Any interior, complemented by paintings, is radically transformed. The canvases bring coziness to the house, make the design more diverse, and logically complete it. However, it is very important to choose the right painting so that it matches the style of the interior. In this article we will talk about interior decoration with Provence style paintings.

Peculiarities

Provence embodies tenderness and airiness. Interiors designed in this style breathe peace and quiet. This trend originated several centuries ago in France. This country is known for its ebullient energy, love for the noise of the holidays, entertainment, but the house there is valued above all else. And he should be calm and comfortable.

Provence can be called a rustic style. The region of the same name, which gave the destination its name, is a popular tourist destination. And there are reasons for this: tart and light wines, huge lavender fields, the sea coast. Here you can relax in body and soul, put your thoughts in order, tune in to a romantic mood. That's why Provence interiors include lilac, blue and pastel colors, plant motifs, images of rural nature.

Provencal-style paintings embody comfort and tranquility... Looking at them, you can imagine yourself somewhere in a field, on a vineyard or a flower meadow. All images are distinguished by the clarity of details, simplicity, and grace. The artist's task is to convey emotions, and not to create a work that meets all the canons.

The emphasis is on natural motives: sunlight, shades of wildlife, water and sky, fields and plants. Quite often, you can see elements of everyday life on such canvases.

Species overview

Provence style canvases can have a different look. Of course, the most popular are oil paintings. Such solutions are written with light, abrupt and voluminous strokes, and it is better to admire them from a distance.

Pictures on the boards look no less original: these are beautiful wooden panels that correspond to the style of Provence, which prefers naturalness in everything.

The image is applied to the boards by printing. Printing inks are absolutely harmless, resistant to sunlight. In addition, such paintings can be of different sizes: from very small to huge, several meters long.

French Provence found itself in modular chic canvases. These are several paintings at once with a common plot. They are hung together, leaving a small distance between each. Modular paintings are the same either in width or height.

Most often, a set contains from 3 to 7 paintings, but there are other options. As a rule, such canvases have no frame at all. And also it is worth noting the modular clock-paintings, where there is a clock on one of the paintings. However, such variations do not have to be modular, there are also the usual single solutions.

For those who are tired of paintings in the direct sense of the word, you can offer to acquire posters... They are very fond of young people, teenagers, as well as those who prefer modernity to old traditions. Posters printed on thick paper will decorate the room just as well... In addition, they will not fade like oil products. Another plus is the lower price when compared with canvases.

Describing the varieties of Provence-style canvases, it is impossible to pass by frescoes... These three-dimensional, vivid images can instantly change the interior.

The frescoes are produced ready-made and can be easily applied at home on their own. Wall murals can be considered their analogue.

Colors and plot

The color scheme in the style of Provence has a certain framework. These are such colors as:

  • White;
  • pastel and nude;
  • lilac and purple;
  • light yellow;
  • powdery pink;
  • light green;
  • blue.

As for the plots, they are quite diverse. In general, they depend on the room where the painting is to be placed.

  • In the kitchen, you should choose canvases that can induce appetite.... These can be images of ripe apples, pears, raspberries, French croissants, buns, grapes. Canvases with wine, tea and coffee sets are in great demand. Any Provencal style still lifes will be appropriate. Another option is rural animals and birds: hens, cows grazing in the meadow. All shades must be muted, unobtrusive.
  • Pictures in the living room can depict a seascape, animals, canvases with birds are popular. An interesting decision would be to buy a painting depicting a French city, for example, quite often you can find drawings of Paris in brown tones. Urban motives of quiet towns are also interesting: bicycles with baskets of flowers, winding streets, quiet cafes with attractive signs.
  • Pictures in the bedroom most often depict endless lavender fields.... Lavender is a "visiting card" of Provence, so canvases with it will always be a win-win option. Along with lavender, images of roses are often used, but not red, but muted beige, powdery. Pictures with roses will decorate the bedroom of a young girl, a married couple. In many cases, flowers are depicted in old vases, jugs cracked from time to time.

The following popular stories can be distinguished:

  • sunflowers;
  • images of everyday rural life and rooms;
  • butterflies;
  • muted and dim landscapes related to the seasons.

Selection Tips

Since Provence is a fairly recognizable style, it will be difficult to make a mistake when choosing a painting.

Nevertheless, there are some useful recommendations to be made.

  1. Pay attention to the size of the canvas. It is important that it fits the size of the room. If the ceilings are low, a vertical painting should be chosen.
  2. Make sure that the color scheme resonates with the interior. If there is a lot of lilac in the design of the room, pick up a canvas with pronounced purple images.
  3. The plot of the picture is selected depending on the room. For example, a picture with chickens and roosters will look rather strange in the bedroom, even if it is an exemplary picture in the Provence style.
  4. The shapes of the canvases can be different: circle, oval, square, rectangle. Each of them has its own characteristics, but experts advise purchasing at least one round or oval model. They are soft, have smooth lines, smooth out possible interior imperfections.
  5. Be sure to take care of the framing of the canvases. In Provence, white, artificially aged frames are welcome. Such solutions allow you to highlight the picture, will not allow it to remain invisible. Exceptions here will be modular canvases or clock-paintings.

Accommodation options

For a painting to truly transform the interior, it needs to be hung in the right place. This applies to absolutely all rooms of the dwelling.

On the kitchen

It is important to place Provence style paintings in areas that will be well lit, but will not be in direct sunlight. If the kitchen is located on the north side, you should pick up pictures with large elements. Another option for solving the problem may be backlight... The canvases should be positioned so that they can be clearly seen, for example, hung near the refrigerator, above the table. Clock-paintings are often hung over the kitchen door.

But the canvases should not be placed above the stove or next to the sink, as they can suffer from the destructive effects of moisture and heat.

In the living room

The canvases in the living room are recommended to be placed at eye level. This is usually the center of the wall, and most often the wall is behind the sofa. Pictures should not be placed low - the distance between the skirting board and the product must be at least 60 cm. If you absolutely want to hang the picture low, it is better to just place it on the floor. This is especially true for large paintings.

If there are several paintings, they can be effectively arranged in an asymmetrical way.... It looks like this: the largest canvases are in the central area of the wall, and smaller paintings surround them. Another interesting option is paintings on narrow horizontal shelves.

If the ceilings are too high, they can be visually lowered by hanging the canvases over the door.

In the bedroom

In this room, paintings are most often hung at the head of the bed... One large or several small models can be positioned. There is another solution: placing canvases in the dressing table area. Products of round and oval shapes, small in size, will look advantageous here. If there is no window on the wall opposite the bed, the picture can be hung there too.... But it should be remembered that the product must be well lit, only then will it be able to act as a bright accent that attracts attention.

In the hall

In the hallway, the picture can be placed opposite the front door or above the chest of drawers. It is important that the canvases are not large in size. Another option is opposite the mirror, but only one, otherwise the room will visually decrease. But on the sides of the mirror, you can already place two models at once. And pictures in the corridor are hung over the door: As with the living room, this solution allows the ceiling to be visually lowered.
