Two-level stretch ceiling in the interior of a children's room
Stretch ceilings today are one of the designs that allow you to give any room a special look. Due to the stylistic variety, they can be used in the decor of the interior of children's rooms. However, if a single-level structure may seem too simple to someone, the correct design of a two-level ceiling will radically change the aesthetic perception of space.
Design features and types of film
At its core, two-level stretch ceilings are nothing more than suspended structures consisting of stretch PVC film and drywall. They are fixed to the ceiling on a special metal frame. The stretch fabric heated with a heat gun is fixed to the drywall using reliable clamps. Moreover, the technology of such a ceiling can be both seamless and seam.
This is explained by the width of the material used. Budget film options are about 3 and 3.5 m wide, although recently, customers have been offered such options with a five-meter width, which was previously inherent only in expensive types of coatings. The texture of the stretch fabric can be glossy, matte and satin.
Of these, the least interesting is the glossy one, which, although it reflects light, is inferior to the other two. It reflects everything that is below, and this creates the visual effect of doubling the elements of the interior, which does not look very nice.
The matte film does not create glare, even if such a ceiling is illuminated not only along the perimeter, but also has built-in light sources. It also stretches and is just as unstable to mechanical damage. However, this is the best option for decorating a nursery. The satin finish looks expensive and somewhat resembles fabric. But taking such a canvas to the nursery is impractical: it is too expensive, although the quality of photo printing on it is much better.
As for drywall, this is the optimal material through which you can create a special design for the ceiling area. Its capabilities are enormous, because it bends well, is lightweight. With its help, it is possible to make constructions not only of a frame or linear, but even of a curly type. And if you consider that you can cut out various shapes from it and fix them on the ceiling, then this will significantly diversify any design of a two-level ceiling structure.
The advantage of this material is the fact that it can be painted repeatedly, which is convenient and allows you to periodically refresh the interior.
Varieties
The effect of a stretch two-level ceiling in a nursery can be different. For example, you can make it zoned or floating. Some options are easy to install, others will take some time to install. However, the effect is worth it: due to this, as well as the additional LED lighting, you can create the illusion of a figure floating in the air.
Traditional options are individual steps or, for example, boxes into which the tensioning web is inserted. The latter are called frame, since the effect of a frame is created in which the stretch film itself is located. This is a more traditional design that can be found in children's designs. Curly options are much more interesting, although it is somewhat more difficult and longer to attach the film to them.
However, due to the smoothness of the lines, you can save the children's room from rigor and bring a special mood into it. For example, this way you can separate some accent part of the room. For example, you can stretch the film over the main part of the room, separating the space of the working corner with a simple plasterboard figure. Soaring options are notable in that they can have different shapes. If desired, hidden lighting can be built into them, which will create a special effect.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of two-level ceilings are:
- durability - they serve for at least 10 years;
- lightness - they do not have a lot of weight, and therefore do not create a large load on the load-bearing walls;
- variety of designs - the client can choose any design;
- harmlessness - they do not harm the child's body and do not cause allergies;
- a wide palette of shades and a variety of photo printing - even a sophisticated customer will choose his own version, taking into account the characteristics of a particular room;
- resistance to temperature extremes and UV rays - the design does not fade in the sun;
- the ability to zone a space - a method of unobtrusive organization of a nursery;
- the ability to embed any lighting - enhancement of an unusual effect and full illumination of all corners of the room;
- a lot of technologies for decorating the film itself - from lamps and optical fibers to Swarovski crystals.
Despite the advantages, two-level stretch ceilings also have disadvantages:
- the film is afraid of punctures, and drywall is afraid of strong moisture;
- these structures conceal the height of the walls, and therefore are inappropriate;
- their design is often limited in a small space;
- not everyone has a heat gun to warm up the film;
- any discrepancy in the size of the film can ruin the whole work.
Nuances of colors and design
You can design a suspended two-level plasterboard stretch ceiling in a children's room in different ways. Usually it is white with photo printing or a drawing on a background of pastel-colored drywall. Colors can be different, although designers recommend using light shades for decorating the ceiling space. Dynamic ones are also possible, but as small accents, since a bright tone in itself can take all the attention from other accents of the room. In addition, the abundance of bright color over time begins to irritate the child.
In the design, you can use a solid color film. This is what allows you to change the interior in the future as the child grows up. When a photo print is applied to the canvas, it is possible that it will have to be changed before its service life ends. The point is that the images must be appropriate for the child's age.
It is unlikely that any teenager will be comfortable in a room, on the ceiling of which, for example, babies, teddy bears, characters of Disney cartoons will be depicted.
What is relevant and what is inappropriate?
If you are thinking of decorating a child's room with a two-level tension structure with photo printing, pay attention to the style of the room. If this is a classic, apart from the matte surface and gilding, nothing else is needed in the corners of the frame. A minimum of print is enough here. There are quite separate motives for modern trends.
The cloudy sky print looks great on the ceiling. Light tones of the picture allow you to bring a feeling of freshness and air into the space. They look beautiful in the design of two-level ceilings for a nursery and inserts depicting a starry sky, as well as cosmic nebulae.
You can decorate the ceiling of a teenage room using the image of the world map, supplementing it with built-in or hidden lighting around the perimeter.
However, no matter how beautiful the image may seem, you cannot decorate the design with photo printing with:
- huge flowers;
- huge birds;
- military planes diving in the air and even more so tanks;
- soccer balls, cars;
- giant transforming robots and comic book heroes;
- big angels and mythological characters.
Not only are such prints able to visually create something terrible even from ordinary space, but they will also disorient the child. Judge for yourself: for example, against the background of giant birds or huge flowers, a child will feel insignificant and helpless.
And if a military plane flies over it every day, it will develop anxiety on a subconscious level. Whatever parents choose, looking at the ceiling shouldn't be negative.
For kids, you can choose a cartoon drawing with the image of the sun and clouds. However, here it is worth sticking to the correct sizes. A teenager's room can be decorated with a stylized design. It can also be sketch sketches, although their theme should not carry negative into the room.
Prints are errors:
- windows - it seems that the room is located in a cave;
- with a three-dimensional image - they often reduce the space;
- portraits - this creates the effect of pressure.
What else to consider?
The interior of a child's room should be light. It is not at all necessary to complicate it with a drawing, if the style does not require it. Sometimes it is better to focus on the contrast of drywall and the used stretch fabric, rather than complement the film with photo printing. For example, for the styles of minimalism and modern, it is the texture of materials and their elegance with seeming simplicity that is more important.
The same can be said for teenage rooms. For example, when there is already a photo print on one wall (for example, graffiti or an image of a city), a frame design is enough for a two-level ceiling, into which creative lamps can be built. In such cases, manufacturability is more important than the theme of the picture on the film.
It is better to demonstrate uniqueness and modernity here due to texture and lighting.
Regarding the stretch film technology, it is worth choosing based on your capabilities, although, of course, the seamless technique is better. Floating designs are good for teenage rooms; they are not so necessary for decorating children of the younger age group. The complexity of the design will depend on the planned interior composition. When there are many details in it, the design of the ceiling should be simpler so as not to create a clutter effect.
