Mercado radish has been known since 2005. It belongs to the authorship of the breeders S. V. Maksimov, N. N. Klimenko and A. F. Simanova. Gardeners appreciate this variety for its good yield, excellent taste and unpretentiousness to growing conditions.
Description of the variety
Mercado radish is intended for cultivation primarily in greenhouses, but can be successfully grown in open field conditions. It is resistant to prolonged cold snaps and short-term frosts. Possesses high varietal purity and excellent external commercial qualities. In the process of growth, it is resistant to lack of light and thickened planting. It has good immunity to many diseases typical for this culture.
Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and root crops
The Mercado variety is characterized by a semi-erect, spreading, leafy rosette of medium length. Leaves, obovate in shape, are yellowish-green in color. The petiole has an anthocyanin purple color. The axial root is usually very thin.
Root crops are round and round-flat in shape, reach 3.0-3.5 cm in diameter. The length of one tuber is about 4-5 cm, and the weight is 20-22 g. The radish of the Mercado variety has a deep red color. Root crops are smooth, aligned along the entire length.
Purpose and taste of tubers
The pulp is dense and juicy in consistency. It is characterized by a white color, sometimes with a pinkish tinge. The Mercado variety has excellent taste, the roots are distinguished by a weakly sharp taste with a low-spicy aftertaste. Radish is recommended for fresh consumption, most often added to salads, okroshka, soups. Root crops can be stored for a long time without becoming flabby, without losing their taste and presentation.
Maturation
This variety belongs to early maturing in terms of ripening. The period from germination to harvest is only 25-30 days. Root crops are characterized by amicable uniform ripening.
Yield
Mercado belongs to the varieties of radish with high yields, the average values of which are 3.0-4.2 kg / m2. This variety is recommended for industrial cultivation.
Growing and care
Even novice gardeners can successfully grow a Mercado radish. You just need to take into account some agrotechnical recommendations.
It is best to start spring sowing in greenhouses in late March - early April; in mid-April, seeds can be sown in the garden bed, covered with foil. They are sown in open ground around May 5-20, following the planting scheme 3x15 cm. It is recommended to choose a sunny place, despite the fact that the variety is resistant to a lack of light. The Mercado variety grows successfully in almost all regions of Russia - from the Central to the Far East. It can withstand short-term frosts down to -4 degrees.
Care in the growth process consists in timely watering, but it is worth considering that this variety does not react well to excess moisture in the soil. After watering, the soil must be loosened and weeds must be removed. Seedlings are thinned out as they grow, starting from a week after the appearance of the first shoots.
Soil requirements
The most suitable for Mercado radish will be loose, permeable soils, for example, loamy or sandy loam. On heavy soils, it forms a large number of arrows. The soil should be neutral or slightly acidic. Excessive acidification contributes to the development of root diseases such as keela.
When planting, it is not recommended to add fresh manure to the soil; this must be done in advance during the autumn digging of the site. For good nutrition and improve the structure of the soil during planting, ash can be added to the soil. Fertilizing with mineral fertilizers is not required for this variety.
