Dishwasher pumps
A key element of any dishwasher is the pump. During operation, problems may arise in the operation of the pump that can lead to the need to replace the device. It is worth taking a closer look at what pumps are used in dishwashers, how to diagnose a breakdown and make repairs.
Peculiarities
A dishwasher is a complex device in which all elements and systems are connected to each other. Each unit in the dishwasher is responsible for a different part of the dishwashing process.
The main element of the equipment is the pump, which is responsible for supplying and removing liquid from the chamber where the dishes are washed.
Any malfunction in the system negatively affects the operation of the pump and reduces the life of the unit.
Species overview
Dishwasher manufacturers produce models equipped with different types of pumps. All units that ensure the stable operation of the dishwasher can be divided into three main groups.
Circulating pumps
The principle of operation of such a device is quite simple. The pump continuously pumps water in the hydraulic system. The pressurized fluid subsequently flows to the impellers.
The advantages of such units:
- strong pressure;
- high-quality result;
- long service life.
Recently, manufacturers have begun to produce pumps with heating elements with improved characteristics.
The disadvantage of such devices is the need to search for original spare parts in the event of a unit breakdown.
Drain pumps
In this case, the waste liquid is pumped into the sewer. The disadvantage of such a device - short service life... Often the pump, which is part of the design of a small pumping station of a dishwasher, fails.
Another disadvantage of this group of pumps is the impossibility of draining the water in the event of equipment shutdown.
Recirculating pumps
The devices are responsible for pumping water into the system and then pumping liquid out of it. The advantage is the organization of a continuous supply of water to the chamber. The dishwashing liquid flows through the nozzles. The waste water is then transferred to the filter compartment where it is cleaned. A recirculating pump is a popular model.
Also, manufacturers produce drainage pumps.
This is a modern type of device that is not yet so popular on the market.
Additional elements
The dishwasher contains more than just pumps in its design. The equipment for washing dishes contains entire systems, the breakdown of which will lead to negative consequences in the form of stopping the operation of equipment. Particular attention should be paid to the following elements.
- Intake filters. Designed for cleaning the liquid entering the chamber. It is they who often fail. But they are easy to fix.
- Injectors... They also play an important role in the operation of the dishwasher pumping station and require a complete replacement in case of breakdown.
- Hoses... In them, water travels through the dishwasher. Deformation of the hose leads to leakage, which also negatively affects the operation of the equipment.
- water pump... The part is responsible for draining the waste water. The liquid is pumped out of the dishwasher hopper.
To extend the service life of equipment and its components, it is worth performing regular technical maintenance, repairing or replacing graphite bushings, impellers and other parts.
How to check?
During operation, the dishwasher may experience problems. First of all, it is recommended to check the condition of the pump and its components. For verification, you will need to prepare the necessary tools in order to immediately replace parts if necessary.
It will be possible to determine the cause of the breakdown on your own. Common signs of a problem:
- lack of circulation or drainage of water;
- clogged rocker nozzles;
- blockages in filters.
Also a common symptom of dishwasher disease is no water heating... In this case, it will be necessary to completely replace the pump, since repair of the elements heating the liquid is impossible.
It is noteworthy that most often the pump fails. This is explained by the formation of blockages. And if the filter can be cleaned in the event of a similar problem, then the pump will have to be changed.
How to replace?
Sometimes the pump cannot be repaired. Then it comes to replacing the device supplying water to the dishwasher. Replacement of failed equipment is carried out in several stages, the number and type of which depends on the type of equipment.
Replacing the circulation pump
It is not difficult to change the unit... However, the user will need to first familiarize himself with the design of the pumping equipment, study the features of the device. To disassemble the failed equipment, you will need:
- open the loading door of the dishwasher and remove unnecessary items from the tank;
- carefully dismantle the rocker arm by removing it from the attachment point;
- remove the strainer used for coarse cleaning of the liquid;
- dismantle the fasteners along with the side panels and plastic parts;
- remove the thermal insulation aside so that it is not damaged later;
- turn the car on its side;
- disconnect the inlet hose and dismantle the pallet, which contains the parts from the body;
- remove the wiring and put it aside;
- remove the door fasteners, remove the hoses for filling and draining the fluid;
- dismantle the pallet to keep the float intact.
After that, it remains to remove the circulation pump and you can install a new unit. When the device is in place, it will be necessary to reassemble the dishwasher in the reverse order.
Replacing the drain pump
To install new equipment, you will need to properly disassemble the machine. The sequence of actions is the same as in the case of replacing the circulation pump. When it comes to dismantling the drain unit, you need to squeeze the lock with a screwdriver and turn the pump cover clockwise.
Next, it remains to disconnect the wires and replace the device.
Additionally, when replacing the drain pump, you will need to install a new pump.
Possible malfunctions
When the pump fails, the performance of the dishwasher decreases. Possible malfunctions:
- leakage due to deformation of the wires;
- breakdown of the pump, leading to a lack of water supply;
- clogged nozzles or filters;
- deterioration in pump performance.
The latter becomes the reason for insufficient pressure in the water supply system. Many dishwasher owners turn to service centers asking why the pump does not turn on and off.
Any deviations in the operation of the dishwasher must be eliminated in a timely manner so that the equipment is constantly working. Otherwise, the device will quickly break down.
It is noteworthy that sometimes to fix the equipment, it is enough to forcibly turn off and turn on the pump.
