How to choose bedding?

Many are surprised by the large sizes of the bedding sections, because, at first glance, there are very few of them. In fact, each item has several types, which is why it is recommended to study the terms before buying the next set of underwear. In this article, we will talk about what belongs to sleep accessories, and help you choose the right one or another component.

In addition to standard sheets, duvets and matching pillows, there are many additional bed accessories.

• Bottom sheet. This product is a rectangular or square piece of fabric with a trimmed edge. It is applied to the mattress and tucked under it. It is advisable to pre-specify the size of the sheet and the existing mattress before buying, so that everything fits in size. Modern stores offer two types of bottom canvases: standard and stretch with an elastic band.
• Short bedspread. This piece of bedding is not as popular in Russia as it is in the west. It is a small bedspread that is placed in the middle or at the end of the bed. The short canvas does not cover the pillows, and serves more for decorative purposes. Most often it can be found in hotels, where the aesthetic appearance of the beds is especially carefully monitored, and where the use of a short bedspread is profitable from a financial point of view, because it costs less than usual.
• Long bedspread. The main difference between this product and the previous one is its larger size. It completely covers the sleeping area and hangs down on the sides. Typically, a long blanket is made of wool, cotton, or polyester.

• Blanket without filler. Such a bedding item is a thin sheet without filler. It is also called a summer blanket, as it is lightweight, and in the summer heat it maintains an optimal body temperature at night. Blankets without filler are often found in kindergartens as well. The following fabrics are used for their production: microfiber, wool, polyester or cotton.
• Covering blanket. This bedding is used as a finishing step when cleaning the bed. It is placed on top of the bed linen, and comes with a small amount of filler inside. The cover blanket is officially the top-selling bedding piece in the US and Europe. That is why manufacturers are trying to diversify the assortment as much as possible, because the general stylistic direction of the room also depends on the blanket.
• Blanket. Down filled duvets are a winter and warmer option. They should be placed in the duvet cover. Down duvets are not particularly pleasing with the variety of their appearance, in principle, this is not necessary, because its main task is to warm in cold weather, and linen is responsible for aesthetics.
• Duvet cover. The product is designed to protect the downy blanket, and is a kind of envelope with a small hole to insert the blanket inside. It is usually included with bedding sets, but can also be found sold separately. Duvet covers are divided into several types: with a zipper, buttons, ties, rivets, with a wrap and a hole in the top or in the middle.

• Large decorative pillow. The European square or rectangular pillow is large and is used for decorative purposes.It is inserted inside a beautiful pillowcase with lace or satin edges, embroidery or quilted center, and placed at the head of the bed. The dimensions of this item are 60x60 or 50x70 centimeters. Despite its size, such a pillow cannot be used for sleeping, it is needed only for aesthetics.
• Sleeping pillow. Can be square or rectangular. There are four sizes of pillows for sleeping: large (70x70 or 50x80), medium (50x70) and small (40x60). In Russia, square pillows are the most popular, however, recently, the fashion for rectangular elements that came from Europe has become more and more widespread.
• Small throw pillow. It is used to give the overall appearance of the bed an aesthetic appearance. It is a small pillow of 40x40 or 45x65 centimeters, and is sold in a variety of shapes, colors and stylistic directions. As a rule, a small decorative pillow is decorated with ruffles, lace, embroidery, rhinestones.

• Roller pillow. A pillow in the form of a large pipe is stiffer than a regular pillow, since it is not used for sleeping. It is designed to support your back while watching a movie or reading on the bed, as well as for tired legs. Some phlebologists strongly recommend a similar item to women who spend all day in heels.
• Pillowcase. A pillowcase performs a function similar to a duvet cover, and serves to cover the pillow. It can be square or rectangular. Pillowcases come with a zipper or wrap-around attachment.
• Pillow with pillowcase. The bedding is intended for decorative purposes. The pillowcase is firmly sewn to the pillow itself, and does not come off from it. As a rule, these pillows are small and are located at the head of the bed.

When buying a bedding set, it is recommended to pay attention to some details. For example, when choosing a pillow, you should decide on a comfortable shape and size. Square pillows will perfectly complement a large bed, rectangular pillows are more suitable for a small one.

Accessories also vary in fillers. This is goose, duck or swan down, each of which has its own level of softness. The goose is considered the most expensive and convenient.

Blankets are also matched to the size of the bed. It is better for married couples to take a size of 200x200 cm or two blankets of 100x100, if everyone prefers to have their own. The filler is also important, it can be fluff or synthetic winterizer. Down will warm up better on a cold night, but such a blanket will cost more.

When choosing a mattress, you need to decide on the type: spring or springless. The first is more practical and democratic in price. The second has a filler, on the type of which the price depends, as well as convenience during sleep.
