one of the rooms with slats, it is enough to make a sketch and invite specialists to install the buffels. But if you have confidence in your own abilities, you can try to fix the planks with your own hands, without outside help.

To do this, first find out where the electrical wiring runs in the wall so as not to break it during installation. Then they buy materials, choose one of the fastening methods and get to work.

Through fastening

The first step is to align the walls perfectly. You can significantly simplify your actions if the installation of the slats is not carried out on the wall itself, but on a plywood base, which is screwed on with self-tapping screws, having previously coated the surface with parquet glue. Buffels are "planted" on the same glue, additionally securing them from the sides with hairpins. Installation of rails using a through fastening is quite simple and within the power of a novice master.

The negative aspects of this method include the need to drill the walls and the violation of the integrity of the rails. The self-tapping screw's cap goes deep into the material, and in order to hide it, plugs are selected by color.

The problem is that you may not find a suitable color, and over time, the plugs begin to fall out.

Concealed fasteners

Installation begins with the preparation of the wall - markings of all elements are applied to a flat surface. In the places where the rails will be attached, the embedded parts are screwed on. Buffels are planted on them, preliminarily greased with glue.

The hidden method of fastening is more painstaking and complicated, but thanks to it the wall looks perfect. During the installation, no tool skills are needed, and most importantly, the integrity of the rails is not violated.

The disadvantages include the dependence of the result on the quality of the glue, which can fail. In this way, large slats cannot be fastened; over time, they may fall off. Installation must take place on a flat surface that can guarantee reliable adhesion.

Examples in the interior

Amazing slatted structures completely transform a room for any purpose. This can be seen with examples.

  • The brown living room is dominated by graceful slats. In their environment, furniture and lamps actually dissolve.
  • Laconic rack corridor.
  • Partitions with vertical and horizontal slats.
  • The original wall in the living room.
  • The slatted design gives the impression of a "rolling" room.
  • An impressively lined plank wall.

The slats are diverse in color, texture, size and material, they can be arranged in different ways. If the design allows, boldly introduce them into the interior, giving free rein to imagination - the room will only benefit from this.
